Towards the beginning of the game (I'm about 6% in right now) you get the ability to call your cousin to send you a cab, if you are having trouble getting a taxi to show up.
I just did the Little Jacob mission where you end up in the island north of the starting island, and decided to use Roman's cab. It took all of 2 seconds for the cab to get there, plus it was free (at least I'm pretty sure it was). So that would be incredibly useful in a run.
Also, I got the achievement for watching the whole trip, since I went from one island to the other I really should use that one free month eventually to try out the online.
i think in order to use romans cab service you HAVE to "date" him a few times, meaning lost time
the sixaxis tutorial is acessible during gameplay, it warps you to the airport and theres a couple of taxis, might be an option incase you are ending a mission in the middle of nowhere?

His like meter must be above 90% (just do missions, but I think it starts at 94) and respect must be at 100% (your his cousin, of course it starts that high!). It's just a matter of waiting for him to call you to tell you that you can use it.
Does anyone have and turning tips for driving. Everytime I try to do a turn I either hold down handbrake for too long or reverse only. I may also spin my back end out too far almost reversing. Or does anyone know of any cars that have good handling.
I don't know why I have so much problem with this game when I take turns like a pro in San Andreas.
with some cars and the right speed you can just let off the gas and turn
lets say theres a 90° left turn ahead of me, i usually shift my wheight a bit to the right and then to the left in combination with handbrake
im driving in the hood camera, i never used to in any gta but this time i find it much easier. its gives me a better feel for weight, i can see things in front of me much better, it allows me to drive more accurate, aiming when doing drive bys is easier etc.
This is a great game, but sometimes in some areas the textures are pretty blurry, almost like n64 textures. Mostly the textures are really good. Another problem is that there are no children in this game, which makes it look a bit unrealistic. The cars get damaged very realistically, but humans don't lose any body parts even from explosions even though humans should be more fragile than cars. And it doesn't go 60 fps.
Many improvements from the previous games though, not just graphics, but interactivity with the environment.
The shadows move with the sun, but the shadows look... not that good.
I still like San Andreas more. Love the strip club and that you fly out of the windows, thats awesome. I looked when my brother played yesterday It looked fun when he played.
Ok, for anyone who would speedrun this. A little trick for the mission Bleed out.
Drive a car into the basketball area and run over the 2 guys you need to kill. You can break down the gates around the basketball court with your car. You just need to jump in the car when the cutscene pops up. Also after you chase the guy up into the building, run to the right of him so he is in between you and the windows. If you can punch him out the window it should kill him.
Also take a lot of taxis to your mission starters and destinations. If you do this a lot of time can be saved.
If/When this game comes to PC I will Definably speedrun it. I have it on 360 but I don't have a way to record. So I will be practicing the game till them.
I finished this game early yesterday. I wanted to get to 100% completion within the first week but I stopped at 91.25% after learning that I had to kill 200 frigging pigeons in order to gain another 2.5% (other things I still needed to do were a few random character missions and the trick jumps..if those count towards completion %; I know the random character do but I'm not sure on the jumps). Anyways going around the entire game hunting 200 secret pigeons is boring as hell. I started doing it but about 30 pigeons in I decided that it wasn't any fun and I'm not going to spend several hours on a game doing something that isn't enjoyable...fuck that 100% achievement.:-p
Thing Ive noticed is you can survive jumps from really high places as long as you hit stuff on the way down. Kind of like when you fall into a curved surface. I just aim for pipes or air cons as I fall.
Just finished this game tonight. It was truely an awesome experience. Make one hell of a good run like the others in the series. I can't do capture 360 runs but I (and Im guessing many others) am very willing to help with whoever runs this. Found a 2 minute shortcut in the last mission.
it's a pain in the arse you get a 1 star wanted level everytime you shoot a pigeon, i reckon i'll use the helicopter when i'm finished with the main story.
to be honest i think they could have done a hell of a lot more with this game.
The driving will be down to player skill. Once at Old Casino skip cutscene and instead of shooting the men come out from behind car and run to the right. Go onto the roof and up the ladder. There is a whole in this roof which will allow you to kill all the men inside (thought it was quicker for me to just jump in and run to the were the next cutscence starts.) When chasing Jimmy stay on the roofs just leg it shooting people in your way and dive off the carosel at the end.
I don't know 100% if this is faster than the normal route as I havent timed them against each other, but Im pretty certain it would be.
So i just beat the game for the second time skipping cutscenes and going for speed to get the Liberty CIty Minute achievement and finished the game in 10:27:17 so it can easily be done in under 10, and with proper route planning and time saving tricks it can probably get down to 8 hours.
