First, I'd like to say hello to SDA. I am new to this site, but not new to Speed Running. I have been a full active speed runner since January 1997.

As I was saying, this Grand Theft Auto San Andreas speed run is by far the longest, hardest, and most exausting speed run I have ever attempted. I would like to ask a few questions regarding this, because all of my past attempts have averaged over 30 segments and over 2 hours in length.

1. My estimate is that this will be 45 segments at the minium. Is this too many?

2. The Length of the game obviously causes the speed run to be much longer than other runs. Is there any time length I need to follow?

3. Is using glitches such as early weapons or dating barbara as soon as the game starts allowed?

I appreciate all answers for this topic!

1. No; the Halo 2 run is over 100 segments.

2 and 3 I can't answer because I've never played the GTA series so I'll leave that to another to answer.

When the FFX run was posted recently, it was clarified that there is no time limit for runs. As long as it's optimized enough, it should be able to be posted.

Some, arguably yes, though dating Barbara as soon as the game starts is a waste of time. Even if you plan to abuse the everloving shit out of death or busting, it still wouldn't be worth it to date Katie or Barbara, much less at the start of the game. Others, like those perks carrying over if you start a new game that have them, are likely not allowed.
Waiting hurts my soul...
There's still a time limit as long as it's still stated in the FAQ, but it's not set in stone, or anywhere really.  The only concrete thing that's been said about the time limit is that a game like Xenogears is too long, but that's mostly due to unskippable cutscenes and I don't think anyone's attempted to speedrun that game to find out what that limit is.  Also, 16 hours for Oblivion 100% was too long, so I'd suggest keeping it as close to 10 as possible since that's the current high.

I believe, tentatively, that it was 7 hours but it only applied to any %'s.  100's don't have a limit afaik.

Sure, you should do San andreas 100% but not do 3 (dating barbara early and so on) since it's unneccesary to get them. for 100% you dont need girlfriends to 100% and so on.

Here is what you need for 100% http://www.gta-sanandreas.com/guides/100percent/index.php

If you're going to use multiple segments, you should use as many as possible. Whatever's fastest.
Actually, for an over-2-hours run 45 segments isn't that much. And yes, glitches are allowed, as long as they are available from the first time you start the game (so nothing that carries over from an earlier game).

I don't recall ever saying this.

I believe Radix did.

Well even if he really said it (which I very much doubt), it's still wrong.
The Anomaly
Hmm, but is there any chance a 100% run of GTA: San Andreas would ever be accepted? Doing what the game counts as 100% would probably take around 15 hours minimum, which would be extremely long for a speedrun. On the other hand, it would be pretty much non-stop action with very little idle time and it would probably be very entertaining to watch and should thereby gain a large audience. Not to mention GTA games are very popular in general.

In the end I think it would be a bad idea to reject a well made 100% SA run.

Me or Mike didn't say anything about rejecting anything, just that "100% runs don't have a time limit" is wronger than wrong (just use some common sense). Wink

Well, I guess then that some one should do a run and submit it and see what happens.
