hey all

i know this is a speedrun forum..

but i'm totally new to quake 1, i've just bought the quake collection on steam

i just want to ask: can you tell me a good quake port, which mouse view, weapon binding,  better graphics, stuff like that,
that makes playing quake more comfortable for me? Smiley

widescreen support (1920x1080) would be great, if that is possible!

hope you can help me, and thx in advance Smiley

I'd recommend JoeQuake: http://joequake.runecentral.com/downloads.html

Also, check out the getting started guide on this site: http://speeddemosarchive.com/quake/gettingstarted/
thx mate, i'll give it a try Smiley

steam offers GLquake, but unfortunately, it won't start Sad

If it's whining about glidex.dll not being there or whatever then that's normal behaviour.

Just use Joequake anyway. It comes in software and GL varieties too.
where do i have to put the wad folder? Smiley i don't find any readme files Sad
Mumma
I would reply if I knew the answer. There is no wad folder as far as I know.

You basically need c:\joequake and in there you put the exe. You need c:\joequake\ID1 and that's where you put the pak0.pak and pak1.pak files. If you have replacement textures, I guess they can go in a directory such as c:\joequake\ID1\textures

Never tried those but it seems to work to extract it in the joequake\id1\textures directory (so that you get a wad directory, joequake\id1\textures\wad with all the files in it)
