I'm looking into finding some good LAN games to play with a few people around me. I have a few ideas, but I'm looking to gather more. Since I'm sure some of you are less isolated than myself, I'd like to get some ideas. Internet games are fine, but I'd rather stick with offline games for this list. If you do include online games, no subscription based stuff (no WoW, for instance).

PC Specs: Pretty much anything. All of us have fairly beefy PCs. The weakest is just barely out of Skyrim territory, to give an idea on scope. Should be able to handle more than 2 people.

Genres: Racing, RPGs (Western or JRPG is fine, not really into strategy games), Shooters, hack-n-slash, board games

Cost: Looking for fairly inexpensive to free. $20/copy is fine. $50/copy is not (unless *coughcough* ). Age of games don't matter much as long as they're fun.

Games List (Includes games I'm aware of)

RPGs
Dungeon Defenders
Dungeon Siege (series)
Magicka
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2

Shooter
Beat Hazard
Portal 2
Unreal Tournament (Series)

Hack-n-Slash
Castle Crashers

Platformer
Trine 2 (though only 2 player from my understanding)

I remember playing the older Call Of Duty games like Call Of Duty 2 back when I was playing games at LAN events, I was never really good but I remember it being pretty fun anyway.

Age of Empires 2, you can get the HD edition on steam for less then 20 bucks, best multiplayer game ever.

And if you like neverwinter nights, try Baldur's gate 2 co-op!

An awesome LAN game is Celestial Impact. A first person shooter with Quake 3 feeling, but you're on an asteroid with spherical gravity and the terrain is fully deformable. Total chaos usually ensues when each player builds or removes dirt from the landscape while playing and that constantly changes the map of the game.
Can be played both online and in LAN mode and the game is completely free.

Also Trackmania Nations and Worms Armageddon for sure
My feelings on The Demon Rush
If you like Diablo-style hack and slash then Torchlight 2 is a good choice. The game is 20 dollars on steam, and you can get a group pack for 60 dollars, which makes it 15 dollars per person.

Shooters:
Serious Sam The First/Second Encounter
Rainbow Six: Raven Shield
Unreal Tournament 2004
Left 4 Dead 2
Sven Co-op (Half-Life mod)

Other:
Trackmania (racing)
DEFCON (RTS)
Mount&Blade Warband mod Deluge (tricky to get to work I guess, RPG)
Artemis (Space sim where a group of people control different parts of a single ship, pretty unique)
Mechwarrior 4 (mech)

All have been popular at LAN parties I've been to except for DEFCON as it's hard to find players for it.

EDIT:
Aliens vs. Predator 2. One predator versus marines.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I'll echo Worms and add Star Wars Battlefront II.

I know you said you're not really into strategy, but Moonbase Commander is a bit different than most, easy to get into, and each play is short:
Hockey enthusiast
Soldat - Freeware - Like Worms meets Liero Worm. A real time shooter from a sideways perspective with jetpacks!

Heroes of Might and Magic 2/3 - Always fun to play hotseat. Games are available cheap from GoG.

Heroes of Newearth / Dota always works if you have played them before. Otherwise it's actually pretty fun to learn it all from scratch with only friends.

Sad to inform that AoE2HD won't have LAN support. Only online multiplayer.

I can recommend GTA2 multiplayer. INSTANT GANG!

FPS Killing Floor, up to 6 players

FPS Doom II / Duke Nukem 3D, etc
FPS CS 1.6
RPG Dungeon Siege, Diablo 1/2
Racing Blur, assuming you can get copies
Board game www.boardgame-online.com

Pretty much any Blizzard RTS Warcraft II and onward makes for an excellent LAN game, especially with the abundance of custom material that can at times span multiple genres.

My wife picked up a copy of Torchlight II for me, since it was 50% off on Steam. Since she and some of the others I'd play with already have it, might as well join the party. Played it for a bit today, awesome fun fast-paced game. Totally right up my alley.

For those that don't have it, it's 50% off until the 8th on Steam.

Honestly I had the most fun on LAN back when it was packed with people playing CS or Battlefield 1942 everything else was just not as epic of a LAN experience and laughs
HELLO!
I'm amazed Doom 2 Deathmatching isn't listed in this thread more. Fast paced and so much fun.
I've always felt Quake 3 was an awesome shooter to play at LANs.
Not surprised that Freelancer wasn't mentioned. I always enjoyed playing that at a 4-man LAN party I was a part of regularly back in the day.
