After watching some runs on youtube from SDA and some of the marathon, I thought I would like giving running a try. What are some good games to start running with? I mean the least difficult or least time consuming (without breaks).

I've been thinking that the older Pokemon games (Blue, Red) would be easiest to do because there isn't much tricky movements you just walk around and battle Pokemon as fast as possible.  But I don't think that would be really that fun, other than being able to say "I beat Pokemon in an hour (or so)."

So if you guys have some suggestions, please do share!

PS: I decided to start running after watching Miles run Metroid Prime in 1:20 on YouTube, if that means anything to a good game suggestion.

Before you can become a speedrunner, you must go through the following steps:

Step 1) Look in the library of games you own or intend to own.
Step 2) Pick game(s) you enjoyed a ton, enough to want to play again, or that you think you will enjoy.
Step 3) Play selected game(s) again, see if you still enjoy enough to keep playing.
Step 4) Play selected game(s) repeatedly, improving your time and continuing to enjoy.
Step 5) Keep playing selected game(s) repeatedly, improving your time and continuing to enjoy.
Step 6) By the way, you have already been a speedrunner for the past two steps. Congrats!
Step 7) If at any point you stop enjoying game(s), discontinue use immediately.

(edit) btw, welcome to the community! Enjoy your stay~
Well I do love Metroid Prime, might as well learn all the tricks and such in that game and run it myself.  Thanks

There is a considerable community for metroid prime, so i recommend going to http://m2k2.taigaforum.com/ and asking around if you need help with stuff.
How about a SpeedRun of Top Gear 2 for the SNES
station
Pick a game where you and the game are like THISSS (im crossing my fingers right now). It doesn't have to be one that you know in and out, start to finish, hell it doesn't even have to be a game you ever played. Try the stuff you love and test new stuff out. You'll find something.

If you really want actual game suggestions, I would suggest that you look at the list of featured games in the upcoming SRL season (when they get announced). They will probably be good games, get a lot of attention and it will be easy to find races.
Learning to Stream
Everyone has provided excellent points, so all I have to add are these;

1. Remember.. you may be one of the only people willing to speedrun something. Do NOT be discouraged by this!
2. If you can, stream. Even if only a few people watch, the viewers will grow.. and who knows, YOU may encourage someone and a Community of 1 may become larger. Smiley
3. Embrace the Reset button
4. Embrace failure. It is from 999 failures that the TRUE run can emerge like the Phoenix from those ashes.

If that was the case, though, why would any of us be here, lol? Seriously, though, these are all good suggestions that have been made. However, I would also throw Super Mario 64 in there as well. It's also a good place to start, in my opinion.

I think the key would be to speedrun a game that you would actually enjoy speedunning, not something that seems easy. If this means finding a route and a bunch of tricks for a game that no one has picked up yet, go for it.
Best of luck. Smiley
Deus Ex 3 is a great place to start imo (biased: that was my first SS run)  you can run it really fast and its still fun

If not DE3 then try replicating your fav speedrun - you may take 3x as long .. and you may learn a rhythm and/or pattern, but actually its more about gaining the right perspective (rather than gaining a skill per sai).
Making dem plays
I just started speed running too and I am starting with Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
It is a nice short speed run
not too hard to learn what to do
and for me ( and probably the best reason to run a game) I enjoy it quite a bit to play.

PS: I watched plenty of runs from early Pokemon games and they don't seem boring at all. There are plenty of tricks to learn and once you do, you then can appreciate the run even more (and that goes for any game).
