As long as there's an easy way to convert for the purposes of playing on a DVD drive that supports DivX, that's about the only reason to keep using it. MP4 is supported by a ton of things - even the Wii has (homebrew) players that support MP4 quite nicely.
All I'm going to say about this since I don't consider myself informed enough on technical issues is thank you for suggesting that I download VLC since divx didn't work for me. Some videos didn't have any sound and one wouldn't play at all, but VLC played them fine. I don't see any reason to keep it, but have no immediate reason to delete it.
I'm sure I missed something, and I hate not contributing to the discussion and wasting people's time with useless posts, so I hope my story is at least another reason not to use divx.
The same standard? I thought the AVIs and MP4s contained ASP MPEG resp. AVC MPEG/H.264? Anyway, I don't mind. Maybe some people who convert videos for their iPod/NDS/PSP/whatever still have problems with MPEG.

yeah that was a little unclear, by 'standard' i just meant the sda standards, mq/lq/hq/iq/xq.
guess divx is really as dead as i thought it was. thanks guys!
Yes, but my personal opinion (which matters 0% thankfully) is that X stands for X-Zone stands for mu stands for shouldn't exist. Like I said, please ignore me, this is one person's unimportant opinion.
I know but I edit for 2 reasons. I don't have the 11+ Minute upload perk (some segments of my run were over 11 minutes long), also the SDA published run of my SM64DS run only had the file select on the (HQ) dual screen video. I thought it would be less hassle for the viewers (without getting too confused) by doing a bit more editing to include the full file select screen and the full gameplay screen afterwards.
All of my DS videos (after May 08 minus Zelda titles) were filmed sideways like my filming tips video which makes it easier to get both screens in. Lastly I can't make screen edits from MP4 containers only AVI/WMV containers.
I know it's all weird but I make it things easier for the viewers.

Most of that makes sense to me. But as for the time limit, have you tried switching to a director account? I can post longer then 10 minutes, probably because of that.

That only applies if you signed up for a director account before they changed the system a few years ago. Now, switching to Director does nothing.
I set my account to directors in September 2007 (7 months after signing up to Youtube). I was too late :(.
Apparently there's other ways to get the 11+ minute perk (I saw some Youtubers who sign in 2008 with the 11 minute perk) but I think it's more restricted to Partnership or more original/homemade videos minus the copyright issues. I don't really know to be honest.
Google Video is the alternate method (no time/size limit) but who really uses that site?
I didn't understand this thread the same way as you at first. I had to get Nate to explain to me the difference.
We don't make divx encodes anymore. But if other people make divx encodes, we post them. Nate wants not to post any more divx encodes, even if someone wasted time making them. Old divx encodes will not be deleted. (This is what I incorrectly assumed this thread must mean, because since so few people make divx encodes anymore, I thought this wouldn't be a topic worth making a thread about otherwise. ;D)
it was basically just a timebomb since someone submitted divx after a long time of not. so wanted to see if anyone was like zomg i live in elbonia and the government doesn't allow h.264 inside the country or something. i dunno lol. ;(
