I'm not sure if this supposed to be in Tech Support, but I was wondering if there is a way to turn off signatures so I don't have to look at them.  A few of them are kind of... distracting.
Thread title:
welcome to the machine
I find it amusing how some people have links scrolling as marquees in their signatures when you can't click on them when they're in marquees.  >_<
No the Quail is not riding the Q
I'm the only one as of now who has ever done that. lol
It was working before...
http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=sda_site;action=display;num=1128553749;start=0#2
Thats not working either so...we will just have to wait.

Edit: d'oh it was just my pop up blocker..

I don't know any setting to disable sigs, but you can disable specific things with Firefox (or any other good browser). The banana was first to go... it was only cool the first thousand times or so, and I've seen it about that many times before I came here. I think it's about time to disable marquee, too.
There's no way to disable signatures in YaBB.
XXY
I suppose people will have to look at my sig forever...
trust the fungus
i dislike signatures that take up half the page. people write five words and then have a 15 line signature announcing who they are.. ugh.
welcome to the machine
Don't we all?

It's like 'zomg, if I have a signature bigger than a page, i win a prize!'

Everybody who doesn't do that stays away from websites with people that do. >_<

good news is: there is a way to hide the signatures by using a custom css style sheet. css is truly almighty.

Mozilla/Firefox:
locate the "chrome" directory inside your mozilla or firefox profile, usually something like C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\(Firefox)\Profiles\default\(someweirdname)\chrome\
Inside that directory, you have to create or edit a file called userContent.css (use Notepad).

Opera:
I know Opera supports custom style sheets, but can't tell you where to put them. Read the manual.

Internet Exploder:
IE sucks again and doesn't support such noble features - but if you use IE then you're lame and deserve to watch signatures anyway.

Your custom style sheet:
Once you've located or crated your custom style sheet, put this inside:
Code:
td[class="windowbg2"][bgcolor="#f8f8f8"][valign="bottom"] > font[size="1"] > hr[width="100%"][size="1"][class="hr"] + font[size="1"] {
  display: none !important;
}

td[class="windowbg"][bgcolor="#AFC6DB"][valign="bottom"] > font[size="1"] > hr[width="100%"][size="1"][class="hr"] + font[size="1"] {
  display: none !important;
}

result: signatures will still be downloaded, but not displayed. horray!

please be aware that this might also hide parts of other pages that use a similar layout and the same colors. It's unlikely though.

Does that work just for this site?  I don't understand much of that code at all, but if the bgcolor is an integral part of the code, then...

as I said:

The background color is only one of several checks that are performed before hiding anything. ALL of these checks have to match.
if you find another yabb with the same background colors, the signatures of that yabb will be hidden as well, but that's about all that can happen. It's very unlikely that any other non-yabb site contains the same layout parts that trigger the hiding. So far I didn't find any.

That was what I was asking.  Thanks.

Yes, because being an elitist asshole is what using a browser is all about.  Angry

People like you are why I stayed with IE for so long.

I don't know much about these things, so what would make one web browser (right term I hope) better than another?  (Basically... what is wrong with IE?)

IE lacks tabbed browsing, something the PSP browser beat it to; which is pathetic. IE has far more security loops and holes in it compared to Firefox. That auto-loading .ASD or whatever picture spyware automatically affects IE and immediately your entire computer, Firefox manages to ask you whether or not to open it. IE is alot easier to get 400 unwanted toolbars on (Google, Yahoo, 123WebSearch, etc.) compared to Firefox ...

That list goes on for pages, he's not exagerating Yoshi, Firefox is, in just about every way, superior to Internet Explorer.

marsh: Sush. ;p Seriously though, they did me a great diservice, by giving me the impression that there was nothing to Firefox but hype and "OMG BLINDLY HATING EVERYTHING MICROSOFT IS KEWL!!!11111". So I didn't even try it for a looooong time.

tri hex: By elitist asshole I meant the palpable additute, shown in that post, that some people have that if you use IE, you, personally, are a retarted moron. I've seen people basically saying that IE users should go to hell (and not sarcastically, either). These people need to grow the fuck up.  These people didn't choose a browser, they followed the cool kids because they want to rebel just like everyone else.
No the Quail is not riding the Q
Well I think a majority of the active users here are usually just joking and know better. We flame each other but never really take it personal. Tongue
Hell, I'm using internet explorer.

If it didn't say so under the big blue e on my desktop, I probably wouldn't even know this is Internet Explorer.  Roll Eyes

Right now I have five websites in tabs at the top of my browser -- one browser window, five sites. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread but it's really convenient. After awhile when you try to go use something that doesn't have it you're lost for a little bit.
Like A Fox
So it's like the "Favorites" drop down menu except more convenient because you don't have to make it drop down?
Jack of all Trades
No, it's more like moving the browser windows out of the system tray and into one browser. I'd take a picture and post it but I'm too lazy. Just go download mozilla or something, it's free and easy.

not our fault if you let the common opinion decide for you :p

I didn't call anyone a retarded moron. Are you attacking me for something other people said to you?

It's just that most people using IE are either too lazy or too close-minded to try something different, and probably too ignorant to inform themselves about security issues. IMHO not an attitude that should be rewarded, not even with signature-less forums.

I'm not one that hypes Firefox (hate it actually), but I don't mind if you use Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Konqueror, Safari, telnet to port 80 or even IE with deactivated active scripting. Just make a conscious and informed decision about it, and don't just pick the next best thing because M$ bundled it with their OS.

None of these browsers are perfect, but each of them outclasses IE in terms of features and security by far. I haven't seen anyone saying "I have tested all the other browsers, but I really prefer IE" yet, most of them are the "I use IE because I can't be arsed looking for something better"-types.
