Hello, i'm new to the speedrun community, and the first game i've chosen is this one.

It is fast paced, the musics are keeping me up playing, there are a lot of scripted moments and many RNG moments (ennemy behavior)
Has anyone tried to run it in any category ?

As far as i can tell, there is Any% and 100%. The only differences is that in 100% you hit switches that heal you up.

For now, here is my lastest attempt at Any% : 34:44 (in game timer)
Low quality record incoming, sorry in advance.

I did some progress and went to 32:50, but there's still blatant mistakes.
Sum of my best segment is 30:04. My runs are starting to get refined (W1-2-3 at least, the others are still erratic)

My ultimate goal is to go as near as possible to 30'

I've pinned down the 2 consecutive levels that gives me the most trouble in all my runs...

W5 - L3 : The road full of ennemies and slopes was meant for Kirby to wheel all the way through.
Too bad for Meta Knight, there are a lot of 'fire' mobs who can either shoot from the right as they spawn, spray as MK gets closer, or shoot from the left before they despawn. Their behavior is random.
Also, there are these poppy bros' on apples who block the way, the best way to go through is hitting the apple as closely as possible, and the poppy won't hurt MK for a short while.

And the last part is the worse : a vertical hall of spikes. Meant for kirby to carefully float (or casually use the parasol for once :D)
The fastest way is probably to get hit twice in order to damage boost and go through by using the invincibility frames, but i've not found the best trajectory yet.

W5 - L4 : A narrow spiked path, a MK minions fight, and various ennemies with random behavior. Good thing there is a M-Tomato at the 'end' of the level.

It's great to see improvements as the attempts go on.
W1,W2 and W3 are pretty fluid. but W5 still puts me in big trouble. (damned spikes)

Sum of best segment is close to 30'30", and PB is slightly under 33'33".

Last attempt ALMOST broke that PB, but i choked at the end on the last level, and cried for 1 minute on the last split.

Anyway, the run was super fun and challenging, especially after getting that last green split.

Hey anton, yeah this game is a pretty good speedgame.  I recommend you put your time up on speedrun.com's leaderboard here: http://www.speedrun.com/knidl#Meta_Knightmare_Any

I did a few run of this for the sake of it and it's good fun.  Coming from Meta Knightmare Ultra, the other game in the Meta Knightmare series, the dynamic is completely different and very challenging.  Funny how this game has short hopping and super star doesn't.  100% I would consider much easier than this because of the health refills from switches.  I have a lot of practice to go in order to get to a decent time.  Maybe I'll keep working on it, maybe I won't.  Also you're welcome to join the kirby skype community for tips and pointers if you wish.
Edit 2:
Also here's my bad run Tongue

Edit 3: Theres some tech that saves frames that should be known.

If you swing just before you fall into water your downward momentum is faster falling through it.  Saves a second here and there
You can hold down+b to extend your down strike duration.  You can canceling it by pressing b twice or upb.
Sliding is good lol
As you know, slashing in the air is faster than a running jump through it.

Thank you for your response, i'll go to post that run, even though my PB is a whole minute faster.

I discovered the "swing while entering water" while doing more runs, quite useful at most 3 places.
cancelling the down B is possible after a certain distance, and sometimes it has to be frame perfect. But hey, no pain no gain.
Sliding is good at very short range, else sprinting is better if there is nothing to hit

I see you hit too much ennemies, avoiding them is faster (and you don't have to input a sprint again)

The things that bother me the most are :
-the 2-frames input lag after hitting something (block, ennemy)
-that 2nd tornado in W4-1 who decides to instant spin.
-ANY fire dude who decides to fire offscreen
-ANY 'fast' waddle doo, either they rush, jump, or laser, I say aarghh.
-UFOs in W6-6
-Losing 2 health in the W4-5 spike + invincible ennemy (it's a glitch, if you touch both in the same frame, it counts for 2 health)

I tried 100% once, and hit 37 minutes (because I missed a switch here and there), I still prefer the any%.
I also tried to multi-segment it to the maximum (savestating like a beast) and got 29:06. I believe a TAS can do 28:XX.

Good luck in futures runs.
