Gauging interest: European Winter Marathon in Vienna

Hey guys!

Before anything, this would not be until 2014 if it does come to fruition.

So, I've got some connections to the Austrian eSports scene, as well as the owner of a venue where one of the biggest Austrian clans is hosting their events at (which also has equipment we possibly could borrow, and a good internet connection). Also noteworthy is that there's a youth hostel nearby for those who don't want to sleep at the venue - I already had hosted an event there before, so I should be able to set up room situations and such with them fairly easily.

So, with that said, I've been thinking that perhaps another European event would be really cool, and so it's not too close to ESA, I think setting it up for winter would be the best option.

But before I go ahead and hook up with the people I need to hook up with, who would be interested in coming here to Austria and doing a speedrunning marathon? Smiley

If the interest is big enough, I think we could get something going here.

Sounds like damn fun, but I don't know if I can get any additional vacation in 2014 (aside from C4L, ESA and the extraordinary summer holiday I'm planning) Sad

Its a long way off, but the wife and I are going to be traveling around this time next year to some nearby areas! Count me interested!

Depends on when exactly it will be. If I have the time, it would be a delight for me. I'm fairly new to speedrunning, but I guess the hype will stay for a while, especially if I could look forward to an event I can attent to =)

I haven't decided on a date. I'm willing to listen to suggestions in that regard. For instance, if most of you are free in December, I'd be trying to settle it into December. Give me a general idea and I'll try to find a date that works for most of us.
I would try to make it at least a long weekend (starting on a Thursday or so), but if there's enough people interested, we could make it a full week like ESA.

@icedpingu, the location I have in mind is Area 52: http://www.area52.at/ (site is in German), which is around the corner of Floridsdorf.

As said, I know the owner of the place, and one of the biggest Austrian eSports clans (AuT pBo, of which I'm sorta a part of lol) is hosting events regularly there, so it should be easy to set something up.

I'm free during french Christmas holidays (21 Dec -> 05 Jan). I also have a week free somewhere between February and March, but it might be too short if I have some school work (engineering school strats...)

I think a second european marathon is a great idea, no matter the location. Something in Austria where I could actually just drive without too much of a hassle has my full support.

In the meantime, I would appreciate any suggestions for date (even if you'd say "No December pls", then suggest a date).
I also would really appreciate if you could get the word out to other runners - the more people hear of this and express their interest, the better.

Regarding December 2014's calendar, the timing looks perfect between Christmas and the new year, so I think it'd be a good time.

Christmas is on a Thursday, so I suggest doing it from Friday 26 to Sunday 28, maybe with some bonus days before the 1st of January.

I agree with Gyoo. People will have free time on those days most likely so it's really good for a marathon. Really happy about this moving forward and I hope we can get as many runners as possible Smiley

I absolutely cannot do December And I can do between Christmas and the new year even less
In terms of date suggestion: 4th to 6th of January is a long week-end, but it's a bad one, because the only the Monday's a holiday. Screw that, AGDQ's then. Silly me. Next thing I could think of in terms of long week-end is Carneval (27th of February~5th of March). Otherwise any regular week-end, if you're fast enough

Screw that, I'm in the wrong year ~.~ Let me sleep over this.

As I thought, yeah I've heard a lot from the Area 52, even though I've never been there, but it isn't far away from where I live.

Due to my work I am not allowed to take time off between 1st and 24th December ("Urlaubssperre" :/), so I would be really happy if we could choose a date after the 26th December.

I can help you with streaming equipment (capture cards, cams, converter boxes and some other useful stuff).
