Hello all,

I am pretty new to speed running but I am taking an active interest in it (not just watching them).
I would like some suggestions for a game I could play and try out for speed running.

- The consoles I have are N64, Wii both PAL but will end up getting an NTSC N64 soon, but I would like to speed run something on the N64.

- I don't want to speed run Banjo's, Zeldas, Marios, blast corps or F-zero etc. because I played them to death when I was younger, but a platformer would be nice.

- because I am new to all of this I don't particularly want the game to be in excess of 1hr 30 minutes.

Thanks,

Daniel

Haven't heard of Mischief Makers before, just ordered it to give it a go, looks really fun. Smiley

I was thinking about having a go at any% in Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, still waiting for that game to come over fro ebay though.

If anyone has any other suggesions of probably lesser known speed runnable games it would be much appreciated, because they are eluding me

I know there is a guy that's REALLY good in speedrunning mischief makers, and he did so during AGDQ 2013 / SGDQ 2012 ( I think), can anyone help me out with his name and even link the video of him playing it?

Look at part 4
Waiting hurts my soul...
Rocket: Robot on Wheels
Ouch, Rocket: Robot on wheels is far from cheap to buy in PAL. looks really fun though
N64 and platformers? Hm, well, Mischief Makers definitely is one of the best ones in that regard.

There's the 64 Goemon game, Kirby 64, Bomberman 64 sorta fits into that mold, and Space Station Silicon Valley, but I have no recollection of that last game, so I can't tell you if it's good or bad.
I purchased Mystical Ninja starring Goemon last week (still waiting it to come through) but I heard that it is pretty solid game with very little skips, I also purchased Mischief Makers. the others are a little out of my price range at the moment, kirby is at £50 for a loose cartridge and crazy money boxed and Rocket: robot on wheels (my favourite looking one so far) is at £30-40 boxed.

I would prefer to play some of the lesser known titles that aren't completely broken down per-say, sadly the lesser known good titles are a pretty penny :S Paper Mario is going to kill me to get a PAL version!
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is a bit more broken than it sounds like you think in terms of skips. You can completely skip getting Sasuke, and you can skip the first Impact level if you're playing on Japanese version. There's other breaks here and there, but you'd have to watch a run to see what.

Paper Mario is definitely a broken title. Considering you can skip from the moment you're in Toad Town to Chapter 5, you can skip almost half of the game.

Still not as broken as OoT Wink

Which is less broken than Harmony of Dissonance.

As this is the main game that i run, i can only agree. Sotn got nothing on maxims shenanigans
You can also go with Goemon's Great Adventure. It's the sequal to Mystical Ninja starring Goemon and is much more of a side scrolling platformer. In my opinion this is a real underated gem. There is also a TAS for this for reference but it's pretty wild like most TASes.
I got my copy of Mystical Ninja starring Goemon through the post today. If I learn how to manipulate the awful camera angles I think i can learn to love the game. I think it is be a coin toss between goemon and mischief makers, Paper mario that i really want to have a go at is just too out of my price range at the moment. maybe try that one later Smiley
