its not suprising as i cant seem to figure out how to set fraps to use a different recording source than "CDplayer" "microphone" or "line in".

"use windows input" doesnt do jack either so how could i fix this issue?

the volume sliders for all 3 recording sources are in the middle.
ive installed new sound card drivers but that didnt help.

my mobo: asus p5b deluxe
my sound card: SoundMAX HD Audio

tell me if you need more info :/

Hmmm. Had that Issue too with my new On-Board sound.

Check the driver settings. Maybe there is a option called "Multi-Streaming". Or something similiar to that name. Enable it if its there. YOu should get some more options then for input/output sources.

Or play around a bit with the sound drivers.

That's all I can help you out so far.

hmm i can only find options for *cdplayer" "microphone" and "line in", what do other ppl normally set the source to?

(For Windows XP)

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control

Options -> Properties

Enable stuff.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i have mine set to "What U Hear" and it records fine for me
yeah, "What U Hear" is the best. i'm using audigy 2 and wave input (which was my default) doesn't record eax sounds.
Expert Donkey Fister
i dont have any "what you hear" option, only detect best and windows input

im out of ideas... http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5591/ffsfrapswd8.jpg

i put all settings to the max, recorded gta3 and i had a little bit sound on the recording but i could only hear it when i turned my speakers to the max, it was noisy as hell too :/

Jetzt wirds schwierig.

"What U Hear" is an option available in recording volume control for creative cards. it varies by cards and also called "streo mixer", "stereo mix", "stereo out" etc. i select that in volume control, and "use windows input" in fraps (since "detect best sound input" detects wave input).

from that screenshot, you only have three options in recording volume control as you said. i'm not sure but you might have to buy a sound card if changing drivers doesn't help.

Do you have a Dell computer, like me? I have the same problem, with reduced choices. I believe it's because we have sound chips, not sound cards. The Fraps people thought there might be a different (older) driver that would work, but I haven't been able to find one. Dell says I need to buy a sound card (naturally!). Possibly the chip mfr. has some such driver, but I gave up trying to second-guess what's on their site.
I also got a dell, you should try stereo mix, at first, when the volume is fully cranked, your video will sound awful, the solution is to put the volume down
(in audio panel-----stereo mix)
to approx. the second or third line, then it should sound fine.
I have the same problem. My audio drivers are Soundmax HD Audio and when I record stereo mix, there's sound but very low. I got to turned my speaker at the maximum to hear a little sound. Could you guys help me please ? I searched everywhere over the net and this is the only forum talking about it. Do I need to buy a new audio card or there's something I can set in my audio settings ? Thanks a lot !
Same problem for me. Does anybody here has a resolution for that ? I'm so confused, I am looking for a resolution for over a year now, I've tested everything I know but nothing worked.
OK you problemers!  Cheesy
I solve it. It's not, what it should be, but it's working for me.
OK here is what I did. My comp is plugged into technics stereo receiver, right. So my comp line out is going into T (technics) plugged as DVD. Line out on T is going back into my PC (Line IN). T is set to DVD, so i can hear the comp sound on it. In SoundMax control panel i checked the boxes LINE IN in playback control and LINE IN in record control. Clear?

Enjoy!
well it seems too complicated with that. just have sound on fraps come from mic and do a 1/8 inch male to male cable from mic to headphone jacks on pc and that should do it.

i have it working fine on my laptop but idk how to get it to work on my desktop, both dells with sigmatel audio stuff. i have an audigy sound blaster disc but idk if its already installed or what
update your drivers. fixed my problem.  Cheesy

Quite simple.
Go to Configuration Panel, select Sound, Volume, Advanced Settings, Options/Properties, select "Recording", and select "Stereo Mix", "Sound Out" or a thing like that.

Then launch Fraps.

Sorry for the English terms, I'm french, so I've the FRENCH version of Windows (we call that Windaube in France, Wincrap ^^).
He has the same problem as me. If you read he doesn't have the options such as stero mix, what you hear, etc.
Upgrade to driver version 5.10.1.6110.  Fixed the problem for me, I was having the same problem as the OP.
the main solution I've found is to get a 1/8" male to male adapter (cord with 2 male headphone plugs.)  Plug one end into the stereo out and the other end into Line-In or Mic (whichever you can get Fraps to see)  and that should do it, just be careful not to have Line-In or Mic feeding to the speakers, cause that would be bad.  Let me know if this helps.
well... Found the solution!
I've been along with this "problem" since I brought my MoBo, ad of course, installed FRAPS! And I just found the solution, someone on this very thread hint this, but I Can't remember! At the Volume Control (I think this is the name) I've enabled every output available... for my surprise some that was active (that I could control the volume bar) had the no audio box checked... I just un-enabled it!!! if I remember correctly is the LINE OUTPUT that you have to enable
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
hey i have huge problems with fraps i can record vids but my sound is through  my mic and i have enabled steromix becuase i cant get the others  "What you hear etc  because in fraps it still shows default sound when i clearly changed it
I guess that should solve it.

Well, i don't know why all the people have that problem and why fraps keep doing that, but it seems that Fraps automatically never record the sound output, it always take the input. That means that it will usually record from your microphone if you have one on it and activated it to record from. Generally if you want to record something, you do not must use a microphone, you can use as example just the line in or what the people keep saying, stereo mix or however your graphicdriver call it. Stereo mix is everything you hear, your output. Music, gamesound etc. You can reach that settings over the normal volume settings. There you have just to go over Options and Properties, there you find the record settings, where you can activate the stereo mix instead of microphone and don't forget to deactivate the microphone, so long you don't want to speak something to your recordings. =)
