I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
Well, the only place to use other characters is, of course, the battle. And i guess, the AI is just too slow/ineffective to help in a battle, a sorceress i.e. would first cast a shield, then a minor spell on the wrong enemy, etc., and if you have to control it yourself, you're loosing time.
But it might still be an interesting idea, especially when thinking about picking up a char just before a certain fight and dispose of it right after. Anyways, i'm not the BG guru.

Well, I was thinking about using more than one character for a new IWD run. In IWD you can modify your party upon loading a game, this can probably be abused some way. There are also some dialog bugs (like clone rizzo showed in the BG2 thread) and some scripting bugs like I showed in my new BG segmeted run that are only possible with multiple characters.

The main problem with more than one characters is that it's harder to travel fast (i.e. you need the double amount of Oils of Speed or whatever) and it also takes some more time to manage more than one character.

Notice on all the speed runs, only one character is used. Having more than one character could improve the functions of the engine and prove to be more interesting than already is.

Just a thought, curious to see responses why apart from problems with items like boots of speed only appearing once.

if it doesn't help me finish the game faster then why do it?
i used 1 more character on both my runs for a short amount of time...

Obviously looking for the shortest time is the purpose of a speedrun, but the idea is that there are possibilies that two characters might be able to run through quicker than one.

Just a thought.

if it was you would think I would use more than one character.

but obviously it's not

Holla?
Ok I deleted the other posts because I understand the logic of Damurdoc. I had previously not taken the entire thought to a full extent, which ended up in me forgetting that others are just as competent - and probably more - as I am. Disregard anything I previously said, thank you.

Edit: To remove the clutter from the PC Forum, I will just post a situation here.

With IWD:HoW, does everyone else suppose that a speed run should start off at level 1? Because if not, then one would have to import characters from another saved game. I only bring this up because IWD does not give you an instant level 8 or 9 if you create a new game with new characters for the expansion pack  Huh?

Well, importing a char would probably be a New Game+ run.
But you can level up very fast in HoW since some dialogs with the Barbarians early in the game gives you some 100000 EXP.
Holla?
Ah ok Grin
It's been a while since I've played HoW, but now I remember what you speak of. Just received my new cd of HoW since my last one was ripped to shreds by my dog. Will have to beat the game a few times and figure out some things, but since I really want to see the entire IWD series completed, I might try and go through HoW and TotL(Trials of the Luremaster).
Then go for it! I will probably start a new run on IWD soon.
I'm not sure though how a ToTL run could work since there's no clear starting point for that expansion.

I'd personally also like to see a run on IWD2. There's probably many possibilities in that game through all the class combinations you can build and with the muling and level squatting tricks you can gain insane amounts of EXP.

Holla?
I beat IWD2 a few times last summer, once on single player and the other times on multiplayer. I'd be interested in speed running this game as well if college studying and socializing permit it.

For now I am focused on HoW
