Alright, I know that you're already mostly through with your real run, but here's what I would do if I was going through ephraim's route.

Use ephraim like crazy.  Sieglinde or whatever his sacred twin lance is would rock vs demon king.
Recruit lute, make her a bishop.  Aura (i'd use ivaldi, but it's glitched...) + x3 damage modifier vs monsters = pwned demon king.
Saleh, uses excalibur.
Use an axe-user... dozla or garcia.  Hopefully dozla.  Give whoever works best Garm.
Recruit cormag.  He rocks even before he's promoted.  Make him a wyvern lord.  Use vanessa until you get him.
Innes.   Give him nidhogg.
Gilliam.  Best tank you'll ever see.  Use him heavily.
I'd recruit l'arachel so I have an actual mounted healer.
Rennac.  You don't have to waste time levelling him up.
Use Seth and Myrrh heavily, obviously...
You want to consider using Knoll aswell, just because he's the only person you can get who can use Luna.

That all's just me.

Lute can't promote to Bishop.

welcome to the machine
>_<

Dunno what I was thinking there...

Meh, I suppose her as a sage with S-ranked light and Ivaldi wouldn't be much of a loss.  It has higher might, a def bonus, a x2 multiplier against monsters (instead of a bishops x3), and bishops can't use it with any effectiveness anyways because of the bug...
Hey. All of that would be fine (except for Garcia/Dozla, Duessel is better for speed), but I don't have that sort of time.

I rely on pre-promoted units for just about everything, like in my Rekka no Ken run (using Marcus until I could add more to my list).

Ephraim's lance is called Siegmund, and I've given him enough attention to be worth something against small groups (it doesn't take much to beef him up though, since his growth rates are insane).
Hey. I just thought I'd bump this topic, and let everyone know that I completed the run with a time of 2:29.59 (138 turns).

I should be sending this one to Nate (.rar files on DVDs), so I'm pretty sure this will be made in 3 different quality settings. I need to talk to Radix first though.

Now, the wait begins... Grin

Hmm, nice. I still need to finish the game though... other things getting in the way (like Meteos, mmm). Gotta finish the game before watching the run, yes?
welcome to the machine
Congratulations!

I'll be watching this.

Have you thought about doing any other of the FE's, if you could? FE6, you could get easily, just order it online.

the others... I would have no idea where to get them outside of using ROM's...
Are you going to do Advance Wars?

FE6... my thoughts about speed-running it:

Roy would be even more of a pain than other lords.

using Pre-promos would be hard, since Marcus, Zealot, and every other promoted unit until you get to chapter 13/15 *coughPERCIVALcough* pretty much sucks. Lugh/Lilina would need to be used a lot... Dieck would be a major help though, and the axe-users aren't that bad. main issues are probably going to be bosses though...

Hey. I've thought of two other Fire Emblem games before, Seisen no Keifu and Fuuin no Tsurugi.

I realized 4 isn't possible sub-7 hours (capturing Jungby took around 20 minutes alone), and I asked Radix to remind me to slap myself if I ever mention it seriously again. Grin

As for 6, I thought of the possibility. I'm currently working my way through the game for the first time (emulator + FESS translation = good).

Personally, I don't care much for the game, but maybe it will grow on me more. I should be on Chapter 8 as of now, if I remember correctly.

Maybe if I have some extra money, I'll find it on Ebay. It's a good thing the Gameboy Advance is region-free. Grin

I'm also working through Monshou no Nazo's first book. That game isn't one to speed run, that's for sure. Heck, even putting up with it is hard.

As for Advance Wars, I don't own either (but I've played the original on an emulator), and I have a little bias against it for people saying Fire Emblem is "like Advance Wars".

FE6, if you want to run it, http://play-asia.com it's where I got my copy, I never even played the ROM with the FE:SS patch. FE6 isn't TOO hard... or at least some places. I can name a few chapters that would be MAJOR pains-in-the-ass: 7,8,11A,10B,13,14,16 *maybe*, 17*sacae*, 20 *sacae*, 21, 22. heck, 21's a pain even if I arena abuse...

FE4, just from reading walkthroughs even SOUNDS impossible to run... even with it having no Sucky Lord Syndrome like almost every other FE... I've only played the GBA ones. (as soon as my uncle gets the NES emulator and SNES emulator with the FE roms, I'll be good. ^_^)

Advance Wars is like Fire Emblem! Does that make you feel better about it? Tongue

Hey. Thanks for the link, but I'll stick to Ebay. I have higher priority items on my list of things to buy though (at the very least, it will come after another Love Hina DVD and Ice Princess).

The real Fire Emblem game I want to own is Thracia 776 though. It's the hardest one in the series (in my opinion), but I think the Warp/Rewarp staff make it possible sub-7 (just getting through the game is a challenge in itself though).

There are only 3 problems with Seisen no Keifu (enough to make it impossible though):

1. Enemy turns take forever.
2. Maps are huge.
3. The game is really easy when taken normal speed, but it actually becomes difficult when flying through it.

The fact that Sigurd/Cuan are your best units in the beginning doesn't help either. Sigurd has potential, but isn't exactly Marcus in the beginning.

Cuan just gets screwed over due to the absence of a "Con/Build" stat combined with being a lance user against a lot of bandits. Cry

[Edit]: I know where I could get Advance Wars 2: Blackhole Rising (I think that's the title), if I wanted to attempt it.

The RNG system in that game (if it's just like the original) is like Monshou no Nazo and Thracia 776...which isn't a good thing really.

Sure, it has it's good moments, but being that random could get ugly.

I always found the original to be freaking hard anyway. I got stuck on the mission that wanted you to capture more buildings than Olaf (I think that was his name). Shocked

I've always heard that FE5 was the hardest...

and I looked on EBay... nothing. no things for FE6.
Hey. Well, when I eventually buy it, it's going to be at least August 19th or so ($10 a week takes some time, especially with $50 in merchandise on the list)...hopefully something shows up by then.

Birthday money might help speed that up though...

Even so, I need more time to actually finish the game at least once (considering my Sacred Stones run was my third time, counting the practice run).

With this game being more difficult than 8, I expect around 2 normal runs to get fully used to things.

In the meantime though, I really should finish my Hector Hard game in 7, and possibly spit out a Lyn Hard run.
