I finally compressed the video to be used as a source file, but since its getting late I'll have to put in the specs and info after work tomorrow; though I not sure about 2 things....

The first is what type of console, like NSTL or PAL, is that for region preferences?

Second, I tried to compress the file I did on my Capture card, but I couldn't do it while the system was active; does it have to be from the cap card or from MP4?

Sorry about this, I'm kind of new to this sort of thing, and I got a lot to learn.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thread title:

NTSC vs PAL: it's not just region preference, but both have different video formats. For older consoles, NTSC runs at 320x240 at 29.97/59.94fps, while PAL runs at 320x288 at 25/50fps (generally speaking, there are a few exceptions).

For the source file, that depends on how you're capturing the footage. A source file is the direct video feed that is captured by either a DVD recorder or a PC capture device. A DVD capture is the easiest to understand since a DVD recorder has only 1 way of capturing footage (most use the standard DVD spec, which is MPEG-2 video). When it comes to a PC capture device, there are a few differences depending on the software used to record the footage. It could be MP4, AVI, or something else (depending on what the software decides to use).

Don't worry about being new to the capture process. We've all been there, so ask away.
Thanks honorableJay; so what would the Wii U fall under, NTSC or PAL?

Depends on what region you bought it in. Someone else with more experience with the Wii U will have to weigh in, but I believe it is region specific for games.

NTSC is for North American and Japanese games, PAL is for European games.
I got my Wii U and most of my games in North America, so I guess NTSC.  I'll have the specs up later on today.

Here's the file; took me a few tries..., hopefully, I'll know what I have to do next.
You did something wrong here. File size is like 4kb when extracted.

Try upload your files through https://mega.co.nz/ then post the download link in this thread.

I noticed that the site has copyright rules; am I going to get in trouble for putting files with video game footage?  Man I feel like a coward...  Sad

That's a project file. You need to send the actual video file. Capture with the Elgato and then click "MP4 Original" and upload that .mp4 to mega.co.nz.
Here's the link this time, I'm still new to using 7-zip and HOPEFULLY I got it right this time, I did use MP4 original this time but feel free to inform me if I screwed up.

You don't really need to be using 7 zip for sending video files. Just send the mp4 itself.

Anyway, the quality is great (it should be for 1080p HDMI). The problem is that the Elgato software only records 1080p at 30 fps. Since older games are 60 fps, you lose half the frames. You'll need to go into your Wii U's video output and change it to 720p and then ensure "Preserve Source Format" is ticked in the Elgato software. This will produce a video file with 60 fps at 720p. Once you post a quick like 10 second sample at 720p, I'll let you know how to set up for encoding using Yua for final submission files.
Thanks man, I guess I learned a few things today.  Tongue

Btw, is it okay to delete the source file, or is it still needed?
thethrillness.blogspot.com
Yeah that's fine. Just need the 720p source.

This should be set to the recommended specs, I hope.  But I'll say this, putting the Wii U at 720p does wonders for VC games.

Source file is correct. Now just download Yua and click and drag your finished run into it (the MP4) and encode using these settings.

Thanks Thrillness!  I assume the links on the yua thread for those computers are where you need to download right?  Because I've downloaded the windows version; unless I got that wrong.

But I can't believe this is happening..., I'm just about ready to get a speed run of this game on SDA, of course I still have a few more things to do and go.  Thank you so much!  happy

Yip. Good luck on the run.
Here's the final encoding..., I hope I did this right.

That's just another source file. Your encodes are what Yua outputs like these attachments.

Crud!  Sorry about that, here's the rest.  Good grief, just when I think I have it all down, I screw up at one point.  embarassed

Btw, using yua makes these games look awesome, so eventually I'll get all this right at one point.  Smiley

EDIT: Okay, I think I now know what to do; sorry about that Thrillness.  I'll be back with the whole run next time.

Man, that took forever; but its ready, I think.  I'll also apologize ahead of time for the first 40 seconds, I thought I stopped recording when I reset the game, but I didn't.  Sad  Also is the final encoding used to see if the videos will be qualified for posting or does it go straight to submission?

EDIT: I was reading on the submissions and final endcoding, and I realized I put the wrong time on there.  If you guys want, I'll go ahead and redo the run, since it got pretty bad towards the end on the final stage and for some reason I couldn't attach the files here.

If you have the source file, you don't need to redo the run. Just import the source file again and change the Stat ID (although if you think it can be improved you should rerun anyway). This will require the files to be encoded again though. And yes the final encoding files go straight to submission since the samples passed and they are just a reflection of what the completed encodes are.

If that 40 second thing happens again, Yua also has a trim feature where you can edit out stuff like that (as the name suggests, it's under Trim next to File).
I think I'll do that; and thanks for being patient with me.  Expect a new source file sometime tomorrow since I already deleted the original, and I'll try to do a better run this time.  Smiley
