The longest I'm hoping this will be is 12 hours but of course I'm hoping for less. If I can't get sub 10, I'll get sub 11. Since I doubt Radix will allow the use of the Al Bhed Primers in the beginning, I'll need new stategies for all bosses up to Defender X where I can obtain the items needed for Trio.
Good news(Or bad. However you see it) I started the run. I got up to the save after talking to Rikku and I have a time of 50(1 minute above KADFC). Sadly I made a mistake after defeating the forced Piranha battle and went to go fight Tros before activating the thing.
Wings to Discovery + Wings to Discovery = Trio of 9999 You get 30 of them from getting 3 chests in the Chocobo Race, which is very easy and will not take more than maybe 5 extra minutes. This is if you can't use Al Bhed primers.
Up until you can get the wings to discovery, play the game semi-normally, probably abusing overdives on aeons to beat bosses and generally just using Tidus to escape every random battle. Afterwards, play it like a NSG game. You can skip all of the ultimate weapons. Customize first strike in weapons for Auron and Rikku, and buy Sonic Steel for Tidus early in the game.

Actually it'll take a bit longer than just 5 minutes because you first need to tame a chocobo and also get there and back, but I'd say it would take around 15 minutes total. Not too bad of a difference between a NGP time and a normal run.
Are there any other customizations necessary for this run? I understand that by the time No Encounters becomes available, it may not be worth it. What about straight strength boosters like +20% or something.
No encounters, even at the end, will help greatly. At that point only bosses will be a threat and I don't have to waste time fleeing from battles and dealing with more time loss. I won't really be customizing unless needed as well.
Purifying Salts are rare steals which means I need Master Thief. I can get the items needed but it only for 1 character. If it were all 3, then it would be a lot easier. This will take longer than going to Baaj Temple and defeating Geosgaeno with Trio and a Water Gem.

I can't immagine there being more than 20 encounters for the rest of the game. And I estimate an encounter and flee to be about 20-25 seconds total, so totaled up is about 8 minutes. I have some doubts on whether getting no encounters is really worth it, but I don't have the game on me to check how much either would be. So check to see how many encounters you usually end up with going the rest of the route. You also shouldn't rule out getting those Purifying Salts on the way through Zanarkand because with luck manipulation it just might be the fastest option. Since it is on the way, and you're getting into encounters along the way too, you might only need to get into 3 or 4 extra encounters to finish getting them.
The encounter rate within Sin is quite high, at least in my experience.
I'd suggest making a segment to get a No Encounter armor from Ghost in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. Although I'm not sure if the time it'll take for the cutscenes and to get the armor will make up for the time you save on encounters later on. It definitely should.
Finding a Ghost is rare. Finding a Ghost and obtaining a No Encounters armor is harder. Geosgaeno is much easier as he always drops something and half the time it will be a No Encounter's Weapon.
I'm still certain it's faster that way due to not having to deal with the Gagazet and Zanarkand encounters.
Although my FFX doesn't work now, so I can't test how long battles were when just using Flee.
I'm sure it'd still save time though. As for the problem of finding a ghost and get No Encounters from it, that's the point of making a segment for that. If you do it that way though, the armor would have to be for Tidus, Wakka, or Rikku due to the underwater section in Gagazet.
Speaking of making segments, it is best that you keep the saves to no more than 5 or less. Opening the save menu is directly proportional to how many saves you have on the memory card, FFX data and otherwise. So the more data you have, the longer it will take to get the save menu up.
I'll take it into consideration and do a test. The most I want at that point is 10-15 battles. If none have a Ghost, I'll restart and do it again. After that, I'll use a second save with the No Encounters armor and go through. Considering most character's Armor will not be changed(I think. Have to reread the FAQ/Walkthrough), I'll just keep that equipped with no armor changes unless something good comes along. SOS stuff is very useful and I am HOPING I'll get something like this, especially Haste or Protect/Shell.
For the Memory Card, I moved all data on the Memory Card to a 16 MB one I bought long when I first got my PS2(Only would work if I used a Gameshark and since I don't have one anymore its only good for storage). Now the only save on it is my FFX speed run and there's only 1 save.
I've kinda been busy but I've kept trying in the beginning to get a time of 49 minutes or lower but I keep getting 50. Sure its just a minute but still I want a lower time. I get about 7 Grenades before going inside so the forced Piranha battle is very short. I may have Tidus get a quick turn in though for AP. If I can't get lower than 50, I'll just keep it and go on.

As with many games, it's faster to overwrite than to make a clean save. Also, if you can make backups, just overwrite that one file for your entire run to save more time(it's only a few seconds, but hey, this is a speed run).
Making a segment just for the Ghost battle is very useful, just save after the cut scene and keep resetting, I never knew you could get No Encouters that early.
It's already pretty much been determined that a NGP wouldn't really be too much longer because you're able to get 30 Wings to Discovery in the Calm Lands, and it wouldn't take too long to get. You also have a longer fight with Evrae, but it shouldn't take too long either. So it might be a 30 minute difference, which isn't too long considering the length of the run.(the words 'too' and 'long' were excessively used in this post, lol)
For Evrae and Seymour Natus I'll just use a Chaos Grenade Mix to cause large damage and status effects to them. Seymour will only be affected by Power Break and Poison but the damage should help. Also I'll have Yuna cast Nul Spells while in Haste and Tidus will also be in Haste attacking. I may level up a small bit while on the Highbridge as well.
Evrae is easy using Chaos Grenade. Just use it and he's huryt badly.
