I don't think 100% is very practical for a FF game that doesn't keep track of %.  There are just too many ways to define 100% in a game like this. Not to mention that it would probably be way too long to watch, in my opinion.

Yeah, 8+ hours is long enough anyway.  If you really, REALLY wanted to go for that then you would have to define your own category e.g. "All-GFs"  I don't know what the prevailing opinion is regarding challenge speedruns.  Whereas some of them would be quite interesting to watch as they make the game harder, and therefore more impressive imo, an all-GF game would just make it longer, not harder. (Fighting 20 tonberrys and getting all the Doomtrain ingredients spring to mind as being quite long-winded...)

I'd be interested to see what you can make out of an Omega Badge run though!
I don't think anyone is interested in watching a 12+ hour run of FF VIII. A well planed "normal" run is what we all want Smiley

FFVI 100% was defined as All Characters, All Espers.

Really, 100% in an FF game should cover all sidequests while still being reasonably tangible.

To me, a 100% FFVII run would be for all summon materias and everyone's best weapons.

I think the most reasonable thing for FFVIII is all GFs and defeating Omega Weapon. That seems to make the most sense.

If that's the case then it would only add around 2 hours, the most time consuming part is getting Eden from Ultima Weapon. 2 hours on top of a 8+ hour run isn't that much. But I agree with nokia, there needs to be a normal run first.
Last I checked, Tiamat carries Eden as well.

While you're here wasabi, enlighten me on something, willya? Why'd you shut off the Renzokuken indicator about halfway through the run? What does that change?

I think it's just to look cool Smiley  It doesn't make the animation any faster.
Quick question: are you allowed to move/delete the Save files between segments? As in does the Save screen always have to be identacle each time you see it in a run?
As long as there are no discrepancies between any of the segments, it doesn't matter.

really?
100% is like everything, so I think it should be far more than just all GFs and Omega Weapon.

Ultima Weapon, all magazines, Shumi Village, Unknown UFO quest, Chocobo quests etc.

This goes back to the point that is always made where 100% is very badly defined in a game that does not measure completion levels.  Where does it stop?

All Limits?
All Abilities? (Does using items for this count?)
All Cards?  (Are you allowed to refine rare cards before getting them all?)
Obel Lake?
Winhill?
The SeeD exams? (this one will require getting Squall up to level 30, which is not very speedrun-y)
Clearing out all bosses in Ultimecia's Castle?

I personally think that the fairest way is to define different categories e.g. an "All GFs" run (and this would most likely be left up to what the runner wants to put in), as I don't think there is a reasonable way to define a 100% speedrun in this game.  I'm not sure an All GFs run would be classed as a legitimate speedrun on this site, although I'd appreciate someone who does know clarifying this one way or the other.

Having said all that, it's a moot point anyway unless there's a normal run and I'm very much looking forward to seeing that!  How is that coming along, anyway?

Now that I've got all the software problems underfoot I've started my PC version run and it turns out there is alot more randomness involved to Ifrits cave than first appears. Pretty soulcrushing getting down a perfect fight with him ending at 6:55 with exactly the right health only to step outside and get into 2 random encounters on the way back to the road. Oh well, perseverance.
Hopefully I'm not boring anyone with this stuff but I've got another question.

My run's going pretty well but I've run into a problem: I just can't get Granaldo's Raldos down at the same time with one hit. Once my idea of Quistis' Ultra Waves actually being useful and time saving went out the window I reverted back to the ol' Shiva Boost tactic. Problem is, for whatever reason, I just can't get that boost meter over 130. I've tried various tactics with my gamepad (finger nail, spasming arm smashing and pen lid sliding) and keyboard but nothing avails. If I try to hit square faster than my thumb can on its own most hits won't register in game.

Any thoughts on this? Could just be the PC port or, more likely, my terrible ability at buttion mashing.
Heyyy... wait.. i don't know you. Don't confuse me

This game is cursed.. CURSED i tell ya'

But seriously.

I could only guess, but could it be possible, that a 11 year old game could have a limit to how many input commands can be given per second? It is a console port after all and back then, 500Mhz computers were godly. Again, just a wild guess. I hope you just have to dust off your USB connections or something to actually get it working and not being stopped by the software itself.

In my experience, the amount of damage from a boosted Shiva there is quite random.  When I stream, I play with a turbo controller, so I can get the boost meter really high.  And even so, one of the Raldos usually lives.  I try to time up an attack afterwards so that I take down the last Raldo after it gets one attack off (with varying degrees of success).
Found a horrible bug, as far as timing goes, for the PC version: the in-game clock goes over double speed whenever you participate in a card game. Finished up my final recording of getting Quisits' card only to discover the end save time was 2 minutes more than I expected. I just did some tests to prove it and the clock runs perfectly to the second when in the menu, walking around or in battles but 1 minute and 17 seconds, including 2 card battles, equals 4 minutes exactly on the in game clock.

Suck. I suppose it doesn't really matter as any PC run after mine would include this bug but it's a bit shoddy to say the least.

DarkKobo1d posted the entire first disc of his TAS WIP for those who are interested.

Excellent. Hope he uploads some more soon, it's a great comparative to the one I'm working on.

I wonder who will end up collecting my bounty, the suspension is killing me!
Well I'm Dollet away from the end of disk 1 and I'm deff going to keep going. It's such a great way to re-visit an old game I actually enjoy playing.

Much to my dismay, it looks like Sush.

Looks like I get to choose between this and RE2. I'll have to say this. Still at Elvoret/X-ATM092, but I think I'm going to restart and play on the PSP. I'm trying to squeeze out every last second I can muster from this run, and I've put too much effort into extra planning to quit now.

If bounty for this game had been posted at the beginning of this topic, than interest rate would be sky-high by now XD
Anyone care to explain how the Winhill convo skip is done (seen in one of DarkKobo1d's new videos)? My method currently is to zig-zag right and down very fast over the beginning of the bridge, to no avail.

Also, it turns out that skip is useless, because the patrol never starts, without it.
