So befor you go into battle with Ifrit you put Shivas ability to ice-Mag corret then from there you go to the beach and fight fastcolation-f's to get fish fins then KICK THE HELL out of Elvorett? correct
[/quote]
Elvoret is really easy, if you have 100 waters junctioned to Squall it only takes 2 Renzos to kill it.  Elvoret should have enough time to get in 2 or maybe 3 attacks.  Just gotta get lucky and not have Squall attacked with any magic.  Its attack shouldn't be enough to kill Squall even at critical.  And since you kill him quickly enough he shouldn't be able to get you with that whirlwind attack that hits your entire party.

do you use Aura's of somthing?

Critical HP.  I don't think it's possible to get Auras at that point in the game.

Ok that's cool man thank you very much. BTW your playing on the ps2 correct? Well when I get onto dollet beach the game clocks normally 0:31
but you get there at 0:30 and you go out of you way to get fish fins.(Damn this is going to be tuff)Sry but I have one final question until I get further or need your help again lol. What's your main strategey for Ifrit?
When I normally fight him I Equip Shiva to quistis then I go on top of the Fire cave and get the blizzard draw point give them to Squall, then do what I gotta do to get to Ifrit and I cast Shiva and between the time Quistis is casting Shiva I use my two blizzards then from there keep useing Shiva and squall does his melee attacks then by the time I beat him the clocks normally at 5:12 Is that a good Strategy? BTW I pick ten minutes.

Shiva is too slow to use against Ifrit.  I just kick his ass with Renzo and I usually end it at around 6:30.
PASSION OF MEL GIBSON!!!
all right thanks
Dum die dum
Since you will have full hp by the time you encounter Ifrit I first let my chars beat each other down. Then I unleash the Renzo, but also the Laser Eye. At that point it's quick andd does decent dmg.

Elvoret indeed never does it first. I had this awesome segment in which I did some Renzokuken then I hit Elvoret with Zell for like 25 dmg, and he dies. Smiley
How much time do you have left on the clock when your fighting Ifrit?
Also did you see the speed run on Youtube?

Sry folks I was under my cuzin's name didn't realize..

Can't check anything video-ish @ work, I'll check it when I am home. Same goes for the time on Ifrit.
It's 16 minutes slower than Wasabi's time at the Forest Owls' base.

I saw the draft run.

He should have done the config changes right when you get control of Squall to speed up text.  Just hold Up+Right to quickly change everything to fast, then when you get to the top to 'Battle speed' hold Down+Right to change them to fastest.  It's faster than going and individually changing all to fastest.

There's no reason at all to get the fish fins before Ifrit since you need his AP to get Ice Mag Refine anyway, Ifrit can get the AP for HP-J, and Ifrit does more damage to you getting you to critical faster.

You also don't need to walk the entire time in that one section where you're supposed to walk to avoid another X-ATM battle, there's a little section that activates that battle if you run on it.  Run to that section, walk across it for a second, then run again.  Just make sure you don't run too far and trigger it.

It only takes 30 seconds to get the Occult Fan in the Library while it took the guy 30 seconds to pass just 5 of those 8 tests, you also get more money from the Occult Fan.

Like I said before, I get the Quistis card before I get Diablos because it saves you the time from running back.

I refine the Wizard Stones you get from Granaldo battle to 80 Blizzagas and replace the 100 Waters.  It actually does save some time against Diablos, and might as well do it since I don't use those Wizard Stones for anything else.

I also take advantage of the wait when your characters attack.  This stops the ATB allowing you to press circle to get limit breaks and not allowing enemies to attack you while doing so.

I'm not picking at the guy's run since I know it's a draft.  I'm just giving some time saving advice for anyone attempting the run.

Ive been having trouble with th Fish Fins al day. I got the 5 fins then going to Ifrit and got fucked over. So you don't need to go and get the Fish Fins befor Ifrit? that's main problem. But what I did try was to fight a battle before Ifrit and then getting Critical but then I realy got screwed over this time. I went in the cave and I got four encounters normally I only get two in the cave also I get to Ifrit at like 8:20 battle starts at 8:00 this time I got there At 7:45 and the battle was over at 5:55. WTF am I doing wrong?
It's pointless to do the Fish Fins before Ifrit, because then you're denying Ifrit AP and you aren't able to refine the Fish Fins into Water at that point in the run.

I did the 80 Blizzaga thing myself when I dicked around with the game a while back.

So after teaching him HP-J, I can pretty much move onto STR abilities.
Also, doesn't Eye Laser do as much damage as Renzokuken during that part of the game? The attack animation is much faster too, and it fucks Fastitocalons up sideways.
King of hearts
I don't bother with Laser Eye.  It's not as strong as Renzo against Ifrit and isn't that much faster in animation speed(as long as you don't get Rough Divide).  It takes too long to get her to critical HP for it to be worth the time.  Against Fastitocalon-Fs, it is useful, but you only really need one attacker at a time and Renzo does more damage against Ifrit.  So you lose time against Ifrit draining her HP, and you gain very little time against the F-Fs.

I used to use both but found that using only one main attacker was faster.
Dum die dum
Really? I found lasereye to be very helpfull and my tests turned out quicker. Laser eye thing seems to have a real big range though, low dmg to quite high. I still can't check my timer on Ifrit kill, but I will after the weekend when I am home.
It seems a little more practical to whittle down Squall's HP. You'll have to use Renzokuken against Anacondaur anyway.
King of hearts
Well, it's been too long so I don't remember my times against Ifrit and the F-Fs, but I do remember I switched from using both Quistis and Squall to just Squall.  I know I did that because it was overall faster.  I distinctly remember my times on Dollet beach always being 0:31 when I used to use both, then it was 0:30 when I didn't.  Now my time is 0:29 with getting 6 fish fins in one battle instead of getting those at least in two battles.  I'm not saying it's a minute faster since 0:30 changed to 0:31 pretty soon, but I knew it was faster.

One battle definitely isn't enough time for the full effects of Laser Eye's short animation to make up for the time wasted getting Quistis to critical.
Just thought of a potential timesaver. Once a GF has learned all its abilities needed to complete the run, next time you go into the Junction Menu, select an ability they've learned, and cancel out ("Won't learn anything, OK?"). It'll keep them from earning AP, less boxes to scroll through later once a flow of AP rolls in. The time saved is probably negligible, but it's a thought.
King of hearts
Thought of that too.  Takes longer to go in the menu and make them learn nothing than the time it takes for learned stuff to appear.
Even if it's done along the way? =p

oh well. <_<

I was experimenting with FF8 on the emulator to try and see exactly where random encounters(I'll say RE from now on) happen in my game and how to avoid some of them with the menu trick.  As you know, as long as you reset from a save all your upcoming REs not on the world map will happen in the exact same places.  So I made an emu save state right when I reach Dollet comm tower since there's a RE the moment right before I can use the elevator.  If I run towards the save point I get the RE right before I touch the save too.  So I loaded my save state and started tapping the menu button to go to the menu to delay that RE, but I was used to triangle being my menu button from other games.  In FF8 it's the walk button so I kinda did a stupid skip on the way there.  Surprisingly enough I didn't get into a RE before I reached the elevator.  I've tried skipping many times from that save state and it worked around 80%.

Now I already know about the walking trick in FF7 but it does not work in FF8.  Walking only brings the next RE twice as fast since you're still moving, but now you're moving slower.  BTW the menu trick works regardless what point your RE is.  The RE distance logger(or whatever) seems to stop logging your movement while you're moving as you come out of the menu(thought the battle report Cid gives you still logs down the distance you walked... weird).

I've reset from that save state dozens of times and got into the RE at the exact same spot every time regardless if I used the D-pad or the joystick.  The skipping trick only seems to work here, and only for that one RE.  I've tried it on the way back coming down from the elevator but it only brought the RE closer.  I've also tried it in Fire Cavern and Deling City sewers but no luck.

This is only a tiny time saver but I just think it shows potential that there are ways to avoid these so called REs.  I've said this also in a previous post that I somehow avoided an RE that occurs in the Training Center on my way to fight Granaldo twice out of the many many times I've done that segment.

I'm going to continue messing around with the emulator to see what the hell is going on.
