Croc, FFVII, Halo oh yeah!
Yo guys i got a question about the FFVII speedrun on the PC. Its 7 hours 40 on the PC right? So SAY i got 8 hours on FFVII on the PS1 would it be down as 8 hours in the PS1 section or not down at all cos it didnt beat the PC time?

O.k, cos i really love FFVII and i used the old technique and the run was quite long but now there is this Tifa one (well thats not new) so i might practise it again and see what i can do. So yeah, all i wanted to know was if i do it on the PS1 it will be down as PS1 even if it doesnt beat the PC time? Thanks.

Maybe. There is a way of converting between PS1 and PC times, but I can't remember offhand what it is. It'd probably involve timing it manually by getting rid of loading screens, yay...

I know that the NTSC, PAL and Pc version all have different in game timers (its in a FaQ guide i saw). but what i mean is if i get a completely different time on the PS1 would it count, or would it not cos its not as quick on the PC. I think im confusing myself lol, er basically can i do it on a different console and it doesnt relate to the PC time.
sda loyalist
Probably not, because the game is essentially the same between the PC and PS1 aside from speed differences. (Yes I know about the RNG)

O so i gotta beat 7.40... damn that'll be hard. But yeah theres a time conversion between the consoles and PC. so when i figure that out i might be more reassured. But that suxxs, damn o well. might still give it a crack for fun.

Aye, you're not going to have much luck beating that on the PS1.

GarlandG is doing a 'perfect' speedrun. He's got a good few segments up on his Youtube page:

There are key differences. Such as, enemies are preprogrammed and such.  Also, cutscenes times are off, and yeah, there many differences

I know them. They are all summed up with 'timing' and 'rng'.

At the moment i'm playing through the game and making a guide for myself when i plan on actually speedrunning it proper. But, i'll most likely speedrun it for fun but if i find any new or quicker strategies i'll tell you guys. I really like this game so im gunna give it a crack anyways, but at the moment i just got call of duty 4 which is really good, so thats taking up my time.
THE GAME!!
The PC version I believe has faster loading, so they may allow a PlayStation version category but I'm not sure what the rules are with different versions.
Dum die dum
PC is definatly much faster with loading and playing. In the FF7 speedrun topic you can read a lot about it.

JESUS CHRIST

I KNOW
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
i think theres some randomization differences too
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
This thread sums up my feelings about FF7 very well.
Croc, FFVII, Halo oh yeah!
So if i even wanted to challenge it as such i'd have to get the PC version? That sucks...
sda loyalist
...no...

You would have to beat an equivalent time on the PSX version.
Croc, FFVII, Halo oh yeah!
Yeah that would be hard though. Garland is doing a run on the PS1 isn't he? So when he's finished that, they'd have to convert the time due to all the things that we've talked about like loading etc. so he might beat it.
Dum die dum
Or it could just be two categories really.

Garland's run looks really optimized at the moment. Considering the first PC record is done using his guide I think it would be pretty damn hard to beat. He has optimized stuff for seconds. Smiley

The FFVII PC record run at the moment is it a full path? (like constantly playing) or is it different perfected segments put together? Because i can do full path pretty well, with like no stopping and doin things right. ive done a few full paths before, im better when runs are longer cos i dont feel pressured, whereas if you make a mistake to get perfect segmented run then you have to keep doing it. I dunno just wondering. i could sit down and do the whole thing without stopping in like 9-10 if i kept practising lol. unless i did it coop, that would be cool. i might just mess around with the idea, not actually think of posting it or anythin.

I have something else to add. Say if someone wanted to beat this run (perfect segments or whatever) and they only played the PS1 version and they were really good but like due to battles loading slower and stuff it was too slow to beat the PC run, then he'd have to go and learn all the PC controls and buy it just to beat it. well im better on PS1 controls then PC, I dunno, somewhere down the line it seems a bit unfair. Im not sayin PC controls are hard, but if you have mastered it on the PS1 surely stupid things like loading shouldnt hinder you, in my eyes there should be two catergories. maybe...
You mean do it Single-Segment?

lolo26 did a single segment at about 9:07:xx on PC.

There may be more than likely 2 categories for PC and PS1.
Ok...

Just so you know, what you call 'Full Path Runs'  are called Single Segment runs, which are often shortened to SS for convenience.  Runs that use saves and the like are called 'Segmented runs.'

There was a topic awhile back about how some people thought these names, especially the word Segment appearing in the 'ss' classification, were a little confusing, but its one of those names that has just stuck since it was first used.  I would link to the topic, but no idea where it is, and cant be bothered to look.

Well, lets have a look.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/FinalFantasy7.html

'Best time, PC version: 7:41 by Andrew 'Farringa' Farrington on 04.06.07, done in 85 segments.'

That be a 'no' then.

I am positive this would not be the case.  I am not sure exactly how it would be dealt with, but I bet it has come up before.

If you were to submit it, I would probably watch it.  Strats that are fast but have a 1 in a 100 chance of working are nice, but sometimes battles which do not require luck to be on your side can be more interesting.

Single segment, yeah i remember now, whats its called when its not a single segment? Just a speedrun i guess... anyways thanks for the explanation. And to the lag.com i know what you mean, but if you like the controllers on somethin with not as good hardware as the pc run, ahh i dont know how to explain this. The PC is faster than the PS1 (yeah you know this i know) so basically the PC dude has the upperhand than the PS1 guy, BUT if you prefer PS1 controls then PCs you shouldnt have to go out and get the PC version just to beat it, cos the PC is quicker. I think you get what i mean, well i do but its worded wrong. No matter how fast you do it on the PS1 the PC will beat it in hardware and speed. (although someone will prove this wrong, cos the PS1 RULES.) Cos no one will take all the loading times off the ps1 (like getting into battles takes longer, so they wont minus the time off manually.)

*Ring!* moshimoshi? What's that, Attention-Span? It's called a multi-segment run?

...What are you wearing? ...Oooh, Attention-Span, you are a dirty girl.

No you don't. Reading your posts makes it quite apparent that you do not understand the meaning of the word equivalent.
