Oh, I'll make it to 75. No worries there. I'm more concerned that any of my consoles will last that long
The rest of the speed run won't be as perfect as it was once meant to be, but that only means it will be a few minutes slower. Thankfully, the next couple of segments have been made easier, so I shouldn't be stuck where I am now for too long.
What's the route to this run and some of the basic strategies? Did you find any shortcuts not found in normal gameplay?
I noticed a lot of damage items used to the beat the boses, does this become a recurring strategy as you get further and further behind in level?
What are some of the cooler strategies used?
One of the more interesting things I did in my speedrun back when the game first came out was get the beta attack from the snake early. I got red XIII with enough health, had to keep trying that segment until he came in with enough health, then equipped him with fire elemental armor so he took half from that. Then I used this item that dealed bio3, waiting until the snake was low on health, then attacked it, it did beta, I learned it, then the snake died from poison 3. Probably isn't necessary but still pretty nice to have that earlier.
So I watched all the segments that are done now; just a couple things I'm wondering about, seemed early on you went out of your way to pick up a few small items, like hi-potions/ether. At the end of segment 5 was one I question, spending 12 seconds to get an ether, worth 750, later you spend everything on 69 grenades, but I wonder couldn't you get 600-700 gill faster another way, like killing an enemy in a random encounter and getting an ether?
Also, I know you can get an item that does level 3 bio in midgard somewhere, do you know how long it takes to get that, could have sped up the sea monster fight.
Then I'm guessing you're good on money now after not getting that summon materia.
I loved how you've avoided any random encounters in the overworld, after leaving the first town and running by the snake in the optimal line was amazing, how did the snake get to you, you were in the spawp for so long.
Still going to do the whole of Cosmo Canyon, or are you going to glitch it?
Could you get Death Sentence then use the buggy glitch, or are you blocked in until you complete the Cave of the Gi? If you can get away with that, how would that affect the Materia Keeper fight?
There's 4 boss fights that are affected by not getting Death Sentence until the next possible opportunity at the Coral Valley on Disc 2 <_<
Spider-Waffle: You can read my FAQ and watch lolo262626's videos on Youtube for routes and strategies. As for shortcuts, there are a few, like going straight to Chocobo Square when Cait Sith runs of with the Keystone. It's mostly minor stuff. The best shortcut would be skipping the Turks battle in Midgar on disc 2. It can be argued whether or not that's a glitch, but it's actually more of a trick.
Battle items are mostly useful during disc 1. Afterwards, we use Tifa to deal major damage with the Powersoul.
The coolest strategy is probably the 7777 kill against Materia Keeper.
The reason why I picked up that Ether in Sector 5 was to make sure I only had to shop for Grenades once. If you don't pick it up, you have to shop twice, which is a few seconds slower, and you lose 750 Gil.
You can't get M-Tentacles in Midgar. Only Deadly Wastes, and they aren't needed since you have Bio anyway.
The thing with the swamp is just pure luck. If the Zolom is in the other corner, you can run all the way across before he reaches you.
CarC: Skipping Cosmo Canyon is almost impossible to do, and it's hard to tell how that would affect the rest of the game. I once hax0red myself a gold chocobo once I reached the world map and tried skipping stuff, but what often happened is that certain scenes wouldn't trigger. Besides, it's such a major glitch, and I doubt SDA would accept the run. Not to mention how it would affect later battles with lower EXP and the lack of Death Sentence...

I don't think that. But it would probably make this into a separate category because this should be considered a major glitch. The potential problems later in the run are a stronger argument to me. If you would get stuck somewhere around 3\4 of your run, you will try to bite your own ass off. And though pictures of this might be worth watching, I prefer to watch the run itself
Also, I second spider-waffle's question about that Cosmo Canyon glitch. Tell us more!
So there are actual sequence breaks the programmers didn't expect you to do. Are there any other ones like this Cosmo Canyon one? I'm not sure what it involves but I'm pretty sure it's legal, less and less of Nolan's rules are still being in effect as time passes, it's becoming more like TAS videos rules. I would vote you do any sequence break if it saves time.

The run would be accepted by SDA.
But do you get stuck inside Cosmo Canyon once you get into the Cave of the Gi? You could at least get Death Sentence and skip the rest of it.
How does skipping Cosmo Canyon affect the event switches and stuff? It doesn't seem like it would mess anything up to skip it.
What about the return to Cosmo Canyon in disc 2 after the huge materia? That seems like a likely candidate for event flag-related problems from the Cosmo Canyon skip.
Hey, I'm doing a FFVII TAS. I'm thinking of using 'wait' style ATB rather than 'active'. I think this may be better because it allows for greater luck manipulation in battle. Also, it allows for 'tricks' and better turn management.
Especially in terms of critical hits, steal, miss etc. Critical hits being the major thing of course...
From what I've gathered, you'll be doing things later in the game that kill the boses without need for much luck, though I'm not quite sure. So maybe you'll want to switch between the two depending on the boss fight. Also won't you be using grenades early to kill bosses, like grenades/crit hit/lighting?
It'd be cool if you figure out where that bio 3 item came from, I think I got near the end of midgard.
Any news with this run? It's looking fantastic, I really hope you use all the fastest strats and sequence breaks. I see you posting new FFVII videos in your youtube channel all the time; so you must have some time for FFVII
I have the time, but I don't have the luck and patience. This Right Arm segment is driving me nuts, and I usually can't stand to play more than an hour once a week. The chance of getting two Right Arms in two stealing attempts is about 1/100, and I'm way past 100 attempts now, so luck really isn't on my side. I also accept three stealing attempts, so that makes it even worse. Once I get past this segment, it gets much easier, and I'll be able to progress faster.
Do you want to fight two of those guys at once and steal both arms in one battle? Maybe there's some dependent luck on that. How many attempts so far? I'm curious, what do these right arms do for you anyway?
Would it be possible to answer stuff in this thread more frequently? Would be nice, but w/e

Right Arms do a bloody ton of damage (non-elemental) to a single target. Getting them is a chore and I can understand Garland going insane over the luck required to go two for two with stealing them. It's worth it in the long run though, as it will probably save a few minutes by raping whichever boss(es) he uses them on.
