I own the FFVII Ultimania Omega guide, and in that it details a speed runthrough that took 7 hours, 55 minutes and 34 seconds (the last time capable to be recorded via a screenshot was 7 hours, 26 minutes and 37 seconds).

Anyone else seen this?

everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
No, but I have seen this.

Check the link in that thread. The time you mention is listed there for the international version, which seems like it's faster. I haven't played that version so I wouldn't know.

Edit: For not liking this game, I've still posted 3 of the last 5 comments. =/

Yes, I've seen this. I own scans of this part.

They used Game Over limit break and most of the bosses after getting Cait Sith and they used glitch that helps to avoid fighting Turks in the Midgar tunnel.

Cait Sith's Slots isnt randomised so you can get Game Over even with closed eyes, after some practice. Timing is the key.

i'm just wondering... is there a BIG difference in speed between the pal and the ntsc version?

i only have the pal version here and my times are somehow... slow...

okay... i'm not playing with routes or planing... but i know the game very well... so i know what im doing at bosses etc...

Wow, I don't think anyone of us has thought to do that! I thought that NOT running from battles and doing sidequests would make the game go by faster!  Wink

Hey, go easy on the guy, he's still pretty new. and tonicsolution, here's a bit of advice: before you think, think. Lips Sealed Grin

Aw, I'm just kidding around. I've done dumber things.
Basically, people who come here should know that basic tricks are generally known and we concentrate on more hardcore techniques and ideas. Just take a look at the OoT thread!

Yeah... I'm doing that... that's why I'm still level 14 in Junon... and I consider this level 14 as a very high level in this area Wink

The point is... if someone got just under 8 hours with the ntsc version with a nearly perfect run and the pal version is slower ( it is in most cases...) then my run would be over before it started ^^;

Ah well... gotta try it... anyway...

Do'h! Homer'D!
If you want to improve your time, you might want to take a look at GarlandG's FAQ (Speed Run FAQ/Walkthrough) at GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/game/197341.html

Other guides such as low level walkthrough might help too. If you already knew about them, then just keep practicing Tongue

EDIT: About the PAL / NTSC difference, section 1.5 of the speed walkthrough is dedicated to that. Basically, the PAL version runs ~1.2 times slower than NTSC version but the timer also runs 1.2 times slower, so the in-game timer is equivalent. Problem is the FVMs run at NTSC speed (real-time) on the PAL version, which means PAL has an advantage since the FMVs take the same amount of real-time to play but the in-game clock is 1.2 times slower. Based on GarlandG's calculations, that FVM advantage is about 3:15 minutes for PAL gamers.

whooaa... then i'm sorry that this guy isn't up to scratch... geez.. i don't see any other reason why his times could be way off if he 'knows the game' so well. there's not many other things that will save you a matter of hours from an 'average' time. Roll Eyes

Thanks for the answer and the guide... helped me a lot... now i see the light again ^^
I will knock you all down!
Just wanted to let you know that the perfect run has been postponed again. I was going to start on April 25th, but we're still testing stuff, so it just has to wait. Also, I don't have a DVD-recorder yet and I can't afford one until May 9th, so I won't start before that either way.

For more info, read the Speed Run Discussions Topic on GameFAQs:

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I don't feel like rummaging through a crapload of posts to find the answer.  Has it been confirmed whether the Cait Sith's Slot's insta-win strategy is faster than not bothering getting it?  I remember hearing somewhere that there was a time of around 7 something at the final save point using it.

I dont' know if it's been discussed either, but in teh long run I don't know if it's worth it. It may take a while to memorize the pattern of the slots.
It'd make the run more fun to watch if it wasnt faster but either way I can't wait to see this.
Word.
First post... Registered just because I want to say that I cannot wait for this to be finished. I've downloaded alot of speed runs from this site, but this is the one I look forward to most.

You might have to wait a while for this one then, it will take a lot of planning for it to be finalized and stuff. While your waiting, have you tried watching the other FF runs on the site? FF5 was just put up, you might want to check that out.
Word.
Yeah, I know I'll probably have to wait awhile. I was browsing the forums on which they were still talking about testing and path finding. doesn't decrease my anticipation any. No, I haven't checked out FF5 yet, mostly because I am yet to play the game. The speedruns tend to be much more entertaining and impressive once I've played through the game I'm watching. Maybe I'll find a copy and give it a shot, and then watch the speed demo to quench my thirst.  Tongue

Oh, and to whoever is doing the speed runs for FF7, good luck, and don't give up. Alot of people are looking forward to it. I've played through 3 times now, and I can't wait to see someone tear through it. The storyline is excelent, and I know it will be entertaining to watch low level characters crush Sephiroth. I wish you perserverance, because though I have never attempted a speed run myself (have thought about it...), I understand the terrible frustration there must be. Get it done though... quickly... pun inteneded. Smiley

I think you read it too fast, he said "three times now."

I deleted some flaming. While that guest might have deserved it, I'm tired and I'm not in the mood to watch a thread burn today. Hope nobody minds.
I missed it; it doesn't affect me.

I'm cool with it. I don't want to see the message again.
