Single segment °_° !!!
That means no level up right ?
Well good luck ! I hope you'll reach your goal.
100% runs=great to watch
Single segment means no turning off the machine to try again at tough parts.  She'll sit down for several hours, start to finish, of straight play until she reaches the end credits.  The current run for FFVI is multi-segment by contrast.

Everything's better with Magitek
Yeah, my characters will definitely level up during this run, although they'll only be between levels 16-20 at the end, IIRC.

Ttechnically, I won't be playing straight the whole time, since I'll have to change tapes twice, but the idea is that it's played without saving and resetting the console.

I did it!  I DID IT!!!!

The final time shown was 4:38, and the final time is somewhere around 4:48!

It wasn't perfect, but it was only a minute slower than my fastest previous attempt.  Besides, I think I've had enough of this run anyway. Wink

Time to type up some comments...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Congratulations Essentia. I never thought anyone would complete a Final Fantasy game single Segment, but here we have it.

P.S. I hope to see a possible Kingdom Hearts run in your future. Just a suggestion.

Congratulations! I've always wanted to see a single-segment run of this game, and once considered doing one myself. I'm glad someone has shown that in spite of the nature of RPGs, speedruns of them don't have to be sixty-segment endeavors, contrary to popular belief.

This is quite an accomplishment. I'm looking forward to seeing this.

In a speedrun, you mean. Plenty of people have marathoned Final Fantasy games and have beaten them in one sitting. Take the ODINS (One Day in No Saves) Challenge for Final Fantasy X, for example.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Of course of course. I've actually completed KH, KH2, CT, and FF9 all at different times in one sitting. However Chrono Trigger and FF9 both took me all day, and wouldn't have been in speed run time.

What I meant to say was that I didn't think anyone would be able to complete a large RPG in general without ripping all their hair out everytime they died in the last hour. Seemed too luck oriented, but Essentia has proven me wrong.

One more question, Is this run going to replace the current run, even though it is the Final Fantasy III version for the Super Nintendo?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Um, I thought both runs were done on the American super nintendo version.

Yes, they were.  I just like calling it FFVI instead of FFIII.

Then your run will obsolete the current run.

EDIT: Second the suggestion for a Kingdom Heats run.  Smiley
finally done Smiley
congrats.
Great achievement Essentia! I read your progress here daily, and finally you nailed it! :-)
Shocked Cgrats! Looking forward to it!

How come the SEG is longer than this SS? Only because of time lost in saving/loading? Or is there a "new ground-breaking strategy"? That's just insane! Really Good Work!

hmm.. now i need someone else to encourage to do his/her run ^^
Great Job! This run has been on my "most anticipated" list since I saw the thread for the first time.
Do you have a record of how many tries it took (and how many of them ended at the hands of the IAF ;))?
...
Congrats, Essentia. I really look forward to seeing this run.

I''ve been kind of planning to do a Donkey Kong Country 2 any% run next, but Kingdom Hearts is definitely on my list of future runs.

I use some tricks that I learned from the TAS, but the really big timesaver is not leveling up in the WoR.

It will actually be over 5 hours of real time, since the in-game timer is slower.

If you count every single try (even the ones that ended less than 5 minutes into the run), I probably tried at least 50 times.  However, 11 of them got as far as the Cave to the Sealed Gate (I know this because I wrote down to keep track of how many MP I got there), and I think around 7 of those ended at the IAF.  (I only ever made it past the IAF 3 times.)  I know this might not sound like a lot of tries compared to other runs, but so much depends on luck that I was very happy just to make it through the entire run.  Besides, even if I were to redo it, I don't think it could be improved by more than a couple minutes.

Like I said before, it's definitely not perfect, but at least there weren't any big mistakes.  IIRC, I messed up Joker Doom twice, but that's not bad considering I had to do it around 25 times (and luckily neither one was very serious).  I had some pretty close calls a couple times, so I hope that makes it more exciting. Wink

Thanks everyone for the continued support and encouragement.  I'm glad that everyone's looking forward to this run, and I'll try to get my comments done and this sent in as soon as possible.

Edit: Ha, stanski!  I told you I'd have it done by November. Wink
