Everything's better with Magitek

Okay, after doing a lot of testing up to Zozo, I've made a bunch of revisions to my plan. (You can look on page 10 if you want to see the changes.) Mainly, I've made decisions about most of the things that had (?) and made revisions to equips and relics. I'll do more testing today (hopefully through the rest of the run) because I want (try) to record this either tomorrow or the next day.

Hiya. Looks like your plan is set. I have some ideas for cash if you're interested.

Narshe (WoB) - After the Kefka Battle, the treasure room south of Arvis's house has some good relics to sell.

Magitech Facility - Lots of potential cash here. If you pick up the elemental swords here, you can sell them later for 3500 each. There are 3 in chests in the factory. There are various pieces of Gold armor, the only one worth stopping for is the Mail (5000). The Dragoon Boots (4500) and Zephyr Cape (3500) are also in chests here. You can also steal a Rune Edge (worth 3750) from 024, which will give Locke something to do. There's a Break Blade (worth 6000) hidden in the Hallway with tubes before the room with the Espers and Cid.

Imperial Base - Besides the loot in the chests, there's a flame sword in the stove. After selling the relics and the sword, there's great cash here.

Floating Continent - Magical Brush (5000)

Figaro Basement - Gravity Rod (6500) and Crystal Helm (5000)

Darill's Tomb - Crystal Mail (8500)

Tzen (WoR) - In the collapsing building, there is a Pearl Rod (6000) and a Hyper Wrist (4000)

Also, you can always kill Hoover's as they give 10k GP each. Good luck on the run!

Everything's better with Magitek

Well, last night I recorded my first attempt at this run. I made it to the 4th Ultros battle (on the airship before the Floating Continent), with a time of 3:41 game time (4:15 real time), and he wiped me out because Sabin hadn't learned Doom...Sabin is supposed to learn Doom in the battle right before Ultros, but he died during one of the IAF battles, so he just barely didn't learn it (98% :'(). It was sort of my fault, because Edgar was supposed to know Cure at this point, but I had messed up and given him the wrong esper; so during the IAF battles I was trying to heal as little as possible since I didn't have many healing items.

I guess I'm kind of glad this run didn't work out, because there were a bunch of mistakes. And the entire Magitek Factory section was just awful--I think I lost my concentration there once I realized I'd equipped the wrong espers on people.

I'll probably attempt this run again sometime today, and then after that I'm not sure when I'll have another chance. My husband and I are moving out of our apartment next Tuesday, but this weekend most of our stuff is leaving (including the tv). So I'm not making any promises as to when this will be finished.

Hmm...I may bump the segmented run I was planning up my queue a bit (currently an unorganized mess ;)). I already have some decent plans on what I'll be doing and when, so it'll be interesting to compare to your run (since it's entirely likely that you'll finish before I even start).

Obviously there would be some differences since I'll have the advantage of luck manipulation.

Hmm, this could get interesting...I've been thinking quite seriously about doing a segmented run as well after I finish this SS run. I have some plans for it also, and it will be pretty different from the SS run. Well, a little competition never hurt anything, right? Wink

Well, I've had a few more attempts at this. One ended on the Lete River when Banon got killed (grr...). I had another one that was going pretty well, although it was 4 minutes slower than my first recorded attempt. I had just completed the Cave to the Sealed Gate, and I paused to switch tapes, but then I accidentally tripped over the SNES power cord and pulled it out... Cry

I've convinced myself that I'll live, though, especially since I had a really embarrassing mistake in that run that cost 20-30 seconds. (Let's just say I got lost while riding a chocobo...)

I might have some more time today to record some more--we'll have to see. (The difficult thing is finding 5-6 hours straight that I can work on this, especially now that I'm staying at my in-laws' house.)

Another good run ended at Ifrit and Shiva yesterday...(it was 2 minutes faster than my fastest previous attempt, which hopefully means I'm getting better). I'm out of town for the week (visiting my parents), so it'll be another week before I get to try this again, but I won't give up on it. At least I'm getting the first half of the run memorized pretty well. Wink
