Everything's better with Magitek
Edit: See Page 10 (9-11 posts down) of this thread for route information.
I've been thinking about this run for a while (since before I finished my FFIX run). FFVI is my favorite FF game, and since there's already a segmented run on this site, I thought I'd try to do it single-segment. I'm planning to pretty much follow the same route and use the same strategies as the segmented run, unless anyone knows of some improvements. There are a couple issues with a single-segment run, though.
1. I don't think I can count on getting the second experience egg from the coliseum; thus leveling up in the dinosaur forest will take longer.
2. There's the possibility of getting "annihilated" (especially while leveling up) during the run. I don't yet know how likely this is to happen--I need to do some test runs. When this happens, the game takes you back to the last place you saved, but you keep any experience that you gained since then (everything else is the same as when you saved, though). First of all, will the run still be considered single-segment if I save every once in a while, so I can continue on if I get annihilated (still in a single sitting, of course)? Second, since the time will reset when this happens, how do we deal with that? It obviously wouldn't be fair to use the in-game time for the actual time, because this could be taken to extremes; for example, you could save once at the beginning of the game, level up to 99, get killed, and start back at the beginning with max levels and only a few minutes on the timer. (As a side note, Ultima Garden actually has a separate category for a run like this.) I was thinking a possibility would be to time the sections between saving and getting annihilated, and add those to the final time.
Edit: Ignore the above two paragraphs--the plan has changed. I'm going to try to avoid leveling up, and I'm not going to save at all during this run.
Anyway, I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this, so I know whether or not a single-segment run would be feasible.
Edit: I forgot to mention that this will be on the SNES version.
