Glowy eyes of DOOM!
I was just thinking about a couple things recently:

The current run doesn't glitch past Neo-Exdeath because I don't like it.  However, I anticipate saving about 3 minutes if I were to skip him.  Make this about 4 minutes if I redo the last 9 segments, because I wouldn't have to open as many chests for the money I needed for my $toss Neo strategy.

Now, if I were to go that far, I thought maybe I might as well go all-out and redo the run from scratch, because I thought of some possible improvements I could make at the end of world 1/beginning of world 2.  These improvements alone probably wouldn't save more than 1-2 minutes; however, I'd surely make fewer little mistakes the second time around, and thus save even more time.  Altogether, with Neo-skipping, and without even adding any more segments, I might be able to save ~8-9 minutes overall.

What do people think about this?  Would there be any demand for a slightly faster Neo-less version of the last segment?  Of the last 9 segments?  Do you believe it is proper and fitting, in accordance with SDA standards of rigor, to redo the whole run if I could save ~4-5 minutes (or ~8-9 w/o Neo)?

Maybe it can be a separate category.  Did you use that berserk glitch thing (forgot the name) on other bosses?  If not, there could be one that abuses the glitch and one that doesn't.

Kiss of blessing (blessed kiss in the PS1 version) doesn't help in most boss fights.  The berserked, hasted boss is actually more difficult to deal with than the original one, except in a few cases.  Yes, there are ways to nullify the resulting physical damage, but this is usually more difficult to execute, not less.  I only used it against one of Neo-Exdeath's parts, not finding it helpful anywhere else.  Apanda maybe. . .

Well actually, I do use kiss of blessing a couple more times on my own characters, but that's not what we're talking about here.

So the point is, the time saved would come from skipping Neo entirely, not from making boss fights cake.

I vote, as well, for sending your current run.  Were someone [you, perhaps] to defeat the final boss with a glitched fight, I also think it would be listed as a separate category, anyway, and your current run would still be upheld as the "legitimate" one.

Congratulations, though, no matter what you decide.  Cheesy

I figured you had skipped Neo actually. I think we're way past the point of worrying about "SDA standards of rigor" here, but SDA policy is closer to a "submit now, improve later" kind of deal anyway. You can always include both versions, just like the Murder Beam-less Super Metroid, although I personally am on the glitch side of those. It might make a difference whether or not you are capturing yourself or sending the tapes, but I recommend:

1) sending this version as glitchless, but recommending as default the version where you...
2) redo the run if you can really save 8-9 minutes and you want to do it
Do we have to wait 'til it gets put on the site, or are you going to upload it?

I wanted to bump this to ask aresake what's going on with the run. Did you submit it?
King of hearts
I was just about to bump this topic but Enhasa got here first.  Seriously, what happened?  It's not even up for verification.  I must verify!

I got a PM from aresake a while back (after my FF2 was submitted and before it went up) saying that he was unsuccessful in getting Radix to respond to him, and asking me if I was having any more luck.

I didn't tell him to be that patient. Tongue

Edit: maybe he is redoing it to save the 8-9 minutes he estimated. Hopefully, anyway, compared to another explanation.
Glowy eyes of DOOM!
Hello again.  It's been a long time since I posted or even checked the forums. . . yeah, I'm a terrible person.  Basically what happened was, I had to travel back to school and the tapes were being copied at the time (It took longer than I thought) so I couldn't bring them, and I forgot to write down the segment times, which Radix needs, and, and . . .

Due to all of life's other obligations, I haven't been especially hasty to make sure that I could get the tapes back in my possession.  Last semester I spent a little too much time working on the run and it caused me to fall behind somewhat in schoolwork, so I don't want to repeat that.

So anyway, I should be getting them back in the mail, hopefully by Friday.  Then I'll record the segment times and do whatever else Radix wants, and finally submit them.  I hate to say this, but, I would advise people not to hold their breath in anticipation of this run's appearance.  When things are getting closer to completion, I'll hopefully post again.

Dibs on verification!  Glad to see everything's alright.

Hey aresake! Good to see you're doing ok. No need to rush. Your real life comes first of course.

And besides, once you send the tapes off, it'll still be awhile before they're actually posted. Wink

Whoa there buddy, you're about 7 hours late.  Dibs don't matter since we have to duke it out in PMs when it comes up on the verification list.  Bring your keyboard and mouse and we's gonna have some o' that internets flame thingy!

...Or we can just both verify...

Well, I was going to complain about it at 3:10 (my time) but complaining is always more fun at bedtime!

The run isn't done yet, we're all waiting for new news about its development.

Actually, the run has been finished for about 2 months now, I just haven't been able to submit it!

Fortunately, all the hurdles are clear and I'm going to mail the tapes to Nate tomorrow.  When I was watching the run for the segment times, I noticed that I'd accidentally pressed the record button somewhere and deleted about 20 seconds of the run.  This was rather upsetting, but by a stroke of luck those 20 seconds landed on nothing but dialogue.  By another stroke of luck, one of my failed segments that was still on the tape had the exact same footage! So, now that I know that the hole can be repaired, Radix finally gave me the go-ahead on submitting.

I'm not going to make any estimate on how long the process will take from here.  But, it'll be out of my hands tomorrow, so any further delays should be blamed on someone else.  Wink
King of hearts
That's good to hear.  But you should ask Radix about that 20 seconds of dialogue.  I'm pretty sure it'll be alright but just double check with him.  I really hope I get to verify.
MGS for PS1 forever.

I think he did already.

Damn it, why do I always seem to miss the important parts of a post?  I need to read more carefully.

Good job aresake, and hopefully you'll be around when it gets published so we can tell you how much you rule!
Glowy eyes of DOOM!
Don't worry, I'll always be around to indulge a vanity fest. Smiley

Not to sound impatient, but does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes from submission to publication for a run like this?  I'm fully expecting 4-6 months or more, but if someone more knowledgeable than myself has a better idea, that would be cool.

If you have a verifier, it depends on how long it takes them to watch.  Sometimes Radix likes two verifiers.  When they finish, depends on how long Radix takes to time the run (sometimes he needs input on that), and then were it is in line to be updated after it is uploaded.
