Hey spikevegeta, have you made any more progress at translating Garnet2525's route?  If you need help I could take a crack at it.

I did a disc 1 run using the new route, and it seems pretty solid so far.  I'd probably want to equip Steiner before heading for the Plant Brain, since with Garnet's setup if I got the kind of Evil Forest encounter luck I did in my last FF9 stream, I'd lose time due to having to wait for Zidane's ATB to fill during each battle.  I'd also want to put the Silk Shirt on Vivi after Plant Brain since the Plant Spiders don't really seem that likely to kill Zidane; and during the equip changes in Gizamaluke's Grotto and Burmecia I'd have Zidane switch between the Ogre and Mage Masher instead of the Ogre and Dagger (since the Mage Masher has Flee too).
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hey puwexil. Yeah, I've been busy the last week or so and haven't gotten around to translating Disc 2 yet. This Wednesday night, I'll get back on it though.

I agree with all your changes pretty much. The extra menu to equip Steiner seems worth it to give yourself another way to kill Fangs, and putting the Silk Shirt on Vivi right after Plant Brain seems worth it with Zidane being pretty immune anyways. Equipping the Mage Masher/Dagger in Gizamaluke's Grotto seems arbitrary to me. Without the Ogre equipped, and Freya in the back row, you can't kill too many enemies there anyways. I'm gonna stick with the Dagger I think.

Segment 1 - 8:20
Segment 2 - 32:48
Working on Segmented by the way.
Damn, now I can't wait for my new console and game* to get here. We shall have us a race!

*I figured out why I suddenly couldn't get through some of the FMVs without multiple resets (and a lot of resurfacing with a SkipDR). Turns out the PS2 I was using actually scratched my discs, so now I need both a new console and a new game.

In the meantime, I'm continuing my practice run on my other modded PS2. About to enter Fossil Roo, and with Millionaire, and assuming I just get 700 Gil from the sword fight, I've had enough money so far by just picking up the same gil treasures Essentia did.

BTW, the reason I can't use this PS2 for the run is that, while it plays NTSC games, it plays them in 50 Hz. >_<

I fixed Segment 1 so it was 8:15. meaning Segment 2 should be a lot faster, I went for Mage masher first steal, and Cinna getting killed right away.
Im gonna perfect this run so hard.

Still four seconds slower than me! :smugbert:

Your segment 2 is 23 seconds faster, though, but once I'm sure that I can "skip" the sword fight, I'll be sure to fix that.

Outside BMV in the practice run now.

Here's Disc 2. Sorry it took forever, I've been busy. Hopefully I can crank out Disc 3 in the next week or so.

Alright, here's Disc 3.

The card game was the hardest thing for me to flesh out in the notes, and things got a little wonky with explaining how to equip Zidane when you do/do not have the Rebirth Ring. Things will get clearer as you play it though. I hope to start Disc 4 tomorrow and maybe even finish it and post it.

Im probably gonna start mix matching the strats hopefully to get faster outcomes in certain areas.

Alright, I gave in after getting back from my trip. I want to investigate the possibility of using the Gold Chocobo "Bug" to skip the middle part of Disc 3(Oielvert/Desert Palace/Mt. Gulug).

I've never played the Chocobo Hot 'n Cold game before, so anyone's advice if they know anything about how to do this and/or specifically how what all actually has to be done to get this trick to work would be much appreciated.

Here are two FAQ's I found that describe the glitch and just the Chocobo sidequest in general:

I'm pretty sure that this will only work on ve~ry early releases. Also Chocograph digging can be ve~ry time-consuming, especially if you're waiting for something (i.e. golden Chocobo chocograph) to appear. I have no idea if there are any RNG-manipulating ways to actually find chocographs more often than not (although I would assume no).
The way all the digging maps work is, that you have one single object placed there at a time, and the next object isn't put there until you dug up the previous object. So you'll find yourself digging up mountains of Gysahl Greens (or however to spell them correctly), shelffuls of potions and other healing whatnots while waiting.

I once spent the better part of a night (I think it was midnight till five thirty) on the digging game, and at the end had not acquired enough chocographs to get anywhere near the golden chocobo. Plus also, it is random which chocograph you find if you get one (I think), so you might be lucky and get the required ones right away, or you probably won't.

So while this might—just might—be okay for a segmented run, I would recommend not doing it for the marathon, unless there are many little tricks I have not heard of so far.
Everything's better with Magitek
When I did my segmented run, I tested out using the Gold Chocobo bug. First of all, I found it doesn't work on my copy of the game. Second, IIRC even if you could pull it off with good luck in a segmented run, it wouldn't end up saving much time (if any, since you'll have less AP, money, and equipment, which could affect future parts of the run).

Anyway, I don't think there's any way you'd want to attempt the Gold Chocobo bug in a single-segment run, and definitely not in a marathon run since watching the Hot 'n Cold game over and over will be much more boring for the viewers than going through the game normally.

Yeah, I spent most of last night digging up items before I found out from the ol' internet that Square found this bug after early copies of the game and fixed it. They apparently made it to where you can't get the last two pieces of the chocograph until after you get the Hilda Garde 3, where as in earlier copies, you could get them after getting the Blue Narciss.

The reason why I even asked was because of a few people in my stream claiming that it would almost certainly save time even in a SS run, but I don't really see how unless there was something I was missing. I basically understood that I needed to dig up the 6 "Chocograph Pieces" specifically in the Chocobo Forest on Disc 1(which the bug guide above said he was able to do), then after getting the Blue Narciss, find the 20th Chocograph treasure and get the Gold Chocobo to fly to Ipsen's Castle. While I did get 3 pieces of the chocograph, it still took over 45 minutes, and the way some of my viewers put it, it would haved saved me like an hour in a SS run. But to do that, you would need to literally be able to dig up all the pieces in like 10-15 minutes, not to mention we would probably have to do a couple of battles on the Grand Dragons to make up for lost exp./ap/gil.

Yeah, currently it looks like that trick has no real application in a SS, obviously not at all if we don't have an early copy. I wouldn't rule it out in a Segmented run though. in Garnet2525's run, that area we talk about skipping would have been like 1 hour 20 minutes or so, so if someone had an early copy and wouldn't mind adding like 6 short segments or so, then they could save decent time I would think.

You also need some specific chocographs beforehand. Most notably you need to get the reef ability first (that's a chocograph close to Cleyra iirc), then the mountain ability (which is located somewhere in shallow waters near Treno) then sea (which is located up a mountain on the seaside of the Mist Continent). Only then can you actually access the treasure chest containing the sky ability (aka golden chocobo) which is located between some Islands off the Mist Continent.
The reason why they say it would be time-saving is probably also that you'ld be randomly digging up some other chocographs, whose treasures you could grab and sell.

Lol The people in your stream claiming such things, have no idea what they are talking about, My copy does gold chocobo bug, and during SS/RTA you would save no time, and end up losing time, You skip Olivert/Desert palace, and Mt Gulug which all together is about 1-2 hours time.
Chocobo you'd have to get the right Chocographs that transform you chocobo, get all 6 pieces for golden chocobo, and then deal with being a lower level and lost AP causing you to die later on. Again even in a segmented run, You'd have to deal with 11 (22), 11 (22), and i think 12 (24) AP (bracket ones would be AP up), Chances are you're gonna lose some vital abilities not to mention you lose the ribbon (Good luck with water absorbs). also, Not all chocographs are in the forest, some are in the lagoon (aka red chocobo transformation ) which adds more Chocobo traveling.
I managed to get the obtaining Reef chocograph down to 14 minutes along with the first chocograph piece (Pretty sure there is only this one on the first visit)

After that you would require a 3 minute detour before heading to Cleyra and watch the reef cut scene (Takes roughly 50 seconds on the first visit I'm not sure if the speed of the cut scene varies each time) with the rest of the hot and cold being done after Lindblum 3 (We need a more boring disc 3 start) and be luck based on if it could save even 5 minutes since it would also effect the AP values ETC.

As for the Ribbon it can be obtained in the Treno auction house but it takes around 4 minutes to cycle through everything if its the last item and generally wastes time. AP could be gained with a quick walk over to grand dragons while pointlessly searching the map for a cloud to get into the air garden (This can also take 1-5 minutes depending on luck)

Still it might be something to consider if someone ever wants to do a TaS run one day.
トマトごはん(http://com.nicovideo.jp/community/co1464263)  just got a 9:34:55 RTA today, his record is WR.

wow, I was just about to post that :p

He actually did two full runs back to back, the first one was 9:41:45, and then he got the record on the 2nd run. 58 total random encounters, which was the same as his previous best run.

I will try to remember to capture this run from nico when I get a chance.

Wow - anyone who can still be on his/her A-game after playing for almost 20 hours straight deserves the record as far as I'm concerned - definitely curious to see if Tomato Rice uses a different route or just got really good encounter/ATB luck compared to the other FF9 JP runners.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
....Amazing......back to translating........
Got Disk 1 captured, I'll do the rest when I'm not doing anything else on my computer
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Kinda got side tracked with Tomato Rice coming along and destroying more 3D FF's. I'm working on translating his guide, but I just wanted to post at least my translations for Garnet2525's Disc 4 run. You'll have to watch his/her run on twitch.tv/garnet2525 to see where each of these equips happen, but it's pretty easy to assume, just a new equip between each battle.

Sorry if the notes aren't great, I'm really tired of translating since tomato rice is my 3rd translation and really what I want to finish(and puwexil states he's doing the same thing) is a more concrete guide really mapping out the best strats with full out boss guides and everything.

Also, I don't have the final equip screen translated, but it's easy to do yourself, just un-equip most everyone and re-equip a few things and equip Freya with Auto-Reflect.
I've got Disc 2 captured, I had to redo Disc 1 also since I made the file too big. I just need to find somewhere to upload them since youtube is not great for watching runs that you need to translate.
