Please refer to the Verification Guidelines before posting. Verifications are due by Oct. 19, 2014.

Please post your opinions about the run and be certain to conclude your post with a verdict (Accept/Reject). This is not a contest where the majority wins - I will judge each verification on its content. Please keep your verification brief unless you have a good reason otherwise.

After 2 weeks I will read all of the verifications and move this thread to the main verification board and post my verdict.

Professional Shaq Fu Speedrunner
A/V: Looks great. No cheating detected here.

There is a major route change that was implemented since the last submission and it skips a lot of the grinding on the Guardian of the Flame. The battle against Phoenix was incredibly close, and even the runner hesitated before just throwing caution to the wind and attacking for the final hit while in critical health. I would have liked to have seen not even considering healing and just going for the attack, as missing isn't the likeliest of things here. Overall though, one of the biggest complaints me and Crow had in the previous submission was the menuing. And I am very happy to say its improved some. Is it perfect? No it isn't. It could still be improved further with some more practice. However the main thing is that the runner took our main complaints and went back and answered them by fixing the problems.

I'll echo the use of books that Crow mentioned here though. The runner didn't really use the spell books much in the previous submission that was rejected... and I'm honestly thinking that the usage here may be a bit of an overreaction to our comments. I do like that he took our words to heart though, better usage of the random items they got. That part is very much better here in this run. Is this also still improvable? Absolutely.

This run uses In Game Time, since it's an accurate timer. The runner managed to improve the previously rejected run by 0:24:43. That's a fairly impressive chunk of time. I am convinced that another 15 minutes could come off with some tighter menuing and better execution (assuming the runner got the same RNG as in this run). However with all the improvements to the route and the improved execution, especially considering how RNG heavy this game is, I am more than happy to give this run an accept.

There is still some safe play here, since the route change makes the run quite a bit harder. I highly encourage the runner to keep trying for a lower time. I would like to see riskier play in a future submission, as I'm very interested to see how low this game can go.

Verdict: Accept
What's that gemma?
A/V: Beautiful.

Cheating: none.

I had recommended a reject of the runner's previous submission, and I helped out a little bit with the rerouting necessary to improve it.  I am happy to report that the runner's additional efforts have paid off.  All my major complaints with the previous run have been answered, and I'm unable to find any new major issues to replace them.

There are a few lesser strategy errors that he habitually engages in - most notably, selling Phoenix Downs in order to buy Hi-Potions, and retreating a square instead of immediately casting Holy / Dia on targets that are diagonally across a corner (ranged attacks can hit that way, though physical attacks cannot).  I also think that he was much too desperate to acquire money, doing super slow money savers such as equipping a cursed item to dispel it and sell it.  It might be possible to cut the final upgrade of the talon altogether - he only deals like 10 damage with basic attacks even with it.  Speaking of low damage, there were a few cases near the end of the game where he used books and was clearly surprised by the damage being less than what he expected; books are great in the early game but not so much later on.

Execution-wise, there's a lot of time to be saved in menuing.  Some of this is to be expected in a 5 hour long ordeal, but there's definitely room for improvement; for example, there are a lot of cases where he goes through his item menu not long before reaching a shop to sell items, and yet still takes a long time deciding what he can and can't part with once at the store.

Still, this run is good.  The execution and planning meet the level of refinement that I expect for a run on this site.  It can certainly be better, and I encourage the runner to keep going; I expect 10 minutes could be chopped simply by being on point with quicker menu decisions one day, and in a game with this many options available there's always going to be more strategy improvements to be found here and there.

ACCEPT.
Decision posted.
