I hate to say it, but your route is soooo much better than mine ... and I thought I had done such a good job ... xD

I still haven't even gotten to Raem yet, still practicing all them clean boss fights, so I can skip picking up cure or food and save PDs
The route that wasshu uses gets 1 Mythril in Mushroom Forest cycle 2 and farms more Mythril in Mine of Cathuriges cycle 2 (I think you can get up to 3 there from treasure chests). He then forges the Master's Weapon, Mythril Armor, and Iron/Mythril Belt in Year 3.

A few criticisms for Michel's route:

1. I would highly suggest picking Rancher as father's occupation instead of Merchant. You don't actually need anything that your father sells you that you can't pick up from Marr's Pass. Rancher, on the other hand, gives you lots and lots of Meat, and Meat saves a lot of time overall because it gives +2 str (which very often can tide you over to doing 1 more damage per hit). If you're doing something like 2 HP damage per swing against a boss, using a Meat in some battles will make the battle go 50% faster.

2. If you're a Selkie or a Clavat, and unless you're picking up +def artifacts, I would not suggest actively looking for a Mythril Shield or Belt. Just use Iron. Clavat and Selkie respectively should have 41 and 40 def going into Mt. Vellenge with Mythril Armor and Iron Shield/Belt equipped. Mythril Shield/Belt is +3 def compared to Iron. Unless you can raise your def stat to 45, you actually won't take any less damage. You're just going to end up wasting time farming for money. If you can get a Mythril Shield/Belt, that's a nice bonus, I guess. But expect to settle for Iron.

3. You absolutely must pick up a +str artifact in RBP cycle 1 instead of the Moogle Pocket. Your two different documents seem to contradict each other on this one.

The sum-ups are not up-to-date, I pick up the +str artefact.

I pick up merchant because I buy alloy at year 4 and sell stuff for the masters weapon.

I went in with 50 def (last time I got Raem down), so I might drop it by 5, could check out the iron shield indeed cheers.

Also, at what point do your hits do more then 1 damage on the Remiroa? Will try to update my notes today and get a full run in Smiley

Edit: though I think the most time I can save right of now is just practise and actually not suck at the game and hitting multiple mobs with my charges.
Currently doing the Raem blindspot technique with Blizzara and picking up the blizzard ring from Veo Lu Sluice, as if I do a soulshot towards the boss with my runeblade it needs perfect timing or my hitbox changes slightly and I get hit.
Edit2: I'm at 60 strenght if I pick up all the strenght arts in mount vellenge, and seeing a significant dmg increase on the meteor parasite.

Why not just buy Alloy and sell stuff in Year 3 instead at Marr's Pass?

You're kind of losing out on a bunch of time if you can't get Meat/Fish for free because either your boss battles will go much slower or you have to kill enemies for Meat/Fish.

IIRC you can survive all of MP's and Raem's attacks with only 40 def (don't quote me on that; Ghoul02 might know for sure since it's been awhile since my last MP/Raem test) with the exception of repeated gatling gun hits on form 3. Memiroa's beam and explosion attacks will kill you on one hit, though. But in that case, just use Phoenix Downs.

The Memiroa's white beam I believe 1shots you below 45 def, and its really (really!) hard to dodge, so atm I prefer not to do yolostrats, atm its just that the final fight took me about 20min even after gathering about 25 ???'s and then blowing them all up in his down fase (could spread the ???'s out to just get invulnerability procs and hit him).

But after working out and testing some mount vellenge, I now want to focus on getting there.

and I don't have enough items in year 3 for alloy, perhaps I should go for mushroom first and sell the mythril from there? no clue yet.
I'll start optimizing my route once I finished it because as of right now I have no meat troubles (except perhaps for mount vellenge, as I could use a meat charges on Memiroa).
Did a deadless (without phoenix downs) Mt. Vellenge run yesterday, went really smoothly, and this morning I did all 3 phases of MParasite within 8min, so heres to finishing a run :).

edit: Will anyone be streaming today? I want to see it in live action :D.
Edit: Now that I see it in Ghoul's Vod, the white laser always brings you down to 1 hp? that makes things a lot different.

Congrats on the MT run, my first time there took about 40 minutes, just the parasite xD !

also you can get alloy from Moschet Manor year two.

I might be streaming some later, but I don't think it will be very interesting to watch since I won't actually be doing a run, just running around trying to figure out stuff and practice. :p

Edit: Question! How is Master's weapon for Clavat ? Might try it out but I don't want it be like the Dragon Lance, too damn slow!
Edit history:
Michel: 2013-08-05 05:09:36 am
I like it, its really good for the Meteor Parasite. it works like the dual shooter but instead of 2x 20 does a 35. Its slower then the dual shooter but on about the same speed as the butterfly (for selkies), haven't really went far with Lilty so I have no clue how the dragon lance plays.
It also has a really long range and the projectile you shoot is quite big so you barely miss it (can even hit multiple monsters).

3 hit combo for dps rounds, and abusing the ranged attack from the master weapon.
I had this silly thing though as where I stood on the blind spot at Raem and I was not getting hit, only to start casting and suddenly getting hit. No clue if I was just unlucky or bad positioning but will try that out aswell (so many things to try out!).

You should have enough items in Year 3 for Alloy. If you do the Mushroom Forest -> Mine of Cathuriges route in Year 3, you should be able to pick up ~3 Mythril, of which you only need 2. If you hunt for Worm Antennae or Iron in Tida, you should have a fair amount of money to complete your forges in Year 3.

I would strongly discourage going to Moschet Manor. Ghoul02 timed it to be 2 minutes slower than skipping Moschet Manor and going to Veo Lu Sluice, and when I timed it, it was on average about 1-1.5 minutes slower.

Lastly, Clavat's Master's Weapon is probably weaker than the Dual Shooter when it comes to the focus attack. Multi-hit FAs are so good. The Soulshot FA does your base damage +7 HP damage per hit (since it adds 35 to your str). The Dual Shot FA does your base damage +4 HP damage per hit.

Well, we still want to see your MP strat that apparently trivializes the fight.
I'm sure the strat I'm using on MP is just like what the rest of you are doing, just stay in the middle where the adds don't aggro and just back and forth from there, it's really just the last part that takes time for me, because the stupid Dragon lance doesn't hit the boss unless you time it right ... and that's pretty much impossible in my opinion :p

Form 3 is what Ghoul02 and I are curious about, because the last time I saw him try it, he ended up using almost all of his Meat and Phoenix Downs.

I never got around to experimenting that much with blind spots or easy AI manipulation on form 3, so I don't know any good strategies for it, either.

I wish I had a capture card so I could show you guys, because the trick that I'm using right now is working flawlessly for me atm if you get the rythm right (you can't just stand still like in the Raem fight)

Although if anyone has a lvl 5 mount vellenge save file for emulators and if they could send it to me I guess I could record it that way.

Think I'm done with MP, it's kinda easy now when you've found those blind spots ... But now I'm totally stuck on Raem, I just can't find the blind spot while killing off those adds that he loves to re-summon as soon as you've killed them and dodging his magic hell balls.

Any tips would help alot, because this is starting to look like a constant clusterF to me :p

Edit: Okay nevermind I just found it and everything is just fine now xD just to figure out how to fight Memiroa or Mio-Raem, whatever !
Memiroa actually doesn't look that difficult if you can avoid his explosion attack when he's floating up in the air. The explosion is an OHKO if you have 6 hearts and 40 def.
I think I'll finally have access to my Wii for 2 weeks or so, so I can get a few splits timed.
Hello,

I've been using this thread along with Wasshu/nanaka's notes as a resource as I've routed/learned this game and now I'd like to give back to the community. This is the info that I can offer:

I have done multiple attempts and my current PB is 2:29:xx with some good luck using the Japanese RTA route although I lost about 10 minutes to getting no Worm Antenna in Year 2. This puts me 20 minutes behind the current WR by nanaka. I currently have no fast way to deal with Meteor Parasite phase 3 so I use a safe strat I developed which ensures I do not die assuming I don't mess it up. if you have at least one Phoenix Down Raem is the easiest boss in the game due to poor AI programming. One of my viewers on Twitch, Drixiss, discovered that if you kill the red minion and then die in the top right of the area the blue minion will not aggro you upon resurrection. You then just manipulate Raem's attacks by standing a specific distance from him so he attempts to stab you with his wings, run towards him to dodge, then attack. The important thing to remember is to not go towards the middle of the area or else the blue minion will notice you. Memiroa's white beam will one shot you unless you have 45 defense and 6 hearts minimum, otherwise he is not particularly difficult with a little practice aside from RNG to get enough invincibility. A selkie with the master's weapon and 50 strength will kill him in 13~14 focus attacks and needs 2 invincibility ultimite. I would link my run but I didn't feel that it was worth highlighting and it seems Twitch deleted the recording, so I am going to highlight the next run I get that is sub 2:30:00 and I will post it here since this game is severely lacking in video resources.

Sorry about the wall of text in advance and I hope this helps anyone looking to run this game. I would be happy to answer any questions that I can.
Just to confirm, wasshu and nanaka refer to the same person?

Do you have any thoughts as to how wasshu's route can be improved?
Wasshu has the 3rd(I think) best time, nanaka is a completely different person. As for Wasshu's route its hard for me to look for things to improve with no full video of the run. A lot of time comes from drop luck unfortunately. All my runs die on Year 1 or 3 if I don't get exactly what I need or close to it :(. I do no reset runs for practice though.
Where are nanaka's notes? I haven't been able (read: tried hard enough) to find them.
I'll post them when I am at home, I don't remember them off the top of my head. I am working on translating them and adding more detail as they are just a simple outline of the route.
That's fine; I don't need a translated version, though.
These are nanaka's notes: http://ch.nicovideo.jp/nanakarta/blomaga/ar284793

Wasshu's walkthrough for Clavats years 1-3: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm19211721

I have no idea why he didn't include year 4 and 5....
The Clavat runner's nico username is kotonbi (unless you're telling me that he and wasshu are the same person). Thanks for nanaka's notes. They look pretty similar to wasshu's route.

I came up with a couple of useful minor optimizations for Year 1. The item route is useful for everyone but the enemy strats are probably only useful for Selkie runners.

River Belle Path:
- If you use the oil pot -> Fire strat against the second Goblin with the key (which means you get Fire), it's slightly faster to kill the Goblin Chief that drops the Bronze by casting Fire on him, then whacking him 4 times with the standard attack. (If you used the FA for the first attack instead, it takes another FA plus 2 hits to kill).

Mushroom Forest:
- Assuming that you got the Moogle Pocket from RBP, queue up Meat, Fish, Fish in the 3 open command slots at the beginning of the map (this will last you through Year 1).
- When fighting the Ahriman that drops Iron, have Mog drop the chalice so that he doesn't get tired halfway through the map.
- After getting the +str artifact, but before killing the second Hedgehog Pie that drops a Gold/Silver, use a Meat/Fish. This brings the remainder of the enemies on the map into KO range of a 3-hit combo (whereas you have to 4-hit them or FA + hit otherwise).

Mine of Cathuriges:
- With the Warrior's Weapon, against the ogre that drops the key, you can FA + hit, retreat, then repeat for the kill. This saves like a half second at best, but it looks cleaner. It's also probably a little faster to lure the ogre closer to the key pedestal before killing it.

WRT items, we're looking to get 850 gil after Mushroom Forest. We start with 300 gil plus 25 gil of items that we can sell (a Striped Apple, a Fish, and a Spring Water). Since this first part of the game is probably around like 12 minutes in at best, we can go for a slightly riskier item route.

River Belle Path:
- A Goblin Chief near a treasure chest drops Bronze 100% (75 gil)

Mushroom Forest:
- A treasure chest near the starting point is along the way and yields 30-40 gil
- The Ahriman right after the bouncy mushroom drops Iron 100%
- The first, third, and fourth Hedgehog Pies in the map drop either G/S (125 gil), Crystal Ball (25 gil), or nothing
- The last 3 enemies in the map and a Hell Plant later on drop either Bronze (75 gil) or a design (~15-25 gil)
- Another Hell Plant late in the map drops a Fruit Seed (25 gil) that really only costs maybe 2 seconds to get

Marr's Pass has a Wheat Seed (25 gil).

Basically you're guaranteed an Iron and 400/850 gil before Mushroom Forest. For the remaining 450 gil, you need 2 Gold/Silver drops from Mushroom Forest and a Bronze drop. If you only get 1 Gold/Silver drop, you need at least a second Bronze drop plus either a third Bronze drop or at least some Crystal Balls (you might also need to sell Phoenix Downs). G/S don't actually drop incredibly often and I had to abandon 3 runs before I finally got a successful one.

I'm taking this one year at a time because I'm still rusty, but I feel like I got a pretty solid Year 1 with 0:19 on the game clock after leaving Tipa on Year 2. My menu work wasn't so tight early on and I fudged a bunch of 3-hit combos, so 0:18 in-game is probably the time to aim for.
I just had my info all jumbled up about the Clavat videos and I apologize for the erroneous info, but at any rate I managed to PB last night with a 2:24:56 so here is the video: http://www.twitch.tv/wuqinglong/c/2713151

One interesting to note about the JP version of the game is that stat bonuses from food last between screens and entire dungeons as well. The Fish/Meat that I use on the giant crab lasts me through Mushroom Forest and if I get good boss RNG it can almost last through the entire Marlboro fight as well. I don't kill the large Goblin with bronze because even though it will cause more runs to die the ones that don't are quite a bit faster. The run I linked was meant to be a little derusting so the play is super sloppy but really good item RNG saved it. It should at least be useful as a video of a full route, it may be the only one on the internet come to think of it.

I thought I noticed that too, but it's good to know that that's a version difference. I know for a fact that food bonuses don't carry over in the English version.

Good point. I'll exclude that from my route.
