Don't know what to speedrun :(
Yeah I suppose technically if I was to luck manipulate OHKO's I could save 30-45 seconds per Kotetsu but trying to stack an OHKO on top of a Kotetsu drop is TAS territory. Hell you would have to be a really patient TAS'er to even attempt that lol. The safe pull takes about 15 seconds and a normal fight takes another 15-20 so it's not than long. I'm just going to do it the way that will help maintain my sanity.

There's going to be enough luck manipulation in this run already. No need to make it artificially worse Smiley

Make it so.
So you don't fancy luck manipulating OHKO's on every enemy not resistant to death then? Tongue

That would only be the most boring run to watch in history!

Just to confirm, I did the same test you did on Dustia/Jellies for LP and got pretty similar results, I also did a small test on Ba'Gamnan with the conclusion that it's not worth it, I clocked it in at around 6LP per minute, with no experience etc.

EDIT: To clarify, that's taking into account the setup time of getting one of them to low health etc which you dont have to do with Dustia or the Jellies.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Thanks for the verification Tiberius. I did note that my tests did not include any set up time and were "ideal" tests but still if we double or triple your LP/min to factor out the setup it's still not worth it due to no exp/loot and being slower than jellies.
Yeah, the chances of insta-killing and getting a rare drop at the same time are pretty bad. Probably worse than the rare steal from Dustia. Well, I'm almost out of ideas. Maybe picking up Hastega Motes along the way, or, at least until you can buy Hermes Sandals? Nihopalaoa isn't worth getting through the Bazaar, as it would probably take 1/2 hour to farm all the items for it. There's also the issue of LP, and I think the Remedy Lores are needed for them inflict all the statuses. It's useless against most of the remaining bosses, anyway. I think someone already mentioned it, but there's the Traveler technick, which probably wouldn't save much time. And are you using the Berserk spell, or Bacchus's Wine? I think the wine is faster, but it might have a lower chance of landing...

Reguarding Hastega Motes: There's only two chests you can get them from, before Diamond Armlet: one is in Westersand (where Lindbur Wolf spawns), the other is in Henne Mines (but nowhere near the crystal). However, there's an incredibly good chest in Draklor for farming them (in the room next to the crystal).

Hastega Motes and Hermes Sandals would be nice but I don't think it's worth either. There's no way I could get enough to not need to License Haste and Haste doesn't take that long to cast so I'll just use it when I can get away with it and not spend the time trying to farm Motes. The reflectga motes are worth it because they are on the way anyway and the save me from having to license it. The same wouldn't be true for Hastega Motes.

You can't get Traveler until pretty late in the game so it's really not that useful especially once you get Fomalhaut. Certainly not worth trying to manipulate the 990-999 step count to make it useful.

I'm going to use the Berserk spell.

I'm actually going to get a couple of the Remedy Lore items so I can just do a Ally: Any > Remedy gambit and save some gambit slots. I'll still set specific ones for blind and maybe a couple others to save Remedies.

EDIT: Oh man I just did the First Ascent and boy was it obnoxious :/ I can tell that this is going to be a sucky part of the run to make.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Actually, you can get Traveler pretty early in Rabanastre.  I think you can get it after Mimic Queen.  Assuming that you can spare the 7000 gold, I think it is worth trying.  You would be able to use it on only a fraction of bosses - your step count would need to be 700+ for it to be worth manipulating the 990-999 - but dealing 99x0 damage will save significant seconds early on.  Not huge savings, more of an "every little bit counts" sort of thing.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Ah interesting I guess I never went back and checked Rabanastre. Still I don't think it's worth it. The early bosses go down pretty quick with the Kotetsu and 7000 is quite a bit of gil. Plus I would have to do some heavy step manipulation to get it to work which is a total pain in the ass.

Some time soon I might load up that save in my practice run and see how much time it would save but it would have to be pretty significant to be worth doing I think.
Make it so.
Just info wise: you can get it in Rabanastre after the Leviathan not the Mimic Queen, and it costs 6700 gil.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Hmm. I'm not sure it's worth it then. The soonest I could get it without going out of my way is before heading to Jahara. At that point even if I got 9999 dmg it's still not going to make a significant difference in boss fights. I only really wanted it for Mandragora's anyway but with Fomalhaut's that fight is a joke. I suppose it could make a little bit of a difference if I was really willing to manipulate the x10 damage but I don't think I am. It would only save me 3 rounds of attacks each boss fight, so about 15 seconds, at the expense of a hell of a lot of step manipulation.
I could have sworn that the very first time you use Traveler, it does damage equal to total number of steps, without applying the formula...
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Not that I'm aware of. It just does the step count thing that rolls over at 1000.

Essentia, I'm curious if getting windslicer shot is worth it. I figure it will take me 2 minutes to get. Do you have any idea if it could possibly save that much time? I kind of doubt it.
Everything's better with Magitek
Windslicer shot probably wouldn't end up saving 2 minutes, so it would only be worth it if you could get it on the way to something else (for example, get it and another type of shot in the same segment).
Don't know what to speedrun :(
It's not. I looked at the map. I'd have to run in the opposite direction to get it which is why I estimate it will cost 2 minutes. I could pick up Mud shot on the way to Balfonhiem for the amount of time it costs to open a chest if that would be worth it.
Everything's better with Magitek
In that case, Windslicer probably wouldn't be worth it. I can only recall one boss that was weak to it, anyway.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Arg the Fomalhaut portion of my run is going to suck hardcore. I'll need to manipulate 3 fomalhaut and then on the way to Balfonhiem pull a Holy mote AND mud shot in the same segment. Fortunately those last two don't need the diamond armlet but they still have like a 20% chance each :/
Don't know what to speedrun :(
I'm now ascending the Pharos at Ridorana in my second test run. Getting close to the end so I think I've got my run plan stabalized enough to have people look at it. Please take a look and let me know if you see any issues:

Some quick comments:

"Kill man so he doesn't distract the next fight." I assume you're talking about the tutorial fight.  This doesn't seem worth it to me.  How can he distract you?  Even if he hits you in the back, you just keep fighting the Remora.

I don't know about getting every chest on the return to Rabanastre,  it seems better to pick and choose those that have high reward.

Dustia levelling to 300LP - that's quite a lot.  Is that to equip the Kotetsu's?

Is Float actually worth getting on a speed run?  You can avoid any traps without it.

I wonder if the airship to Nalbina can be avoided, seems like it would add quite a bit of time.

Get Hunt ? ? ?  What is the hunt for?

It seems a little weird I'm sure but I'll be on the fastest battle speed so if I just wait until I hit him and the run past the other men in my group will kill him in one round. So if I pause for literally 1 or 2 seconds before triggering Remora he won't be there wasting the attack rounds of my allies. He is going to die either way so it's faster to kill him before Remora.

Quote from Deedlit:

I mean any chest I don't have to go more than a few seconds out of my way to get. I'm not going to go to another map or in a very wrong direction for one more PD.

Quote from Deedlit:

Actually that's how many LP I need to farm to be able to have Fira for everyone by Jellies. On my practice run my first round of jelly farming was stuipid slow so I need to avoid that. Dustia is probably some of the best LP/min I can get before Jellies and it's also the most exp/min in the game at that level so I'm going to spend a little extra time there to make jellies go better. I had 200 LP by the time I got done this practice run so it's only 33 more Dustia kills.

Quote from Deedlit:

It doesn't cost much time and it means I don't have to go out of my way to avoid them. Also you use it for one of the boss fights to avoid Quakeja. I suppose if there is a convenient float mote I might do that instead but a lot of the traps near the end of the game are almost instant death and if any party member walks over it it goes off.

Quote from Deedlit:
I wonder if the airship to Nalbina can be avoided, seems like it would add quite a bit of time.
It can't. I could go to Nalbina instead of the hunters camp after Barhiem Passage to activate the warp crystal there but I have to ride an airship at some point to get the Gyshal Greens.

Quote from Deedlit:
Get Hunt ? ? ?  What is the hunt for?
It gives you a key to open the door in Sochen Cave Palace which let's you into the Mandragora fight and later through to Archedes.
Everything's better with Magitek

Jellies can drop float motes, so you should get plenty of them during Jelly farming and not ever need to use the float spell.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Ah good point. Ok then I'll cross that off the list. I think I sold mine in the practice run but I won't in the live one.
Quote from Youkai:
I mean any chest I don't have to go more than a few seconds out of my way to get. I'm not going to go to another map or in a very wrong direction for one more PD.

The chests in Westersand give a lot more money. Instant 1000 Gil where Linbur Wolf spawns, if you want to manipulate 2 chests before grinding on Dustia. All the other chests, in that first zone, can give over 100 Gil (one of them can also give a PD). There's also the Small Package you can get from a Bangaa, before doing Rogue Tomato. That sells for 150.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
The thing is I need the money for the first round of Dustia farming i.e. to buy PD's in Rabanastre. I will get loot from Dustia for after that. So the only time I could try to manipulate those is before Rogue Tomato and I don't think it's worth it then.
You could try stealing, then.

Estersand:
-Pointy Hats can be stolen from Wolves, they sell for 150.
-Broadswords can be stolen from Cactites, they sell for 200.

Giza:
-Leather Breastplates can be stolen from Wild Snakes, they sell for 150.
-Your best bet is to try stealing from the Werewolves, since you go through that zone twice for the Sunstone sidequest, anyway. Quality Hides are the common steal, too. They sell for 384.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
I don't know if it's worth stealing from the Estersand. I'm not going to do it because it will be really late in the segment and cost me damage which can get pretty close on the Tomato.

I plan on stealing two quality hides during the Sunstone part and manipulating at one Escutcheon from the chest there. Other than that I might have Vaan steal from some random stuff after the save if I can manage it.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Ok just got done with Cid/Famfrit. OMFG how is that not the final boss . . . That fight is crazy. I had to use some really heavy luck manipulation, quicksaves, and about 3 different strategies to finally eek out a win; oh and a 14 quickening chain after Famfrit which left Cid with about 3 attack rounds of health. Granted I didn't have Viking Coats but still it was brutal. I think I'm going to have to hold on to my Gokku pole and see if they do better on Cid after Famfrit than the Fomalhaut does. I went through 50 XPotions on the fight too; crazy.

Also Essentia I don't know if you ever tested it or not after you put the comment in your test run video but Reflect+Firaga works on Famfrit. I'm going to farm two reflectga motes which are going to be used on Slyt and Famfrit. I think I'm going to stick with just using Penelo and Balthier to Reflect+Fira for Garuda.
