It's something like an extra .2 seconds on his gun animation. Most party members just shoot. He throw the gun out, shoots, and pulls it back. His sword animation is fine, though. Penelo's gun animation is slow too, I recall someone saying.

New one for you: Quickening Chain in the Gabranth battle, before he casts Renew. Or just keep him stalled somehow, 3 Fomalhaut's take him down quickly.

Hmm. I'll have to look a that.

I think I might end up using a quickening chain on the Mandragoras. If i can get a quick Inferno or Torrent with them all grouped together that should take a decent amount off of them and make it go a little quicker. I'll have to test that. Also do you know if they can all use that sleep pollen crap or just certain ones? I used a chain on the prince to kill him because he kept sleeping everyone but then the queen did it to me as well.

I'm realizing how rusty my knowledge of FFXII is. What's the earliest you can get to Cerobi Steppe? I was thinking you could go there before fighting the Mandragoras, but I could be wrong.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
There is rubble across the way to Cerobi. The earliest has to be after Old Archades.
The rubble can be crossed with a chocobo from phon coast.

Really? I need to test that then. I wonder if it's worth it though because I have to go to Tchita to get a diamond armlet so I'd have to walk back for the chocobo.

It would save me some money though and I could go to Balfoem to warp back to Tchita and possibly get some better armor early. I'll test it out.
Yeah, you can use the chocobo to get across (there's a couple vids on YouTube) but entry into Balthofiem (or whatever it's called) is blocked. You can use the warp crystal there, however, so it's very easy to get back.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Ok I got there and saved in the Steppe so it's definitely possible. I don't have time to manipulate the Fomahault's right now though so that will have to wait. We will see when I'm done if they help significantly on Mandragoras if so that might save me some time and a gun purchase in Phon Coast. I still think I might want to get the one in Bur-Omicase but I'll have to test that on my next practice playthrough.

Oh good, I wasn't wrong about getting into Cerobi Steppe early. I remember other treasures I'd considered getting in Cerobi Steppe were Holy Motes (for delaying perfect defense on Pandaemonium and possibly Quakeja on Hashmal), and Mud, Windslicer, and/or Stone Shot (to increase Fomalhaut damage and take advantage of elemental weaknesses).

If you haven't already seen this site, be sure to take a look at it:
http://ff12maps.com/

It shows the contents and percentages of every chest, and I used it a lot in planning my run.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Yeah, I'm using that. There is actually a closer Fomahault than the one you got. So I'm going to that one and there is a Dark Shot chest within steps of it. So my plan is to try for the Fomahault then if that fails go for the Dark Shot and save if I get either.

Did a little testing on lunch and got one Fomahault. I'm thinking I'm going to do Fomahault as soon as possible i.e. soon as I get to Tchita uplands and get a Diamond Armlet. I have to spend the time at some point and it seems that Fomahault does about twice the damage of the best gun I can buy at that time.
Everything's better with Magitek
I would definitely recommend getting the Fomalhauts as soon as possible; I seem to recall that they helped a lot with the Mandragoras. And yeah, I forgot to mention that there's a closer Fomalhaut chest than the one I used (which unfortunately I didn't realize until after I'd gotten 3 of them).

I've gotten far enough in the game that I think the rest is pretty straightforward. Almost all the choices to be made are made before Mandragoras. So everything after Mandragoras is just notes I took from Essentias test run. Everything before that is notes from my first test run.

My first test run was pretty bad and full of mistakes and misspent LP. I'm going to be starting over now on a new test run and I'll revise my notes and complete them a little better. Also the saves in the notes are not set. There are probably some missing saves and I'm sure a few in there that I won't actually do.

Anyway if you want you can take a look at my first draft and see if you notice any huge errors. It's probably not worth noting errors in the part I haven't gotten to yet because I haven't verified those notes yet.
When I clicked to view your draft for your run, I couldn't help but laugh because you misspelled Basch, but that's ok because I found this:

LOL

Now I feel like playing some FFXII again, IZJS of course. Maybe I'll stream it in a while.
Not getting Nihopalaoa? Also- the chest near Antlion has a lot better % for Fomalaut, and you don't even need Diamond Armlet to get it. Figured if you're willing to get Niho, then Fomalhaut would be much easier, since you have to do hunts to unlock Antlion's hunt anyway. Seems like the only other things in Cerobi Steppe you want to get are ammo, and it doesn't look like you'll be using Diamond Armlet to get anything else. Another thing you might want look into is the Back to Barhiem sidequest, as you can get Celebrant's Miter and Dragon Mail from chests. There's also strong undead enemies there, but I don't know if they'd give more Exp than Jelly farming.

I wasn't planning on it because I have to open the clan shop in the bazzar to get it. I haven't actually tested it what do you have to do to open the shop? Just go talk to the guild master?

Antlion isn't available without doing more hunts but I didn't check to see how many you have to do or if they can be done on the way to things I'm doing already. I highly suspect it wouldn't be worth it time wise. Do you happen to know what you have to do to unlock Antlion?

Tempting but unless I'm doing Antlion I don't think it could possibly be worth it since it seems you have to do a couple hunts to unlock this quest.

Overall I don't see how getting the easier Fomalhaut could possibly be faster. Do you think I'm wrong? I'll look into it if someone has reason to believe it might be faster than obtaining the Diamond Armlet and 3 Fomalhauts from the Steppe. Note that acquiring Fomalhaut from the close chest takes under 2 minutes. The armlet and running might cost 10. So the hunts to unlock and gathering 3 from the easy chest needs to total less than 20 minutes for it to be worth even testing.

EDIT: Just found this. Seems you need to kill 10 marks to open the Nihopalaoa in the clan bazzar. Definitely not doing that. http://www.genieshouse.com/ff12ranks.asp
EDIT AGAIN: And this. I really should have researched before I posted. Anyway not doing Antlion either. I don't see how it could possibly be faster. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/459841-final-fantasy-xii/50386762

Well, I was going to answer, but then you did that for me.

I highly doubt that you can get the Diamond Armlet in 8 minutes... oh right, this is a savestate run. Nevermind then. Well, if you're going to Cerobi, then maybe you want to bring Assassin's Daggers and grind on Shield Wyrm. You can also take them down real fast with Sight Unseeing. They give ~10k Exp. I bet you could get around 30k Exp per minute for each character, with 3 active party members and Golden Armlets equipped. It's easy to respawn the one guarding the Fomalhaut chest:

Quote:

You only need to do one hunt for Back to Baheim. A few items need to be fetched, and the sidequest can only be completed after Raithwall. I guess it's kinda not worth it, now that I realize this isn't a single-segmented run.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Yeah it's a segmented run so I'll save at the teleport crystal where I get the mandragora hunt to activate the crystal then I'll run and get the armlet "first try" then I'll run to a chocobo and chocobo to the save in the Cerobi Steppe. Total time approx 5-6 min. Fomalhaut 2 min x3 for 6 min. Time to run to Balfohiem teleport crystal approx 5 min. Total estimated time to get 3 Fomalhaut between 10 and 15 min.

I will look into and see if it ends up being killer exp at the time I get there but I don't know if it will be worth spending the time to level on the wyrm even with such an easy/close reset. I didn't finish out my first playthrough once I got to Fomalhaut's but I don't think any dedicated leveling happens after LP farming. It would have to be really good exp and make the rest of the game much easier to be worth it at that point.

Thanks for your help and ideas!

Golden Armlet
I meant to say Embroidered Tippet. Sorry 'bout that.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Ok so I've got a question about LP farming. I'm there on my second test playthrough. I'm pretty sure I'll need to do Jelly farming at least one round for the money but I'm not totally happy with how long it takes.

I estimate you get about 10LP/min (without an armlet, i.e. you kill approx 10 enemies per min). Does anybody know of a place where you can indefinitely kill an enemy better than once every 6 seconds? It will probably need to be a three area circle and I don't care what drops or if I get an actual chain or not; I probably won't even bother picking up the loot. I would like the highest level area that I can kill one enemy every 5 or less seconds at level 30. If I could snag a little exp out of it as well that would be good but it might not be critical. Any ideas?
search on youtube for farming the bangaa's during the flight out of the mines in bujerba it might be what you are looking for.  it is what is used during low level runs though so it doesn't grant exp.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Unless I found videos that were different than yours that looks terribly slow :/ Lot's of zoning and I can't get Gold Amulet by then so it would actually have to be twice as fast as any other method to be viable. I don't know how much LP Ba'Gammnon gives but I doubt that you could average better than 1LP/5sec with that method at the time I will be there in my run.

It is pretty slow but it was the first thing I thought of for LP farming.  Would it be better to try chaining dustia a few more ttimes for some LP since he gives 3 for every kill?

Edit:  You could also look into Zertinan caverns where Addremalach is.  As long as the esper is alive the shambling corpses keep spawning iirc.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
Probably not I'd guess he takes about 15 seconds to cycle with the screen transitions so it's at best even with Jelly chaining. The important things to note about trying to find a faster method is that this will be replacing Jelly chaining so I'll be level 30 and have access to everything up to the Stillshrine. Also I don't want to do it until then so I can have Golden amulet which will double my LP. So far in the thread I've been talking about un-doubled numbers to keep it simple but you have to remember that if you suggest a method before where I am in the run it will have to be at least twice as fast to give me the same LP/min.

Yeah Adrammelech is an idea but he is level 39. I don't think I could survive in there long enough to get any benefit. Also those skele's are pretty strong aren't they? I don't think I could kill them fast enough to make it worth it.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Well, the bangaa's give 5 LP each kill,  so at 15 seconds a cycle that's a 20LP/min. So yeah, it's even with jelly chaining with golden armlets.

I don't think Adrammelech is a good LP place;  the skeletons in Lhusu mines would be better.
Don't know what to speedrun :(
I'm hoping someone knows of a good enemy dense area somewhere with three screens that make a loop so I can test to see if it would be faster to grind there for LP.
