OK, I found out that it is possible to do it.  So how do I do it.  I mean do I just go and find out the ID and not record that part.  Or do I save, go there, get the ID, reset, all while still recording?  Because if it's the latter, then I'll have to borrow my friend's PS1 since the PS2 makes the "Published by Square Electronic Arts L.L.C" screen flicker after a soft reset when not in battle because for some reason it doesn't load that part properly (it's not just mine, my friend's does the same).  It's weird...

You are free to go find the code while not recording.

Edit: Find examples with Majora's Mask as noted, and Diablo 2 with route exploration. Forward knowledge is fine.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Haven't played the game for a long time so i may be worng. But the level up isnt very important in this game, but having the right HP and ATTACK junction to powerfull magic The game shouldn't be too difficult at the end, for example finding a way to get 100 ultima, metoer, holy for everyone quickly. Refining probably. Will still be cool whatever Best FF EVER!
BOOM!!!!!

I think it has to do with the PS startup logo being progressive, while the actual game being interlaced, or something like that.

Ok, I realized that this run will be long.  So far in my first attempt, my time is 8:00 at the start of disc 3.  Though this is a slower run than the real one so I can probably shave off 30 minutes or so from that.  This is actually not too bad since the third disk is very short and the fourth is nothing.  This will be far shorter than most people initially thought the game would take.  Well, basically I just wanted to know, would this site accept a 10 hour run?

It generally depends on how optimized people feel your run is. Don't worry, at the very least somebody would accept your run, maybe sdkess, but at the very least archive because essentially they have no QC. What you should worry about more is, would people watch your 10 hour run? I know there's a market for everything, but for instance I can tell you right now in all honesty I wouldn't. Longer runs take more time investment to watch, it's just common sense.
BOOM!!!!!
i'd watch it.
Speedruns - 01
Though also the greatness of the game will have to do with this.

Noone would watch a 10hr speedrun of a game they hardly ever heard of, but Final Fantasy, and a 'modern' one, such as VIII, should be pretty wanted by, well, alot of ppl.
You can be sure I'll watch it. FF VIII is tha best one!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i'd watch it... i've never completed the game in under 25 hours, so i'd love to see how someone can just shave of over 60% of gametime..
MGS for PS1 forever.
If he get it under 10 hours than I'm sure the 14 hour speed through at gamefaqs.com would even watch it. Might piss 'im off too. I know I'd watch it.

Well, thanks for the support everyone.  The run will not dissapoint (except that most of the run is dialogue but I can't help that).  Coming up with all the possible combinations of learning abilities and knowing where and who to face when and keeping track of what GF will learn what at what point in the game was tough (and a pain).  This while not skrewing myself over with the final battle was pretty scary.  All I have to do now is finish up this test run, determine when to save, and then I will finally begin.  This run is also not too risky so it won't be based on luck (cause then it would just be resetting 'till whatever works and doesn't show good planning) and can be done in one long marathon...
Good Luck with all, I forgot to mention it before >_<
more keys then pablo escobar
i'll try
Right aorta
Although I would like to see this run, I don't think you could get it published on SDA, as I'm pretty sure Radix has a seven hour limit on any run. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, update on progress?

Ok, just got my test run at ultimacia's castle with 11:34...  I am very dissapointed and sad    :'(.  Even if I do the run perfectly next time I'll probably only take off about 40 or 50 minutes.  I thought the run would look great because I thought of very interesting strategies for a lot of the bosses but I realize that renzokuken just makes everything a lot faster and will make up 90% of all kills...  Battles make up probably less than 10% of the whole run.  I am also sad because my goal was under 10 hours but it's just not possible...  Any questions about the run are welcome but this looks to be a failed project...  Well, maybe it could become a beat Omega in 12 hours runthrough (without The End of cource)...  Hmm...  Now that I think about it, it sounds interesting.  I think that would be impressive  :).  Need more time to think about that...

I did however find out that the speed guide at game FAQs is OK for a normal guide, but not a speed guide.  Many of the things could be replaced with other strategies or just skipped completely.
MGS for PS1 forever.
Less than 12 hours is amazing...4 hours faster than the gamefaqs.com thing. I'm sure there are other things that could be done to make the time go down. You could release each segment and have us look over it...us FF fanatics and our fine-toothed combs to help you out with any extra strategies.

Something funny...one time I concentrated solely on Squall...and did all of the upgrades for him. On the final boss each time I was doing 100,000 or more...and she just didn't seem to want to die. Zell was in my party and because he wasn't upgraded he'd do like 50-100 damage or something like that. Anyway, during one of those "why won't she just die?" turns I figured what the hell and just had Zell do his little hit. Well, that did it. Stupid Zell.

Lol, I was gonna do that in my speed run!  It's actually because she's already dead but someone needs to damage her to make her talk.  It would have been funny as hell to see the final boss killed by 50 something damage.  I know there are a lot of FF fanatics out there that know a lot.  But trust me, I really know what I'm doing and there isn't something I could miss.  I've played the game too many damn times to and I've been testing and playing the game every day since I first posted...  I have a no level gain file that beat omega pretty easily (no heros or Lion Heart).  I can use that file to test face Omega to find an effective strategy using minimal supplies.  I'll start to talk more about the run once I actually start it.  Any tips or tricks are welcome and appreciated.

Oh and also, if I find this possible to be done.  I will only do it without heros or Lion Heart.  It would be a BOI12HWTEHHWOLH (beat Omega in 12 hours without The End heros holy wars or lion heart) speedrun...  Lol.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
heh... it's up to you what you do.. but i'm sure with a healthy discussion here, we could help bring that time down a bit... to sort of.. combine the expertise of those who like the game enough, but that don't have the dedication to speed run it :)... or you could atleast show/discuss what you did if the time is that good and can't be beaten :P...

one thing i was thinking about was zell's limit break... i don't know how it compares to using the lionheart.. but the amount of seconds you get seems to be fairly random, and if you just use the first two moves over and over ( the o-x one and the -> <- left.. err... 'punch rush' and 'booya' i think), then its possible to get about 8 or 9 moves in per second... usually killing a boss in one limit... but i don't know whether thats particularly 'fast', since although it only uses one turn, it takes a while to do...

i see alot of work for me on tis game...since i own it.. but never beat it... soooo it'll be fun...lol

well im thinking ima slowly run thru it my first time... perfect part by part....

any tips?

I use that all the time, but not during the runthrough since renzokuken is much faster.  If I do good I can usually get in 12 or 13 moves a second.  That with a good 12 seconds and 200 str is about 400,000 damage (Lion Heart got nothin' on this).  Three, four or five of them is enough (depending on my time).  More time comes more often with less hp/max hp ratio, more people dead, and more status effects.  This will definately be used against Omega since I think I'm going to have to kill him within the dreaded Terra Break, which at the worst case comes in as his fifth attack.  Omega has a speed that closely rivals a person juncioned with stop on their speed, but he's just a bit slower.

The reason I don't really want to talk about it is because I'm paranoid that some asshole will steal my ideas (yeah, probably a stupid reason) but hey I can't help it.  The normal run is too damn easy, but Omega will actually be a challenge.  My normal run was basically just to learn critical abilities as soon as possible, get quistis's card for tripples for first Edea battle for a needed extra 20 AP and for the rest of the game (actually a lot more complex than that).  I've only killed enemies in 2 nonmanditory battles to save time overall.  The normal run was just manditory stuff except the Quistis card and the 2 battles, no extras.  What abilities and what moves I need to learn now will have to change quite a bit.  The beginning won't change much but the latter will.  I just wish I could get an official OK just to see if I should even attempt this.  Well, I probably will do this anyway, but to see if I should record it.

Biggest tip of all is to avoid summons.  Building up a GF's affection to a good number takes a lot of time, since you basically have to summon over and over.  They're pretty strong at first but good juncions far outweigh their summons.  And only use offensive magic for juncions.  Experiment a little with it, it's fun.  When using juncions, think logically too.  Like curaga would be good for HP but not strength.  Opposites apply too, like meltdown inflicts vitality 0 but junctions the best to vitality, even better than ultima.  Hope this helps and good luck.  (Sorry, double post)
King of hearts
Ok, sorry for the triple post but I've just determined it is possible.  I've used my no level gain file, junctioned and used items I'd have in my speed run only.  Now I just need to know if this could be accepted by this site.  Is there someone I should ask or something I should do?
@darkwasabi  on superplay chronicles thers a one turn omega clear vid if you are interested. It uses meltdown, the "armaggedon fist" and lionheart. heres the url http://www.planetdreamcast.com/orochinagi/spc/
