I would be very interested in boss-fight runs. Im not into 10h runs with 7h+ of storyline tekst-talk. But seeing different strategys for bosses and the fastest times to get them down would be interesting. Anyone in on that? Or are there already recorded runs of boss fights on other sites? Anyone knows?

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
The other day I made a runthrough of this game for the hell of it. Right now I'm about to head into the temple and my time is at about eight and a half hours. There are a number of things I could have done better, because I really wasn't trying to get the absolute fastest time ever, so if I had done everything better, I could have slimmed off maybe an 1/2 hour to an hour. However, GarlandG had himself at 4:00 at this point so clearly I have much to improve on.

I want to do a recorded speed run of the game for SDA, and I want to do it on an emulator, because it's easier that way, but I hear alot of talking down about emulators. What's so bad about them? They make the process much easier in terms of save states and recording video. If emulators are used for NES and SNES games, why not PS games as well?

Edit: I just read the FAQ on this site, and the reason it gave for not using emulators is a pretty good one. That's fair, I'll just have to get something to allow me to record video. However, were all the speed runs I saw of Super Mario Bros 3 and stuff done without emulators? Cause that would be nuts.
Vino: The whole point of the site is that these are not Tool Assisted movies, so yes nothing here (meaning NES/SNES/anything else) has been done on an emulator.

check out bisquits site for emulated game playing.

That's fair.

Another question: obviously this run can't be done all in one video shoot. A couple of videos will need to be edited together. What's the policy on that? I saw nothing in the FAQ.

Edit: I've done some searching around the site, and I've gotten a pretty good idea of what a segment is. Videos are broken up into segments, which go from save to save. Sorry for all the noob questions.

OK

I went out last night and bought all the equipment to record my run, and this afternoon I ran the first two segments. I have videos, they are 2.3G and 6.8G uncompressed.

Question: Would SDA prefer them in divx format or can I compress them as binks? Pros and cons:

Divx:
- More people have it and like it
- con: Requires the player for those who don't have it already.

Bink:
- I like it.
- Much better quality at the same compression rate.
- Doesn't require a player -- has a self-playing executable.
- Is free with no watermarks.
- con: You can't control the movie, you can only play and pause.

I couldn't find any information about this on the site.

Those are both very bad.
divx for me cause if its 7-8 hour long, maybe i would liek to skip some stuff Smiley

Segments are only about a half hour long, but still, good point.

I don't see why a self-extracting executable is bad though, especially considering that those concerned about trojans and viruses can simply download the rad game tools player and play it from there.
Sleeping Terror
Well, I have my media player set up just the way I like it. If I'm watching a video, I want to watch it in my media player, not in some weird separate executable that probably won't act the way I want it to. And I certainly don't want to install a new media player.

Personally, I'm fine with anything that I can download a codec for (except RealMedia - they need to die). But I don't know how Radix feels.
What about linux and mac users? they can't watch bink.exe-files
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Sure they can, with wine. Bink works perfectly with wine, I know from experience. But don't worry about it, I'll do divx.

The reason I suggested bink was because at the same 100:1 compression ratio, in divx the words that people say and the numbers in battle were all almost too blurry to read, and with bink they were crystal clear and sharp. The low quality videos will benefit as well because they will be much smaller and probably still legible, but if I tried to make the divx version any smaller it would be totally incoherent and discombobulated (ooh big words!)

How about this, at great expense to myself, I'll upload both videos to my server, and SDA can choose which ones to distribute.
Let's fight to computer!
I would be astounded if Radix accepted anything other than Divx/Xvid.
DivX/XviD isn't the "best" codec out there and has never been. Nevertheless it is without doubt the only reasonable codec to use for a site like this. Bink? come on... sure it might kick xvid's ass but it's not even an option for SDA IMO. Drop it.
Vino: wheres a link to the first 2 segs? =P
Blue Mages will rule this world =)
Does he already started ??
Vino,Can you post your times for now ?
I'm looking forward to this run.
Speedruns 4-ever...
Are their any preview clips you could upload somewhere?

Cant wait to se the speedrun on this.....
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I totally intended on doing this run before my job started demanding twice as much work as usual Sad I never got past the first two sections, unfortunately, which is a shame. I suppose you'll just have to wait until GarlandG does it in February.
It's-a me, Raven!
A shame this topic died, really... I watched Advent Children this week, and my FF7 spark got re-kindled. I'm not much of a speedrunner myself (let alone that I even have the time or resources to do so), but I'd love to see ANY run online, really... Whether if it's four, fourteen, or forty hours.
i can do a run of fourty hour on ff7 ^-^
DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2. Am I crazy?
I´d like to see a vid of someone beating emerald and ruby weapon. I can´t do it so if anyone can, please do.
Eternal Understudy
A vid of someone beating Emerald or Ruby weapon would be kind of boring. Just watch KotR 20 times and you've seen everything. A vid of someone beating emerald and Ruby without KotR would be fun to watch.

I believe I posted strategies earlier in this thread for beating both Weapons without any hidden/ultimate/forbidden Materia, so try those out. Smiley

Note: If I forgot to mention, you can steal Dazers from some monster in the Ancients part of the game.
Sleeping Terror
There is a video around of Emerald beaten in a minute-something by some stupidly overpowered counterattack setup. I don't have a link, though.
bink is not good for this, you should do xvid.
