Taking a short speedrunning break with some FF5 action.
#random White Mage -> Thief -> Monk -> Black Mage
Looks like it's wind crystal only this time. The only trouble I've had thus far was Byblos and Sol Cannon. I ended up having to grind a couple extra levels for Byblos, who has a lineup of some seriously shitty abilities. Protect and an apparently massive evasion rate made it hell for my all-physical party, and if Dischord was used too early on one of my Monks, I'd just reset. Oh yeah, and getting combo'd by Drain. I could swear it used it like 4 times in a row once.
I'm pretty sure I got lucky on Sol Cannon. I couldn't figure out why this happened: In my second attempt at the battle, the two launchers seemed to disappear as soon as I started attacking the main cannon part. Guides are saying they have 10,000 HP. Does anyone know why this happened?
Anyways, I'm having a blast so far.
I have yet to find a guide or website that lists the soul cannon correctly. Everything lists total health, not effective health which is what really matters. The cannon has 22500(?) but it's actually half of that once everything explodes
Finished my normal run today http://www.twitch.tv/triggerlily/c/2446072 Would have posted the video of the final battle sooner but been sorting through some issues with something else.
Random run with Monk/Blue Mage/Time Mage/Mystic Knight, I haven't played this game in 15 years so it's basically blind, stream viewers say it's a good party and it's been relatively smooth sailing so far. Got to Galuf's castle so far.
Well, I got Monk as my Fire Crystal job (only Wind jobs so far!). Liquid Flame did not pose as much of a problem as I thought, but Byblos just kicked my ass. Bleh.
Well, that was a nice break from speedrunning. I think I'm good my RPG fix for a while. I was a bit underleveled for the final boss, but decided to give it a shot, and nailed it on the first attempt. The fight lasted an hour, definitely the hardest fight for my team since Byblos. It would not have been possible if it weren't for Shell, Blink, and Hermes' Sandals. My Thief had a Chicken Knife and !Focus, which decimated every other boss. Everybody else had !White and/or !Black, nuking everything and healing/buffing like crazy. Admittedly, I used a great deal of turbo throughout the rest of the game because I was so anxious to get through it. Still, I made sure every boss fight was done at normal speed and without savestates.
If it weren't for Black Mage as my last crystal, I'd be at this for a few more days I think. I might come back and do another run before it's over, maybe after SGDQ.
Well damn. I rolled Ranger as last class, so I've got White Mage, Knight, Monk and said Ranger. Seriously considering dropping some money so I can get a magical damage class. Byblos also was way too hard with the three earlier classes. Stupid level decreasing bullshit...
Beastmaster is very good in combination with Blue Mage. Without a Blue Mage, ehh... Calm/Tame is bugged. Catch can be quite useful during early/mid game, but towards late game, it becomes pretty useless.
That's actually quite untrue, alas you must either 1) spend lots of time experimenting or 2) have a FAQ handy to help you realize what is worth your time. They saved my butt several times late game, especially here: http://www.twitch.tv/revenantkioku/c/2461518
So I've just got Ranger as my third (natural rules) job, along with Thief and Red Mage. Question is, I don't remember how to find the Ranger job, or how early you can get it as I really want it asap as Thief/Red Mage/Freelancer/Freelancer sucks as a party. Any help?

You get Ranger and Bard a little time later when you get to the Chocobo Forest.
I got my last job last night, so now my party consists of white mage, red mage, bard, and dancer. I was hoping for a more reliable way of dealing physical damage than sword dance, but oh well.

Someone in my stream mentioned you got White, Red, Bard and I said "Well, that sounds tough, but she's good at Final Fantasys right? She'll be fine."
Fair point! Pretty much anything in the Fiesta is possible. Fun is another story all together.
I wasn't sure if that was true, but had to find out for sure. Sure enough, at least one person this year has finished a run w/ 3 berserkers. Wow.
Someone also beat Shinryu with White Mage and 3 Berserkers http://fourjobfiesta.com/players.php?player=SpoonyGundam The pic attached to it doesn't actually show Shinryu going down though. Just the inventory which is kinda disappointing
Finally started my run and got Monk/Red Mage/Bard for my first 3 - definitely liking the balance of physical/magical/support abilities that team has to offer.
World 2 Exdeath, the fight started going downhill after Condemn killed someone and he Dispelled immediately before. I still nearly managed to hang on and win, but sadly, I lost due to playing too offensively.
