There seems to be a segment missing between segments 15 and 16 in the FF3 run.  By my reasoning, the missing segment includes two battles, one of which was against two Tyranosaurs.

End of segment 15:
Levels 27/30/31
125/43/149 MP
10 Echo Screens (as seen in segment 14)
4:40
11019 steps

Beginning of segment 16:
Levels 29/32/32
110/8/131 MP
9 Echo Screens
4:42
11055 steps

This missing segment seems to fit the pattern of the other segments in that part of the game, and the MP use is precisely the cost of one Vanish/Doom combo along with 3 Cures between battles.

I hope the missing segment is merely missing on VHS somewhere, because I'd hate to see anything happen to this great run.

Hmm I checked the start and end times of the segments... how did I miss this.  Huh?

That would be bad.  It's entirely possible that I missed a segment...

I seem to remember that when it asks if you want to save, it shows you the file you'll be writing over.  (Not 100% sure, though.  I know it does in FF2, but I'm not sure about FF3).  Is it possible that you got the information for the end of segment 15 off of that screen (which would actually be the stats for the beginning of segment 15)?

I really hope that's the case.  I don't have access to the run at the moment, so I can't check it.  If somebody else could, that would be great.

Actually, based on the amount of information you give about the beginning and end of the segments, it looks like that's not the case.  Oh, well- it was a nice thought.

FF3 does indeed show the file you're saving over, including all the information I listed except for the number of Echo Screens.  However, the information I gave was for the end of segment 15, and not the file you saved over.  I triple-checked that before posting it here, and checked again right now.

For the record, the file saved over was level 26/29/31, 4:39, among other numbers.

Well, you're right, Jason.  The missing bit is nowhere to be found, and I don't think it's on VHS somewhere because I counted 22 segments before I mailed it off.  I, um, hope you were enjoying my run up to that point.

Funny story: the day before I started recording this run, I'd tried to record but I forgot to tape a segment (and I actually realized it before I got any further), so I had to start over.  You'd think I'd learn to be more careful...

If it's alright, Radix, I'd like to try it again.  I'm leaving in a few days, but hopefully I can finish by then.  I'm a little rusty, but I know a few extra tricks, so maybe I'll get a better time.  Sorry you guys put so much effort into an incomplete run.

I'm going to start recording immediately.

The missing segment is just more gaining levels in the dinosaur forest, so it's no big loss in terms of watching the run.  I didn't even notice it until my third or fourth viewing of the run.

And since I watched it 3 or 4 times, it's probably safe to say I enjoyed the run in its entirety.

While it's not a particularly important segment, it'll bother me if it's not there.  And I'm sure Radix will include a disclaimer, at the very least.  Anyway, I like the game, so I don't mind doing another run.

Right now, I've done 3 segments, but I'm where I was at the end of segment 1 in the last run- outside Zozo.  My game clock time is 1:47.  I'm not sure how that stacks up against the recorded run; if it's a minute or two slower, that's okay because I did a few extra things that will help me later:

1) I got enough experience that Sabin should know Fire Dance before Number 128.

2) I got the White Cape in the Returner Hideout so that I won't have to buy one.  (The reason I didn't do that in the other run is because I'd been planning to steal one from Ultros, but Locke's level was too low).

3) I got Sniper Sight on the train so I can use it along with Valiant Knife to kill Cactrots instead of Joker Dooming them.  (Assassin gave me this idea).

I'll probably do a couple more segments tonight.

I notice that I was 2 minutes behind my old time going into Zozo.  I think I made up for it in the factory, though- everything went well, whereas the factory was the one place that sucked in my previous run.  I'm at 2:48, and I'm about to go into the Sealed Cave.

I think my reaction time is a tad slower, but the planning is better.
Your first run was incredible. To know a second one is coming is great.

I have one teeny request: could the ending be included on this one? I forgot what the ending was like and it'd be nice to see it again... of course, if it's too much trouble..

Well, if you absolutely can't wait you could always watch the ending at Sega Fantasy  (http://www.hcn.zaq.ne.jp/cabic508/rsf/Wink

I didn't put the ending in the other one because I didn't want the file to be bigger than necessary, and I figured it would be more impressive the shorter the total recording time was.  I'm inclined to leave it out this time, too, for the same reasons, so hopefully Higgsboson's link will be sufficient.

I got to Thamasa last night.  Time was 3:17.  Hopefully I'll finish tonight.
I've seen Sega Fantasy. I've just always liked how FF3's ending changes based on who you got back, and who you didn't...

Radix you should contact nate and have him pull the tape. If its not on the tape, then the run may be invalidated by this because it isn't a complete run.

I mean, sure Majora's Mask was missing the start of the game, but the run was intended for a 3 day completion so that really doesn't mess anything up there.

And ya sure, Mega Man 2 with that blue stuff, at least you could still see what happened at 1 frame per second.

But this? ...I'm not going to say any more until you've contacted nate about the situation.

Wrong. It's not the first time this has happened. My own pikmin 2 run has a missing piece. If a missing piece is small and what happens can be easily explained by looking at the numbers (as happened here) then I don't care.
