Hey there,

so, like many of us i'm currently enjoying Fallout 4, but i couldnt help myself and i started testing things known from previous bethesda games.

One thing i took a look at was the usage of "pick up items" (like mugs, cones, baskets etc). I actually hoped to use them to clip walls / doors but so far i didnt have any luck.

But then i came across this gem on youtube:

And i can verify it, it does work on Ps4! So i'd should be working across all platforms.

I tried it only with traffic cones so far, but i dont see any reason that it shouldnt work with almost all pick up items Smiley

Hopefully that will prove useful in the future Smiley

€dit:
So, I did the "Hunter / Hunted" Mission today and afterwards i realized that it might be perfect for the elevator-glitch. So i mesed around a little and i actually got all the way to the roof and was able to enter the building on the Top level where the mission usually ends. Sadly i didnt have a savepoint from before the mission, so i will need to try it on my next playthrough, but if it works, you would save yourself almost all fights in the building itself. Also, if you could hit the mission-trigger inside the building before actually having the quest for it, you could jump somewhat far into the MSQ. Video is currently uploading and will be edited in when done.

So, i loaded a really old savegame and it turns out, the door is locked from a terminal. Nevertheless, once a door-clipping method is found, this is a good entry point, since you only need to get through the door. I've managed to clip walls several times with "pick up items" but I have no idea how i did it, and so i cant replicate anything yet
Thread title:
what
Okay I have a few VERY VERY New to speed running ideas
Has anyone tried finding and new door clips?
The method from Fallout 3 may work
But also I noticed in the room with the locked door theres alot of "Not in place objects"

This looks promising. Ive also noticed that dead bodies can be really buggy so maybe something of combined.
Also we have to remember with the hovering trick bethesta tends to be lazy where they put solid objects so maybe there's a weak spot somewhere in the room?
Also maybe going up into the door with this trick and try doing something that that will allow us to clip trough the door.
These are just terrible ideas and I don't expect them to work at all but they are definitely worth the try.
If anyone would be willing to try out my ideas that would be great
hey Epiccat Smiley

The bad news is that the FO3 method definetly wont work. Movement is completely blocked until the game is loaded in 100%.
Regarding finding door clips, i think quite some runners are working on it Tongue
What we have thus far is:
- Some walls become "thin" the higher you go. Meaning, if you use the Elevatorglitch there are sometimes spots on walls where you just get pushed through.
- IF you manage to get 51% behind a wall, you should in theory be able to "Save" -> "Load" and then be OoB. I did it once, but its missing consistency. Once i finish the game tonight,
i will look more into it. Even tho it needs a corner you get locked in atm, so i might not be useful.

What do you mean with "Not in place objects"? do you mean items you can simply pick up and drag around with you?
what
Hey ^-^
Wonderful Great And Perfect Plans
By not in place objects, I should have worded it better
By that I mean objects that stick out of the wall and because of their odd shape tend to be a bit weird
interesting, would you mind posting a screenshot of such an object for me? Just so i have a reference.

From your footage alone I was able to find a few

For the language, do we all run in English or can we run in what ever language we want ?

I honestly dont know. Of the top of my head i'd say if the difference is neglectable everyone can run in his favorite language Smiley But that will have to be tested.
But in my oppinion, until this game is "broken" it really doesnt make a difference. I mean, everytime a new strat or skip is found, the old times should be beaten pretty easily regardless of the language
Play in whatever language you like. Steam lets you choose language so if we have to wait for dialogue at all, we can test which one is fastest.

aimless, that skip won't work. The only place where the area loads exist are cities like Diamond City and Goodneighbor. Clipping through the door won't help because using the door is the load trigger.

i've feared as much, but it never hurts to try. Regardless of "if we get to load in the top level", if we manage to clip the wall and get a quest trigger, we would have good jump into the MSQ, even if it turned out that we would have to go through the whole building, at the moment this would be the "farthest" jump i could imagine. [Minimal Spoiler ahead, read at own caution]

Iirc, we need to build a teleporter next to visit the institute. I'm not sure if we could trigger a quest after that without having visited the institute first.

Of course thats still pretty far out there, but i'm still keeping it in mind for later

Edit: Just went through the MSQ again, do you think it would be possible to jump right into Mass Fusion? Idk how long it would take us to get the Mats for 'The Molecular Level'

Just on a random note:

It's nothing groundbreaking. Hell, it's probably already been figured out already. However, to save just a tiny bit of time at the very beginning of the game (before good, reliable clipping methods are found) hitting the wall that the vault door is on during the Vault escape will trigger the elevator to come down while the vault door is opening, saving you the time that it would take to go all the way down.

Then again, I actually haven't seen anyone try to break the game and do crazy things like that, so this could just be automatically obsolete.
Nice, i will remember that for the time being Cheesy

Anyway, so now following is a IMO real spoiler, so if you haven't finished the game and want to enjoy the rest of the game, best stop reading now Smiley

So, just for fun i shot Father and it turns out, there's a whole new "quest chain" for that case. I guess it was to expect, but still.
Now we would only need to know which is faster. Playing with the institute, or killing father at the first possible point?
I know that in my current playthrough i would have to recruit a lot of settlements to take the fight to the institute, so i dont know if it actually is faster to kill him and
make the institute your enemy.

do you think the mind part will be unskipable ?
interesting question. Of course it might be that we can skip it in the future but for now, i'd say we need to do it. How else would we trigger Hunter / Hunted?
i'm a bagette
maybe we can just go to the nuclearland guy and talk to him like if we know everything

i'll try that when i get back Smiley

Edit: When you get there everything is there, except Virgil :S
Good one Pickles, we didn't know about this.
Shooting father in the face is most likely a good strategy if you're doing Brohood of Steel or Minutemen. However, we believe Institute might be the fastest faction.
well, if you're with the minute men you'll need a lot of Settlements to launch an attack, idk how this will play out
Here's an early route that's a result of me, bubblesdelfuego and drthcops collaborating over the past few days since the game's release. Sorry we didn't release anything earlier but I've been working on the route pretty much 24/7 and it's hard to give info on something that's changing every 20 minutes.

Even this is very preliminary and is likely to change quickly as the game is studied further and more tech is found. I'm putting this out because of the growing amount of misinformation on the speedrun.com and SDA forums, there's a lot of stuff that other people were trying to figure out that we've already known since day one; so here it is:

http://pastebin.com/27aSz9en

I've already done a route using a route close to this run(A lot has changed even in the two hours after that run) and it was a 2:44.

We're not at all sure whether doing the Institute path is fast. That's our educated guess, and definitely might turn out to be wrong. Knowing this for sure would take a lot of work routing every single faction.

Aaaand first runs:

The route is still very unoptimized, but the general idea is there. We should be able to get under 2 hours RTA fairly soon.

Also, why is this in Newer Consoles? I strongly doubt running this on consoles would at all be competitive, can the thread be moved? (Not that the SDA categories make much sense in the first place)
cg on that first run Smiley Have very little time atm, so i will need to "walk" the route in approx. 2 sessions later today. When i have a little more time i will also just for fun make a save before we get into the institute and see what happens when i kill father asap, keeping in mind that we already killed the railroad
It's going to tell you to leave the institute and you'll have to finish either the Minutemen or the BoS questline, we've already tested this.

i'm a bagette
Should we make multiple run categories for the different questline ?

And is jump running better than running ? I have try bhopping but i could make it real :/ I might investigate in what is the fastest way to move!
If people do runs of them, sure, not before(no reason to creating a category no one has done runs of). It might also just be a variable on the speedrun.com leaderboards.

I havent tested jumping vs running yet either, it was sllightly faster in skyrim though

okay, something is seriously fucked up here.

I tried your route today arctice and i couldnt even make it into the institute.
Here's what happened:
- Cleared Museum, Killed Deathclaw, spoke to preston, FT to sanctuary, get settler quest, went to tenpines bluff, got Walden Pond, cleared, went pack to Sanctuary (like in the pastebin of yours).
But then Preston wouldnt even talk to me. All he said was something like "i didnt forget about your problem, but i need to know what the settlement needed" (or crap like that). So, i FT to Tenpines bluff, got them to join up. FT back to sanctuary and Preston still doesnt wanna talk. Every 15th time i hit "talk" my character tells him "you know that settlement you sent me to? I got them to join the minutemen". And either he ends the discussion right there, OR he says something like "thats great" and ends it then. Every 50th time or so he actually drops his line about the flare gun, but even then he just walks away mid sentence. After around 200 tries, i actually got him to say the last line, but the quest still wouldnt end!. So now i'm basically trapped. Cant finsish that settlers quest and cant build the teleporter.

Also, some other things i've noticed.
-The Deathclaw always camped to the left out of my view, so i had to get the armor and kill it in order to continue.
-After killing Kellog, i had some trouble getting the right dialogue from Nick. He always did the dialogue from when you normally come to DC after you save him.

Any tips? What Options did you pick during the convos?
