The server is currently running : Feed The Beast - Ultimate Pack

You can get the launcher for it at http://feed-the-beast.com/

It's also recommended to install SmartMoving : http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/361430-147smp-smart-moving/
(PlayerApi goes into the instMods folder and SmartMoving for ForgeModLoader goes into the mods folder)

Every SDA member with atleast ~15 posts is welcome to join.

Simply send me a PM for the server IP and I will get back to you.

Rule 1) Ask before building a quarry anywhere.
Rule 2) If you plan on building a big project ask beforehand.

Old Message:
For now this thread exists mainly to see how many people would be interested in an EU Minecraft Server since the ping isn't very good for any non-US guys trying to join the current SDA MC server.
If enough people are interested I'll probably buy a dedicated 2/3GB (whitelist?) server with FTB installed (http://feed-the-beast.com/).

Bottom line: Reply if you want an EU MC Server with good bandwith and enough ram to support ~15+ people.
Thread title:
Reverse Death Valley Bomb
Yes please!
I've been looking out for an IP to the other server but never found one >< Having an EU server to play on now and then would be preferable though.
Meet Stakhanov!
I've already got a server running that I've been testing today; there's a thread of it somewhere in this area of the forum. But I would be in favour, as I'm not the best host in the world, specially for peak times.
Meet Stakhanov!
Oh also, it might be worth mentioning but if the server is set up and it runs quite smoothly etc, I know many people aren't a fan of Minecraft Vanilla, but I do have an idea in that I've been playing a game called Nail for a while with friends, it's a 3 vs 3 pvp storm the castle style game, and I think it'd be really cool to be set it up and have like, a small tourney or just make it like a server sport, I could even keep a user maintained leaderboard of kills and stuff if I spectate and referee for each and every game, just a thought.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
I'd be interested, although I don't know what FTB is. Is is a combination of that entire mod list?
How about the Tekkit mod? It makes minecraft SO much more enjoyable imo.

xud9dab2: Yes.

bangerra: Tekkit and FTB are rather similar in their overall structure.
I'm still not 100% sure which one to use. Having bukkit-compatability is rather tempting (tekkit) but then again tekkit doesn't support some of the really good mods in FTB (Mystcraft,ExtraBiomesXL,Twilight Forest,Thermal Expansion etc.).
Mainly FTB is an updated version of tekkit which sadly lacks bukkit support at the moment.
This is mainly due to the fact that tekkit is still using an older Minecraft revision as its core whereas FTB runs on the latest MC version.

I'd really like inputs on what you guys would prefer. Bukkit has some nice admin-plugins which would for example make rollbacks in case something goes wrong rather easy but then again that's not a big problem with a whitelist server.

Going through the FTB mod list I've played a grand total of...0 of those. Well. Tekkit I've likewise never sees. Are those the only two options available?

They are the best options available for good mod packs (imo). They pretty much combine all the current good ones (FTB more so than tekkit).

I'd prefer a TFC server myself, but if you say so. I assume that both keep vanilla pretty much as it is, but adding a whole lot of thing to the game?

TFC only supports Minecraft 1.3.2 if you are talking about TerraFirmaCraft.

To answer your question: They add a bunch of new features and things to do into MC which I would have a hard time listing here. Your best option is to read up on them or watch some yt videos.

-edit-
Gonna check out TFC. It might be compatible with FTB/Tekkit.

P.S.:
Direwolf20's mod spotlights might be a good resource for getting to know some of the mods in FTB.

...I am, but the latest build is for 1.4.5. I'm playing SSP right now, it should support SMP as well.

Excellent, I'll do that later.

So I checked out TFC and I really enjoyed all the new additions (bloomery,alloys,cave-ins etc.) but it did seem rather tedious (which is obviously what the maker is going for) and I don't think it would go well with either tekkit or FTB since those modpacks would pretty much negate any of the TFC additions with other objects (solar panels etc. to run furnaces).
The only possibility would be to run TFC and nothing else which I'm not sure I'd wanna go for right at the server start.
Then again the server doesn't have to run FTB forever and I might just switch to TFC whenever a map is getting stale (and back to FTB on the next map etc.).

P.S.: Good Tutorial for some of the FTB basics (besides Direwolf20's spotlights and tutorials): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7VmhWGNRxKjcJzx9IzZcwlrTKniH9lN8

Yeah, the one problem with TFC it that it really can be a grindfest, but that's really just part of the mod. There are a few small mods that work with TFC, but nothing that really adds much to the game (though they're nevertheless useful).

The tedium in TFC does go down significantly when you get to the higher tier metals, but getting there, well, let's be nice and say it's not easy.
FTB doesn't have equivalent exchange? Oh well.. that mod is slightly OP and rather dangerous tbh.
I'd be fine with FTB, industrialcraft, railcraft and redpower are pretty much the 3 I really want.
Sandbagging
Of course it has EE (EE3 in fact) and newer, less buggy versions of all the mods you mentioned compared to tekkit. You can see the mods on the mod tab at http://feed-the-beast.com.
I'm currently testing some server providers trials to find one with a good ping.
The server is probably going to go up this week or the next once I find a good host.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
So has it been decided which mod will be used?

FTB for the first map and TFC very likely after a mapchange.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
Already looking forward to the...eh...culture shock? Mod shock? Something like that, I think. FTB and TFC are less "different mods" and more "different games". Still, I've never played any of the FTB mods before and I'd like to see what they can do.

Also a question: How exactly does one install FTB? The launcher that you can download from here has 3 packs for 1.4.5, and the one named simply "Feed the Beast" isn't updated for MC 1.4.5. Which one should I use?
Sandbagging
Yes they do feel like completely different games which is a good thing.
To run FTB you simply download the launcher, enter your mc login in the profile and use ftb v.12. It will downgrade your MC to work with it. There is one mod which still hasn't been updated to 1.4.5 which is the reason for it to run on 1.4.2.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
So the top one? All right, installed and it seems to be working. I'll be annoying having to mess around with all these mods though
Sandbagging
You should simply focus on Industrialcraft to start with as it can double your ore-outcome and will give you a general idea on power-management. Once you get the hang of that you can move on to playing around with some of the other mods.

Okay

EDIT: For some reason I'm getting game breaking lag. It's not my PC, regular MC works just fine, and it's not crashing or hanging, just really, really slow. Just how taxing is that mod?

I don't get any lag compared to vanilla on my PC. If you didn't place anything huge like a big quarry I really have no idea what would/could be causing new lag. What are your specs?

-edit-
You could try the optifine version linked in this thread : http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/tips-on-reducing-lag.1865/
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
I didn't build anything, I just loaded a map, walked for a minute, and suddenly massive lag. Trying again and it seems to work, so maybe it failed to launch properly? I'll keep checking, and here's my specs:

Quote:
Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @3.40 GHz (8 CPUs)
8 GB memory (1 GB allocated to TFB/MC)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

I fondly remember when MC SP was axed in favour of a local server. My average FPS went from 200+ to ~80.
