Is there any way to reliably get Silk Touch on a pickaxe? Glassfiber is expensive as crap and even compressing coal into diamonds (1 stack of coal per diamond, with some other stuff BTW) isn't nearly enough to fuel my diamond needs. Apparently diamond ore in a ma-something-or-another will crap out 2 diamonds, and I need Silk Touch to get the diamond ore. Also still would like to know how a rolling machine works.

Creating new worlds to travel to via Mystcraft is indeed a possibility but not something I'd like to force on people just to get a chance at exploring red power.
One thing about Mystcraft worlds is that they will fill up with instability rather often/quickly in the newer releases which would make it a lot more dangerous than usual to farm the required materials.
Isn't dimension hopping straining on a server? It'd be better to have everything we need in one world if so.
I am super interested in this, sorry for the late chime in. I really enjoyed playing and admining the last one, so I'd love to see another, especially a modded one. FTB <3

Can't help you with enchanting as I've actually never done it (haven't played MC in ~1 1/2 years).
A rolling machine needs a buildcraft engine and not industrialcraft power to run.
You can build a redstone or stirling engine to make it work. Those are relatively cheap.

http://minecraftbuildcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Stirling_Engine

P.S.: They need a redstone signal to run and in case of the stirling engine anything thats flammable.

Regrettable. Silk Touch pickaxes are extraordinarily valuable, every ore that you don't have to smelt (coal, redstone, uranium, diamond) you can collect with a Silk Touch pickaxe and turn into more stuff.

Well, that'll get me a step closer to solar panels, and more advanced machines. And I am very much in need of better machines. Something flammable? Well, I think Tree Murder Inc. can find something flammable.

EDIT: Success has been had, and a rotary macerator has been placed and is working. A watermill tower is really, really cheap diamond wise, which is a very good thing. One thing: That RM is absolutely crazy. It's hilarious how fast that damned thing is once it gets to it's max RPM.
Any updates?

Updates on what? The server won't go up until red power 2 is released as stated previously.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
I've just discovered that you can use leaves and seeds to power a jetpack. This mod is crazy. Awesome, and crazy.

Seems like the rp2 release is getting closer :

3 days 'til the stated release day. I've also been checking out nuclear reactors. In a planner first, of course. Turns out the most difficult part is designing a working reactor set-up, and, well, the internet has a few well-designed ones on it, so, yeah. Although still I don't think it's worth it. Running a late-game reactor can get you dozen millions of EU, sure, but it takes so many resources to set up properly that it's probably better to just spam solar panels and water mill towers. Besides, Uranium is a rare resource, and guess what advanced solar panels need for crafting.

EDIT: Question about oil platforms: Is there any way to get the oil from the platform, which is 300 blocks away from my base, to my base without me having to run laps between them with 27 buckets of oil? I could can the oil up, but that would take way more tin than I could ever find, and building a pipeline isn't an option either since the platform is far enough away for the chunk to unload. Anything I'm missing, or should I stock up on running shoes?

EDIT 2: Fixed the issue; the solution is using the Liquid Transposer block, which can take oil out of oil-filled cans without destroying them. And cans, even filled with oil, will stack, unlike buckets. Mind, that still means I get to make a few trips, since there's just that much oil around and because I'm not wasting tin on too many cans. Next order of business is to get a refinery running effectively (Electrical engines don't work with them, I'm trying to find an engine that does work without too much trouble) and, of course, finding a use for the damn oil itself since the only block I know of so far that needs oil-produced fuel is a Combustion engine, which is good for running a refinery, which is used to produce fuel. Yeah.

Craft a pump and lay some waterproof pipes to your base. I'm pretty sure the chunk won't unload?
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
Ninja'd. Even if it doesn't, there's a future oil platform site a little farther away from the current one, but the next oil platform could be a mile and a half from my base, so pipes aren't a viable solution.

I'd like to try this out when it's up and running.  I played a little bit of FTB before, but there's still a ton more to learn.

Information I'm sure at least a few know , but is nevertheless worth posting in case someone doesn't:
Quote:
The Electric Wrench has two modes, switch through modes by holding down M and right-clicking.
Lossless Mode Disabled: Low power usage, same chance to break machines as using a Bronze Wrench.
Lossless Mode Enabled: High power usage, with a 0% chance to break machines. Wearing of a charged BatPack or LapPack is advised.
Warning: The default keybinding of 'M' conflicts with other items in the mod-pack. Press ESC and goto the 'Controls' screen to rebind the 'Mode' key (',' works fine)
The "high power usage" is only a problem really early, and even than it's only a minor problem. Even before you get water towers/fish tanks and solar panels and the like, you can just commit some treemurder for EUs. 3 charcoal will refill an electric wrench from 0 to full.

FYI: M is used by Rei's Minimap.

EDIT: I've solved the issue with electrical engines and oil refineries. The solution is to use conductive pipes to feed the output to several refineries, rather than 1. Since refineries work slowly, this is a pretty efficient solution.

EDIT 2: Update on Red Power 2: It's been released...for MC 1.4.6, and FTB had all it's other mods updated for 1.4.5. So, eh...yeah. Either it's a wait until all other mods update, or...something else, I'm not sure. Either way, FTB with Red Power 2 is going to take a while longer.

Also, anyone know a good use for stacks of tanks worth of oil, and eventually fuel? My ocean oil platform is digging up oil like crazy, I'm tempted to jetpack down the hole and see what's up.

I'll be gone cause of christmas etc. from dec 23rd to dec ~26th. Will buy the server when I'm back and FTB (hopefully) will be updated.

P.S.: Bluelectric engine and windmill <3
Eloraam has a 1.4.5 build of Red Power 2 ready for distribution if the other mods don't update in time. Also heard that an update to the FTB Modpack might get released tomorrow, so we'll see how things go.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
Things I've learned while trying to build an oil refinery:

-Don't chain electrical engines; they'll randomly go crazy, overheat, and break.
-Don't put electrical engines next to each other and in a line; they'll go crazy and lose heat (somehow)
-Don't place a pipeline that pumps something from 2 locations to 1; the liquid will go from one point of origin to the other and chill inside the pipelines, completely skipping it's destination (somehow)
-Don't place tanks that are to hold different liquids within 3 block of each other

And a few others I've already blocked out of my mind. Well, one more: Don't build an oil refinery. Honestly, I don't think there's anything that you can power with fuel that you couldn't power with the massive amounts of electrical engines needed to run an oil refinery. Really, solar panels and water towers are just a better idea. With Mystcraft, oil also isn't rare. I've seen more than a few ages that have several oil spouts within far render range. Also, with the massive demand for it (like for electrical engines, for one), I dare say the tin used for cans to is worth more than the fuel you'd put in it. Whelp...

In good news, I've met a few bee-keeper villagers, and even purchased comb from one that's actually not mentioned in NEI. It not a useful comb, but it's interesting. I really don't know what to do with bees though, although wax cans would be awesome for saving on tin. Sadly the village who's blacksmith had 2 diamonds in his chest was in my creative test world. That village was promptly used to test the powers of nukes. They're...powerful. Don't recommend them for the server.
This sounds like it's going to be absolutely excellent.

Oh damn, 3 pages about SDA Minrcraft servering. Skimmed, amd I guess something good will be happening, or did. Just letting the people know that I'm interested, and would like to jump right in if or when it gets going. I don't use Euros, but I do live on the east coast!

Testing out quarries in Mystcraft dimensions. So far all I've gotten is cobble, more cobble, some sand, even more cobble, a few ores here and there, but mostly cobble. That's not to say I don't approve of the cobble, however.

Cobble can be macerated into sand, and that cooked into glass. This can be fully automated. Cheap, even.

I, therefore, approve of quarries. Although that's just all the more reason not to use combustion engines, a Rotary Macerator with 12 overclocking upgrades (out of a maximum of 14, BTW) takes a few solar panels worth of electricity. Since I'll have to take those anyway for the glass factory, might as well use them to power up a few electrical engines first.

Also, a hint for anyone that gets stuck in a Mystcraft dimension: If you have access to dirt, water, a diamond and some form of plant life, you can make a portal to the Twilight Forest, and take that same portal back to the overworld. Nether portals don't work in alternate dimensions however.

EDIT: FTB released a new mod pack, the "mind crack pack". Apparently it's the updated Beta A pack. Or something. Checking it out.

...Sweet Jesus, NEI had 20+ pages added to it. Thankfully my old world still works, although I'm not looking forward to having to mine crap elsewhere. At least I haven't really explored the overworld, so new chucks shouldn't be too hard to find. Still, yikes.

EDIT 2: Apparently this pack isn't the final one that'll be added for 1.4.6...or something. Thankfully, because it doesn't have Mystcraft and that's what I've been having the most fun with, second only to making creepers explode because I have mobgriefing turned off. Best addition to the vanilla game ever BTW.

EDIT 3: Second pack has been released (well, not just, but it has) and it has Mystcraft...but it's missing the mini-map. Yeah. One step forward, one step back. Hopefully the third pack will have everything, and if not apparently Mystcraft can be easily added to the Brain cracker pack, so that'll just take a bit file moving to get everything, if not at least the most important stuff. Apparently, though, the Brain Cracker is in full-blown balls-to-the-wall "Screw You" mode when it comes to various crafting recipes and other stuff.

In other non-news, I've recently decided to try my hand at beekeeping to see if I could get a source of wax to can up all of my fuel. I ended up with so many beehives I am constantly running back and forth doing whatever, currently trying to get the longevity gene on my main stock of bees. Frustrating, but still, it is fun. If mob griefing is left on in the server I might just make a perma-day Mystcraft dimension and become a beekeeper. I'd probably have to import some stuff though, because I'm flying through string and wood. Of course at least one species of bees live in jungles, so logs aren't the biggest issue, and string can be macerated from wool. I'd hate to have to keep a herd of sheep though.

For those curious BTW, TFC is basically the complexity of any given role you can assume in FTB (like, for example, beekeeping) applied to the most basic things in MC imaginable (like crafting a pickaxe).
I'm in! I like these modpacks, so I'll be building, not trolling
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
Figures that another MC server would draw you out of hiding, or wherever you've been the past year. Although, you like modpacks, but absolutely refused to have a single mod for your server? And why aren't you logged in your SDA account? And why the incredibly specific point that you'll not be trolling?

Call me paranoid, but there's a neon sign here that says "suspicious" about a mile wide.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Seems like the pack will be released pretty soon. All the mods have been updated :

Excellent news, seems like Mystcraft's bug problem has been solved at least somewhat as well.
Believe it or not, that's actually him. And he won't be trolling, I played on a tekkit server with him for a long time and even with EE powers he was well behaved. He did cover my house is snowfall once, but nothing bad.

(The decision to stay vanilla was largely on my suggestion, Xud. But I already have a full-time vanilla server now, so a modded one is going to be awesome)
No but really, I am lazy and didn't log in lol. I would've added mods if mage wanted to, but he didn't. I was also totally cool with vanilla, so it stayed that way.

If you assholes don't want me to play, that's cool, but I'm down for some serious FTB. I've always wanted to check out all the mods it uses, but never had a real reason to until now.
