It seems to now. One strange thing though is that it doesn't recognise 64 bit java. I have it installed, but setting it to far render distance the game is nagging about how I should have it.
EDIT: Nevermind, spoke too soon. I'd wager it's a problem with it not recognising the 64 bit java and the far render distance
I had that problem too. Do you have the 32-bit version installed as well? That can cause some problems. Re-installing the x64 version might also fix it.
I do, but plain old MC doesn't have a problem with it.
EDIT: Just something funny I ran into: Found a village with a blacksmith that wanted 4 diamonds to trade for an emerald. Another villager bought up emeralds and traded 4 bread per emerald. So to those villagers, with a farm I might add, bread was as valuable as diamonds. Does Mojang not have a QA department?
EDIT 2: Updated or reinstalled 64 bit Java and the game seems to be running at a stable ~30 FPS. It's not pretty, but it's playable. I am missing Smart Moving though, that'll take some getting used to.
Played FTB for a bit and, well...damn. That playlist really helped, since otherwise I'd have been utterly clueless. I've already build a house and mine, and I just finished mining through 4 iron pickaxes. There's still a ton of ore in the walls. Yeah, really enjoying this mod so far, even though all I've done is collect a bunch of stuff with a purpose I don't know. Also found a dungeon with 2 records in it. Not quite golden apples, but still a lucky find I say.
Also a question: I ran into a zombie villager underground, inside a sealed cave. Can they just randomly spawn?
Glad you're having fun with the modpack! Xisuma's playlist really is a great way to get an overiew over some of the stuff FTB has to offer while still leaving a lot to explore on your own. Just don't try to build a nuclear reactor for now. If it explodes you can say goodbye to your house To answer your question: I'm pretty sure that zombie villagers randomly spawn from dungeon zombie spawners but I don't think I've seen any that spawned without a mob spawner around.
Currently I'm still busy registering for trials from various server providers to make some comparisons but I think the server might go up this weekend.
P.S.: Nice to see some more people interested in this

Yeah, I had my fill of playing with nuclear reactors is another game, in which I nearly caused a meltdown. Twice. I'm pretty sure I can find a more stable and less explosion-prone energy source. Right now I'm committing mass tree murder to cook charcoal. My mine is loaded with just about everything, except for the usual motherload of coal, oddly enough. Well, nothing I can't remedy through mass planting and chopping.
Yeah, for now I'll stick to something more simple, and since I couldn't get the windmills to work (do they need a propeller or something?) I've decided on water mills, but I can't figure out how to get a decent line out of them without building a line of them from the sky to bedrock, and even than I'd need several of them.
is a good vertical setup for watermills if you don't want to build a huge tower with them. (B being a batterybox or MSU) The watermills can extend to both x and y indefinitely. Watermills will have a hard time producing a lot of energy since they only get 0.010 EU/t for every adjacent block of water if you "feed" them passively resulting in a max total of 0.25 EU/t if you have a 3x3 block surrounding a water mill. You can also put buckets of water in them which results in 1 EU/t for 1000 EU. They hold up to 4 buckets of water. This process could be automated with some buildcraft piping work if you have the resources for it.
P.S.: Watermills can share the same block of water without losing any energy gained from it.

Ah, that's what I was missing, I was just building giant walls of watermills with only one side actually getting water. Still, once I go back to playing I'm going to need more than my measly 12 watermills.
Actually 12 will do quite fine since you won't be actively using your machines all the time and the battery boxes will slowly save up all the energy.
Really? With the few tests I've done 12 stacks weren't enough to power a single device without using up a storage. I'm currently testing another build, though. Maybe that one will work.
EDIT: So I've run into a bug where my water mills do produce electricity, but the batbox doesn't actually store any of it until I quit to title and reload the map. Replacing stuff doesn't work, how to fix this bug?
I've never had a problem with batboxes updating their counters. Are you using an ultra-low current cable for the watermills->batbox connection? Copper cables drop power over distance and can kill the output of watermills that way.
Not using any redstone. And copper cables aside I'm pretty sure it's a bug; reloading the map gave it a bit of power, but afterwards it went dead again. Thankfully it didn't break on my actual world, so I'm currently after solar panels. The water pump set-up I have looks nice, but ~2 energy per second with 16 water mills hooked up and running...yeah. Needs more juice. So for now it's back to tree murder.
Chainsaw assisted tree murder. Found a block of steel in a dungeon.
EDIT: So I'm making good progress with getting a solar panel, but I've hit a stumb-ling block (terrible, and yet I laugh). How does a rolling machine work? I've got the stuff I need for a mixed metal ingot, but I can't figure out how to get the rolling machine to work.
Yeah, I've found just about everything short of the kitchen sink in that mine, but not a single diamond. Anything other than copper/glassfiber that I could potentially use?
I just read up on the latest FTB news and apparently red power 2 won't be released until after december 21st (a joke-date but hopefully atleast somewhat of a guideline). I might postpone starting the server until then since red power 2 generates some special ores which (afaik) wouldn't be in the generated chunks.

Reminds me of the time when I had to go 1K blocks from my house to find a the then-newly added birch trees and Lapis. Yeah, probably best to wait in that case.
And yes, any changes to world generation won't effect old chunks unless the map is reset.
Given the possibilities of Mythcraft creating tons of more worlds to explore, isn't this pretty much a non issue? If you need specific materials that were added after the main chunks were created, just go to a dedicated mining world spawned after the update? I expect there will be a time when most materials will come from automated quarries in some flat world anyway.
Creating new worlds to travel to via Mystcraft is indeed a possibility but not something I'd like to force on people just to get a chance at exploring red power. One thing about Mystcraft worlds is that they will fill up with instability rather often/quickly in the newer releases which would make it a lot more dangerous than usual to farm the required materials.
