I want off the ride....
Quote from maxamix:
i just completed a normal run through (my first) while looking at all scenes with a clear time of 15h55 (just before frederic) (ps3 version)

i will give it a shot, so if any1 would like to help me, here's my e-mail : hockeymanbraves22005544@msn.com

at this point, my main party (the one i will take when i can) will be jazz, retto and viola (for her healing arrow)
any suggestion / glitch i could use?

oh and i was wondering if i should try to make this min level at the same time...

hoping for some awnsers

edit :-i wont be doing min level cuz i can't imagine beating ruined + waltz on min level in a speed run... i'll be underleveled.
-looking at the speed FAQ i realized that the PS3 loading/saving is longer... so maybe the ps3 version will clock in about 4h15 for a very well run... i'm still on my tryings ( i cleared first boss in just 1 sec longer than x360 version)

I WAS minimum level when i cleared it my first game (hell i was 42 AFTER ruined body + waltz); its fully possible Though i used Allegretto, Viola and Falsetto. USE FALSETTO! She gets free levels and was the highest person i had! Just take retto out and use her, i am NOT kidding. Jazz will be far more useful (at least in the time). The best you can really hope for is to just rock the shit out of waltz and ruined body (seeing as frederick is a cakewalk afterwords). Grinding is NOT AN OPTION IN THIS GAME. Experience is too small (and fights too long) To be worth any amount of grinding. Some fights are 'ok' (cause this game is hella bitch [at least in ps3 ver] to dodge), but they should be avoided when necessary. Thoughts that should be brought up are "is dolce worth it to be fought multiple times?" I would wanna bet 'yes' in the ps3 ver cause of the number of changes to later bosses, and that extra EXP will help curve your party out. Besides her items (for the optional fights) are just good enough to be like "yeah lets do it!" So DO IT.

Also, you might want to do the trading sequence up til either the atk glove (+10%atk) or the shoes (+movespeed). You'll get two of one or the other, and really you should capatialize on the atkpower so I'd say do it until then.. (Trading any further would be just a pain in your side). Then along with that, make sure you cap a few 'A' ranks on the early boss fights with Beat. And if you do it right, you can carry yourself to the end with money (from bosses and the few randoms you kinda HAVE to fight). I know cause i pretty much did that yo.

Peace and Good Luck
thanks for the post, i will reconsider my min level, as i tried to underlevel for the forest boar (level 3 instead of 1) and it took 30 min just for that section. As you said, grinding is not an option.

jazz + falsetto will be a good echoes collector, as viola sure pack a hell of a punch with her arrows. and at level 15 she gets healing arrow witch should carry me to ruined (where i hope i'll have night arrow, witch is a blessing)

Dolce will be fought all 3 times of course at 86k xp EACH (if i remember correctly)

i have to say i hate taking pictures, but i have no other options so i'll have to train a bit with it and i missed on the trading sequences in my first run throught, so i'll use the encore from my 1st game to practice with the trading, since i dont know hell about it.

lament's going to be a pain, with the dialogue scene witch you can't skip.... so a very well run is sure to be over the 4h00

you should really use Poison on the boar. Its weak as hell to it (first turn drop a poison on him, if it misses reset). Thats a good strategy with most bosses, to drop that poison them. Also each poison ticks more % of their HP. First one is 3%, then 4% and then 5%. it just breaks down and really works out.

Pictures are easy after you practice a bit, its just knowing how far away to stand. You should (on good goes) get 3 pictures + per turn. So boss fights with beat should be wrapped up in a little over 4 turns if you can. The money is the big deal and you really need it.

I totally agree with you for the poison whitecaps/wormwood/(i dont remember the name)
but how do you get them for the boar, since you don't shop in tenuto + you don't grind a piece in the forest.... i guess i will have to drop by in tenuto, a shopping i wanted to skip.

the distance with the pictures is exactly what i meant... and i'm getting good at it... but you have to be facing the boss for it to be a A rank, witch is another problem, i'll deal with that

oh and i have problems recording my run...i'll fix that too :S
edit : problem fixed, thanks to mike

restarted the run, after the first 2 segments, i shaved off 16 sec from my first attempt. at save in tenuto village after bread gang, i'm at 0:07:44, the forest is frustring me because it's pure luck on enemies placement.

edit : 3rd segment completed, i'm at 0;09;10 before 2nd boss... and he's a BITCH

This thread is hilarious, I don't remember anything about this game like what any of the character names are other than Chopin, so everyone is all Beat Dolce Falsetto and it's all mumbo jumbo. Sad

Did they fix the archer broken long-distance headshot damage?

Min levels isn't a good idea for the boar in a speedrun. It takes forever at 1 and you can seriously get to 2 in like 2 fights or something.

Is it really worth it to fight Dolce? (that's the pirate chick?) It seems weird to fight an optional boss in a speedrun.

You really need to learn how to shoot pictures because it's how you regular attack archer which is broken insane best move in the game, unless they fixed it (I suspected it was a bug maybe).

Can a 360 player verify this? Or are there too many differences?

Erm, I played the x360 version a lot, haven't played on PS3 but yeah, last time I played (a couple months ago) the archer still did far too much damage from max range headshots... and cameras still gvie too much money (something I didn't find out on my own because I couldn't stand listening to Beat's high pitched voice (in either english *or* japanese, blargh) so I never had him on my team... heh. So I wouldn't know if the sell prices are still high...

Everything about my post referred to PS3 version. They apparently have fixed the camera in that version so I was wondering if they also fixed the archery (which is done with the same interface in battles).
I'm casting an angel's trumpet on this thread because I'd like to see a run of this game, preferably PS3 version because it's apparently less broken.

Eternal Sonata is ideal because of it meets two important JRPG criteria for a decent speedrun: 1, visible and thus avoidable non-boss creatures on the field; and 2, skippable cutscenes. As a bonus, it also has an "action command" timed button press mechanic that allow the speedrunner to showcase his/her skill.

You see I wouldn't mind doing this game but Seiken Densetsu 3 needs to get finished first; which also conflicts with class responsibilities. The real problem with the ps3 version is... the complete and udder lack of money. Even good photos (which are a biotch to get) don't get you enough to carry you through unless its a boss, which means you sacrifice time for money in hopes that the money will help your time.

Other than that.. its all about keeping up with weapons and hurting things like they are meant to. At low level the game gets extremely tricky near the end... as the bosses just get outstandingly cruel;

Also.... on a NG+ file, i still haven't beaten the first boss cause I donno what it is.. either level 1 allegretto and beat suck too bad or they really modified the bonus' bosses get in NG+
A second playthrough is basically "hard mode" - the only thing you get to keep is your Party Level, and all the enemies have, IIRC, double damage and health.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

I'm working on a run of this game on the 360 version of the game. I have been working on it for atleast 3 weeks now and i'm now at the save before FORT FERMATA with a time of 35:03 which just about 6 mins faster then the speed run FAQ. I have done some of his segs togther witch has saved me some time. I'm hope to get thought Fort Fermata in one go and hopefully get a time of about 39:4x befor the boss fight with Killer Knight. Which i have practised a few times and the 1-2K hits with arrows with viola isn;t working for me any tips on this boss would be very grateful indeed. Also i want to see how close to sub 3 i can get so that is the primary goal for right now if i get a 3:10 i will also be quite happy with it. My party members i think i might use is A,V,Fredrick Since sun slash plus normal is pretty good for about 10 K damage and normal attack plus bone crusher will do close to 20K damage.

Also if i don't think pics in Tuba will i be good for the game with great pics of Tuba and any of the 1st or the 2nd fights
I want off the ride....
Viper, i dont know how you can't nail these arrows... its not that hard. Just set up from afar; point and shoot. Account for some falling in the path (aim a little high). If your doing it from the front, they are probably blocking (50% damage) so try to keep it from behind. Its not that hard....

It's not that i can't hit them all my arrows hit LOL i did have a good one where i was getting 2.5K damage so i just did that just now so i guess it's alright now. Also i have added you on MSN i hope you didn't mind that so if i have questions i will ask from there. Which leads me to the pics would i still be good if i took from the tuba fights

I'm giving a shot at this, since it seems to be a fun little RPG.  I do not have a PS3, so 360 version for me.  Sorry if you guys want a PS3 version...ain't happening.

I'll be following the GameFAQs guide, since it seems quite solid.  I'm through Save 2 sitting right on the mark for time (the improved time of 3:06).  I'll see how this goes.  May need some support though. ^^;;

Luckily for me, my 360 is JTagged, so I can easily backup my save files.)

Edit: Now though the first boss, saved at Tenuto Village with a time of 7:36, 10 seconds faster then the FAQ.
11:31 at Heaven's Mirror Forest Middle North save.
Defender of Truth, Justice, etc
Cool, good luck. I played through ES once and really liked the art style, so I'd love to watch it again.

360 got it easy; if you follow the guide, no problems should arise. I kinda followed it for the ps3, doing a minimalist run. I struggled near the end cause of the difficulty adjustment. Although i was 2-3 levels higher because of the extra dungeon.

Just know the boss and the attacks and your good to know. Manip them hardcore and you really shine.

Segment 5 is proving to be a royal pain in the ass.  So many things that can go wrong...

1. First enemy is in the way.  Since I don't fight them, instant restart.
2. Boss resist poison.  Instant restart.
3. Boss does several charges.  While the first one is fine, the rest put it WAY out of position.
4. Boss just being a dick in general.
5. Too many enemies get in the way in Agogo Forest.  I should only fight the tutorial monster and a late pair of onions for a level up.

Most of the restarts are the first 2 items.  I did get a 17:44 at what's technically Save 6 (skipping save 5 to save some time).  But that's only 6 seconds faster then the target, meaning I lost some time, probably from a charge the boss did right at the end of the fight.  I mean literally one more round from Chopin and it was dead. Sad

---
I'm finished up now with Segments 5-7.  My save spot for 6 was slightly different then the speed run FAQ - I made one trip though the forest with Polka and Chopin and did the hopeless boss fight with Fugue in Segment 6.

Segment 7 I get into one fight I just can't avoid, but I run from it fine at the first opportunity.  Currently sitting at 0:33:04 at what is technically his 10th save.  I didn't do any shopping, so I'm sure something is gonna bite me in the ass later.  I did take a few pictures during the Baby Dragon boss fight, but not much.  I'm sure I'm gonna get caught somewhere down the line. ^^;;
I want off the ride....
wait... your trying this game for speed without playing it first? Well thats kinda stupid... ... oh well Good luck with later Rondo fight. Hopefully you can clutch it out with falsetto, since that fight is a bitch to time everything on if you dont have a good setup. Which i dont think that guide covers too well.

Yeah, I know it's dumb.  But, I've fallen on my head lately, so I'm obviously very crazy.  I'm having to learn a lot as I go (like how to properly fight with Viola) and at times it is frustrating, but it is kinda fun.

Finished up with Segment 8, with a PERFECT fight w/ Viola.

In the one fight, Viola will target the lower enemy if she doesn't move by default.  The perfect sequence is for the lower enemy move first (and backwards).  Viola goes second and arrow spams it to death.  Then the top enemy goes next and also moves backwards.  Beat takes pictures, Fredric skips his turn, then Viola arrow spams it to death too.

If you get that sequence, the fight is easy as hell.

I'm sitting at Fort Fermata with 0:35:39.
Now at the Over Central Road save at 0:38:42.  I'm gonna find out in 2 segments whether I'm way over my head or not, especially since I screwed up with money and couldn't buy anything, so no poison cap for me. ^^;;
(Yes, I'm aware I'm an idiot.)
Fucking Weeaboo
I managed that boss fight, after like, 60+ attempts a week ago, and have easily progressed though both Tuba fights.

I'm sitting now at the beginning of Chapter 3, with a time of 1:09:05.  The swamp looks like it's gonna be a royal pain, from the initial runs though it.  Some fights are absolutely unavoidable.
Quits halfway
Have you made any progress recently? Really looking forward to seeing this when you finish ^_^
Fucking Weeaboo
I haven't had much time for anything lately, sorry.  I'm gonna try to get back on track with this soon, I hope, since my mid-afternoon work meetings are over for now (which have screwed up my sleep schedule for quite a while).

(Plus blame Kirby's Epic Yarn a little too.)

Any reason you didn't use this topic: http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/eternal_sonata25.html

There's some discussion on the ps3 version in there already. If you didn't know, search is your friend, and SDA prefers to keep threads condensed as much as possible.

Edit: Weird, I thought this was in Newer Consoles. This should be moved or merged with the thread I posted.

Im planning on doing a run soon, and Im wondering encore would be faster correct?

(ps3 version btw, because)

A: Ps3 Has been proven the more challenging one ( Ruined Body ,Count Waltz)

B: I like the ps3 more Cheesy

Lol newbies, I pushed out the New Users board to try and prevent this.
