Yea I love the flight glitch. And sorry Gamningnerd I took that record too ^^'
There's a little optimization on the second key where you don't have to stomp and lose less momentum.
How it works is you let go off the right button instead of the stomp move. It's pretty precise though because the key visual effect is utterly misleading since the hitbox where you grab it is actually really small.
Yeah I can expect that. I only just started ESJ again a couple days ago so I'm sure there's quite a few more little optimizations that I'm missing out on.
Well it depends .. 1.04 is the fastest because you can manipulate two boss fights. I'm not sure how much time the super flight saves but it wouldn't be close to the 1.04 version since there's a lot more glitches missing.
For example there was a level where you could stomp through the floor and skip everything.
For a 100%, all stars sould be taken, the world 4 should be done too.
I think a 1.06 run can be sub27 event without rng manipulation and the level skip. The 27:00 run isnt deathless. With good patterns and deathless, 27:00 can be beat with a 1.06 game. But of course, a deathless 1.04 will be better
I can dedicate a section of my site to organizing information and leaderboards for this game, after AGDQ is over, as I'm hosting the FAQ's and such, and I don't want to put anything towards anything else.
That would be cool, though I should mention that I've recently been made a moderator of the ESJ subreddit http://www.reddit.com/r/ElectronicSuperJoy/ to make a "speedrunning general" post for pretty much that purpose. I'm not sure what all to include - a link to the world record in what categories exist, probably a link to this thread, any guides once they are made, and maybe promote the SRL #superjoy channel if we intend to use it. My primary model for planning it out would be what Cali has done for Antichamber, (e.g. this: http://www.reddit.com/r/antichamber/comments/1ajjji/speedrunning_general/ ), although we already have IL leaderboards built-in, a speedrun leaderboard with Twitch VOD links could be cool to have.
Also, on the subject of the segmented run, timing it will be slightly tricky, but I believe I've discovered the method. If you have the in-game timer running and record some extra footage of the next level on the end, we can time it correctly.
It's basically a mid-air jump while falling off a ledge and smashing. There is 1 frame during the smash in which you're still "grounded" allowing for a jump to be performed, even though the sprite is not physically on any ground tile. This seems to only work while falling off a ledge and not while jumping off of one. Doesn't seem like much of a useful trick, but it's interesting to say the least.
Looks like another side effect of the corner step (character widens his legs, you can only jump if moving, but you can jump even after leaving the platform if moving, necessary for Babylon's jumps, slipping is necessary for I Blame My Mother). I think I did this once, accidentally, in hell club, and yet still could not get the star (because I believed you could get it from that flag. Ah, to be young, innocent, and unsuccessful). Something like this could be useful in I blame Your Mother - for a while I've been smashing through the block to the left of the center instead of the one in the center and holding right so I smash down for a while before landing on a platform.
I asked to the ESJ Support if it will be possible to have the .exe of the version 1.04. I'm waiting for the answer !
I will try to do a run on the 1.06 but this RNG makes me crazy !!!

Oh yes, this time can be beat easily, i've done several errors but currently i can't train me on this version
I'd been doing a lot of 1.04 grinding before this new change, it's a shame the manipulation has gone. As was said before, it would be good to get an overall agreement on one version. Personally I think 0.4 makes the most sense assuming we can get hold of a good .exe verison of it - it's much less random and a lot of people are used to running on that version (myself included). Good idea Elektro, hopefully he'll be amenable to letting us run 1.04. The dev seems like a cool guy from the conversation or two I've had with him.
Just did my first choke% run and ended up with 44 minutes. I've been going to hard at the IL attempts I think. Need to put in some serious practice to get better.
Excellent news! I emailed the dev, and he said that they didn't actually intend to change the RNG in 1.06, and if I understand his email correctly, he implied 1.07 will return the RNG to its old state (though we might still need new routes).
I sent it to debug@electronicSuperJoy.com, not sure if that's the support one too. Either way, once 1.07 is live I'll certainly get back to ESJ and try for the sub 28 (assuming I understood his wording correctly, but I'm pretty sure he means it'll be changed back)...
So to get things clear there was no RNG in 1.04 and by 1.06 they added RNG to the spawn points of the missles/runes, and now come 1.07 the RNG will be removed. Maybe we should have a "pro" category for 1.06 with included RNG! lol
