We need moar ppl to race !

For ppl wanting to run this game , i did 2 video about 1-14 and 2-14 RNG manipulation that may help you.

In fact , Runes and rainbow missile position aren't totally RNG at all , you can manipulate them by doing a certain number of stomp between each of them. the time at which your take them is take in account too.
Seems like a very leniant run. What's the record for this category?

Hey guys. I'm also interested in running this game - my PB is a shameful 42:26, but I drop 30 seconds to a minute basically every time I run. I figured out a small trick in the first level - when you hit the first flag, you can respawn immediately and get the smash early, which makes the proceeding bouncers much faster.

The best run I've found so far is by Ougaa on twitch, at 28:47: http://www.twitch.tv/ougaa/c/2888618, assuming he's timing the same way we would.

Those boss routes will be super helpful, Miril, thank you. I had figured out the first three runes of the 1-14 route, but was just using the smashless route on 2-14. Of course, the time that will save at the moment pales in comparison to the time I would save by not dying in stupid places, but it will be useful for the future.

Also, to everyone, while you will almost definitely beat me in a race, I'd love to race anyways. I'm bowlercaptain on steam and SRL as well, and am probably willing to race any time that I'm online on either of those.

Also, I've started planning a route for an all stars run, most of which seems relatively doable. I really don't want to do an actual 100% run, which would require doing most levels at least twice - once for no deaths and stars, once for gold time, plus the world four levels, only one of which I have yet completed. There's not all that much to say that's new or unexpected about an all stars run, except that the star on black and white gives us another chance to use the laser-clipping glitch.

Also, you don't have to kill the groove wizard, and in fact it is slightly faster not to, given the smash-pause, although that instant probably won't make the difference between any two runs, but it is interesting to note, a la the animals in Super Metroid.

Enjoy the mass of text, let's race some time.

Edit: Also, (because apparently I start sentences with "also" all the time) I think there might be a skip to be found in Babylon (2-1), because that autoscroller doesn't kill you if you go too high, and I don't think floors are solid when they're offscreen, allowing you to jump through the platform at the top and skip the process of moving left on the arrows, getting the flag, and then jumping up the stairs. It might even be possible to move through the wall on the right if it isn't there either, although I've only successfully done the skip upwards once, so most of this is theoretical. I'd be interested in knowing if the trigger to autoscroll right gets hit in that process (so it doesn't kill you) and if anyone figures out how to do it any kind of consistently.
HI bowlercaptain

For Babylon i did that :

Dunno if they changed something with recent patch ( i didnt launched the game for weeks now ) but i think it should still work.

i managed to do something like 29:50 with a lot of mistake and i think an any% run could be done sub 26:00.

about run categories , i think a 100% run should be getting all the stars during the 3rd first world and do world 4.

Race wise , i'm busy with work now and it'll be hard for me too find some time to get again into the game (but maybe later i'll).

Anyway , if you have question , dont hesitate to add me on steam , i'll be happy to answer you .

You definitely wouldn't need to run "most levels" at least twice. If you run deathless, you'll easily get gold on all but one level (as far as I recall Slowdance has a very tight gold time but all others are pretty comfortable). Only 18 levels have stars, and quite a few of those you can get the star and still comfortably get a gold time. As an example, I Blame My Mother (3-9) has a gold time of 3:45. You'll literally fly right past/through the star on your way through that level, which you can do in 40 seconds. So...I dunno, you might need to run about 6 to 8 levels twice, but 8 out of 45+ isn't a lot at all Smiley

That said, World 4 on its own is enough to put me off giving 100% a shot Tongue Although I've beaten all of the World 4 levels (I persevered so I'd get 100% achievements on Steam), my best in A Jungle Welcome is a rather dismal 5:21 with 37 deaths. The world 4 levels are brutal.

The most recent patch left the Babylon and laser (I blame your mother) glitches intact, and returned Drop The Beat to its original, more forgiving state. What it changed, however was ALL THE RNG. We need entirely new routes for Pride and Big Sexy Beast. Grr. There seems to be a route for Pride on the left side of the screen, but you are very intimate with the missiles early on, making it a far riskier level than it used to be. I'll report if or when I figure out new routes for those levels.

EDIT: Oh, and "Flap Your Brains Out" is way easier now. Go figure.
Hey guys !

I found new routes for Pride and Big Sexy Beat for version 1.04 ^^

They are easier to do than the previous ones Smiley

And ... i beat the WR of Ougaa yesterday with 27:04 !

Aah, shameful to call my pb old WR Wink But that time looks pretty decent grats!

e: do I know you by twitch name maybe? Just surprised someone mentions my name since it wasn't very public pb of mine.
Thank you Smiley

Hum ... no, i searched the best time and i've found your video here ^^
I have a Twitch Elextron, but i prefer run and save my videos directly on my computer (0 frame lost etc. :p )
I've just started speedrunning this game, and I've got a quick question about the Pride strategy. The method in that video is great, but I can only get it maybe 30/40% consistent? I can't find anything I'm doing differently, but I can't seem to get the consistency above there. Do you know if there's some issue I might be missing that affects the RNG, but isn't apparent in the video, like holding a key, or which angle you face, or something else? I'm pretty confident angle of facing does matter, but I'm doing precisely what's in the vid, and it's very unreliable. I can generally get the start fine, I grab the first one, smash, grab the second, do the four jumps, grab the third, do two smashes on that left platform - then most of the time the next rocket spawns elsewhere and it all goes wrong. Any tips? Smiley
Hum, i can do it 80% of the time. I don't press other buttons that jump and smash, and i really don't know if the angle of the face change something. I think the only key to do it, is to be fast. When i fail it's always the fourth, like you. (I will make a short video with some tests)

Also, the route of Big Sexy Beat has changed again grrrr

I hope it will serve you Smiley
That was really helpful actually - got it down to about 80%+ consistent now. Thanks! I think you're right, faster seems to be always better, but I am now 95% confident that facing direction matters. After picking up the fourth on the far left, if I turn around and face to the right, it seems to almost always stop the fifth from spawning correctly...
I'm now 100% certain that facing matters. The fourth and fifth are way, way less likely to spawn if you're facing right than if you're facing left, and the fifth in particular just seems unwilling to spawn 99% of the time if you're facing to the right. I normally do a jump to get it, then jump again and hold left timing it so that it is due to spawn whilst I hold left, and that seems really reliable.

Here's a glitch on Over by Christmas that let's you skip over half the level:

My pb (current WR) on it is 02:901, but I'm pretty sure you can improve it by a bit

EDIT: Apparently, people already knew of it, it just wasn't posted here. My bad!

Finally broken the 30:00 barrier, got a 28:43 just now. Nice find DrDocter (I wasn't aware of it). One thing that does puzzle me is that the high score tables for some levels just have bizarrely short times. "Don't Look Down", for instance, has one person with a 14:00 time, and everyone else is at least 21:00. Or "Here Ya Go", where two people have 9:00, everyone else has 14:00, or "Ice Ice Baby" with a 20:00 then nothing but 28:00s. And "Star League" I wonder about too. And "The Wizard", the first stage of the Groove Wizard fight, seems to have a bunch of people who have somehow got it around 15s. I've been trying, but I cannot figure out how it might be done.

Anyhoo, I'd be up for doing some races some time if others are. I haven't really put myself onto SRL yet, but I'll happily figure it out if others are interested.
I beat my record the 11/29 (-4 s => 27:00) but I have only 48 views on 2 weeks Sad
There is a validation submission category of ESJ on SDA or not ?
Oh ... since the V1.05 "Pride" and "Big Sexy Beat" is totally random ! Sad
That's a sad news =(

I have the v1.03 DRM-Free from the Alaska Bundle, send me a PM if you want a download link.
I don't know if it's authorized to use previous version to speedrun :s
There are not official rules for the moment so i'll try on v1.05 now ... but I'll take the 1.03 too, thanks :p
This game should really be added, assuming they're done updating the game. I had no idea so many other people have already worked on it.

Found a glitch that could help make "I Still Love You" far more consistent:

Basically, when flying, pressing your head against a ceiling and moving to the right will accelerate you like you were standing on a slippery platform. I believe it is caused because hitting your head against a ceiling shouldn't slow you down - obviously - but in order to do that, the bottoms of blocks just use the slippery block behavior, including the behavior that allows you to accelerate.

Also, new patch seems to have removed the early smash unlock in "Welcome". Yay. At least "Drop The Beat" is friendly again.

EDIT: Okay, so accelerating yourself with more than a few blocks of ceiling makes you move faster than is possible by running on ice, so the new fastest route (I would think, I haven't timed it yet (Edit: I did, and it is, see next page)) is to grab the first set of wings, go backwards and accelerate off the bottom of the platform you just jumped from. You will have two chances to grab another set of wings before your current charge fails, but it's possible to carry above-max-speed all the way to the final portal.
