Touches Things
Well, I am going to get on this one. Since I own the game, I should be able to find out the fastest routes and best ways to fight a battle. If anyone has any type of information on this game, please do tell. It will likely help. And any glitches in the game that, you think might be, aloud to use in the game.

Please and thank you.

Did you even record the FF3 you did?  Don't recall you mentioning if you did or not.

On that note, you seem to really have trouble posting in the right forums for these kind of things...

Sorry, I dont understand. I said I might do the FF run on a recording. I am in a tight spot atm. I just want to let everyone know that I want to get a fast run on this game, just for later when I decide to record it. And when I can.

EDIT:
Aww Crap! I didnt pay attention and posted this in the wrong forum!
look like you wanna speed run every game O_o

Seriously. Choose a game and stick with it. Too many people who want to start speedrunning choose a bunch of games, they get overwhelmed and they either A) never finish a run or B) finish subpar runs.

Hehe.. Hah! Alright, I will slow down Wink

Now I gotta pick a game. I think its going to be SM first, I was mainly doing FFVI for myself. But that will be done at one point or another. I know I can go quicker. But for now, I have to stick to either FFVI or EarthBound. Since I dont have SM. Which I can probly get shortly. We will see =P
Eternal Understudy
Personally, I'd much rather see an Earthbound run over a slightly improved FFVI run. Either way, good luck with the run.
Touches Things
I dont mind starting an EarthBound run. I will just need some hints and stuff. I never actually tried to exploit the game in any other way aside from the Rock Candy glitch. And never actually tried speeding through it. I always liked to read the story and such.

Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
I would love to see an Earthbound speedrun, but Goodness knows I don't have any ideas for how to make it work best.  Jeff's devices will likely be highly useful, though, and I imagine lots of water may be consumed to power those awe-inspiring PSI attacks.  The real trick will likely be getting lucky on the whole "1/128" item drops for the monster weapons and a few other things of note.  Good luck on this one.

btw Suzaku, I love your avatar.  EB peeps be groovin'!  XD

I vote for Earth Bound
yes, a man carrying a gimp
As I'm playing this game for the 6th time, I've been thinking about what I could do to finish this game quickly.  I'm thinking the hardest parts will be when you're alone with Ness until you get Paula, and the third Sanctuary dungeon with the mushrooms.  The rest of it shouldn't be that hard since you'll be able to get plenty of Jeff's Big Bottle Rockets (and eventually Multi Bottle Rockets) to quickly destroy everything in your path.

I was thinking of going slowly through the beginning, and then just rush through the game as fast I can once I get Paula.  Once everyone has joined, I'd make one character fill his or her inventory with Skip Sandwiches to get through the game even faster.

Hah, I forgot about Skip Sandwiches. But, you forgot about the Deluxe Skip Sandwiches. They last longer, which is obviously good. But, a slight possibility you would be better off getting the regs. Depending on how much money you need.

Guess I will be practicing. Anyone know if the Rock Candy glitch would be aloud? I would think not though, it gives you ALOT of power. If you use it, bring up 10 extra str. You do like 100+ more dmg. More or less. Just guessing judging from how much of an effect it had once before. I gained a level and I got like 1200 HP and PP using enough for maybe 20-30 stats for Vit and, well, I forgot what brings up PP. So, doubtful.
I thought it was just a surprise party!
I was disappointed when I heard that the TASers had (temporarily?) given up on this game, because there wasn't any particularly effective way to manipulate luck. So I'll be interested to see what can be done with it. You should probably read their topic yourself though.

As for the Rock Candy Trick, I would think that it would be allowed, but I guess in this case there isn't a clear distinction between legitimate strategy and cheating. But you can't pick up your first rock candy until pretty far into the game anyway.
Touches Things
Yeah, but think about how much time I can save. I will have level 99 stats and HP/PP on whatever level I will be when I get there. It will probly take me a while to find the ins and outs of the game. I havent played it in a while. There isnt a time counter is there? Thats going to make it harder.

What exactly is the Rock Candy glitch? I haven't played the game in so long, I don't ever remember an item called Rock Candy. Anyhoo, if it's as powerful as you say, I think Radix just might put it into a seperate category, like the Fire Emblem; Rekka no Ken w/ Mine glitch trick.
Here's what GameFAQs has to say on the rock candy glitch...
Quote:
Infinite use of Rock Candy
You can use the Rock Candy in battles an unlimited amount of times to increase your stats. You have to have it in one of the two very bottom spaces of one of your characters' inventories, and you have to use it with any condiment (preferably something like Sugar Packets or Jars of Delisauce, because they will increase one of your stats by 2 instead of one). This will allow you to get greater boosts in stats when you level up.

Yeah, I said it.
The way I see it, the best bet for this run is to get to the Dusty Dunes Desert as soon as possible, and power level off of the Criminal Caterpillars there, and possibly leaving only one or two party members alive so they get all the experience. After that point, speeding through battles shouldn't be much of a problem. The problem would be getting to that point relatively quickly.

Onett alone will take at least half an hour, since you really need to be at a decent level to beat Frank, Titanic Ant, and the Onett Police Force. You could abuse enemies that call for help (Skate Punk, Black Antoid) to try and speed up the process, and could prepare for Captain Strong by scoring easy wins off of the enemies in Giant Step. After beating Titanic Ant, all of the enemies will run from you, so it should be no problem to attack them in the back, get a "green swirl," and score an instant win.

The only Your Sanctuary locations you need to visit as soon as you get to them would be Giant Step, Lilliput Steps (because revisiting Happy Happy Village is impractical, since you can't teleport there), and Rainy Circle, while Dr. Andonuts repairs the Sky Runner. For the others, it would be wise to do them as late as possible, since the enemies and bosses will be much easier. I recommend being at least Level 8 for Titanic Ant, using Paralysis Alpha to immobilize Mondo Mole, and using Big Bottle Rockets against Shroooom!

Unless you're buying at least ten Skip Sandwiches at a time, they're not worth it, as the time you spend going to the Bakery and buying them could be spent walking to where you need to go. They could be used to avoid battles though, like the Rowdy Mice in Giant Step.

Multi-Bottle Rockets are one-hit KOs against many bosses, including Starman DX, Thunder & Storm, and Carbon Dog. Make sure you buy plenty of them.

If you wind up deciding not to do this run, don't worry about it, since it's probably what I'll be doing after my current project is finished.

Heh.. Sorry Suzaku, I messed up with the name of the item. I told you its been a while. Rare Candy... I THINK that might have been from Pokemon.. lol

EDIT:
I read back to the older posts before Suzaku's. I never said Rare Candy.. =P

No, I will finish this run dont worry. This is basically what I needed to know. If I can get to Dusty Dunes, then it wont be so much of a problem. I was just contemplating on how I should go about getting there, level wise. But, the frank part. You can beat him just by fighting the required battles. Just fight the Starman Jr, the punk that attacks in the arcade, and the punk in front of the door. You can beat both Frankys by then, Level 4. After Franky, you are level 5. Thats if you buy the new bat from the drug store and get the Mr. Baseball Cap.

There is a slight posibility you could fight the ant on a lower level, but for one, you will get attacked alot. With Skips, probly not near as much. I will see what happens. Whatever money I have leftover after buying a Cheap Braclet, I will see how many skips I can afford and how many I need. If you think I might need more advice, please let me know.

I hope it will be soon. I need to figure out how to get through the game as fast as I can. And, I really dont know how I am going to time myself. Then, I have to get a hold of tapes and such and start recording. I heard its bad to rewind the tapes to start over on a record, but I am going to have to.

EDIT:
Still looking for confirmation on the rock candy. If needed, I will test and see exactly how much 1 candy helps me.

EDIT;2:
It was mentioned about TASers topic on this game. I looked for it, cant find it. Can I get a more specific name of the topic?
I thought it was just a surprise party!
This is the topic.

Thanks for the topic. Hopefully it provides enough info!

You know what? I decided that I will do the run, but only after you. I am relatively only good at improving someone elses routes. Hope you do it soon, because people are getting (?)antious(?).

EDIT:
FYI Lucid, you can use the Rock Candy glitch. I wouldnt see why not from what I have read. It saves some time, but it takes time to do it. So, it doesnt cut off a super masively amount of time. Just a good portion.

EDIT;2:
I think I will just do SM. I am going to barrow it from my Brother-In-Law. It shouldnt take me all that long to remember the routes by heart. I am not entirely sure if I can/will beat the time, but I will definately try it. (actually, in all truth. I am very confident I can beat the time).
I did a test run a while back. It took me about 40 minutes to clear Onett, mostly due to being required to level up to the point where i could get my PSI (favorite thing) to take out titanic ant in 3 rounds.
Easily Amused
Definitely looking forward to this - EB was one of my favorite games growing up.
