Online fees? No! I hate having to pay to play a game. Such as the fact that I really really want to play Star Wars: Galaxies and City of Heroes/Villans but online fees make me not want to. Another reason why I don't like X-Box is that reason. Great online, but you have to pay so damn much...

In regards to the above post: We can't say much more about the game/run until he submits it and it gets put up. Although, we could make a topic about RPGs in general in the general chat area...that's something to think about.

I couldn't put this better. It's about gaming, and it's informative.

Anyway, I was kinda hoping everyone (including me) would shut up after Kitsune's post, but oh well. I don't think it's that bad. Have you ever tried to read through a Zelda thread?

Edit for if Kitsune sees this: Well, I'd never rag on anyone for going offtopic at least. Unless it was something that goes above and beyond what normally happens at SDA.

Well, we could just shut up, but that's no fun Tongue

I have, in fact, tried reading through a Zelda thread. I soon learned that it is easier to read the most recent 2 pages lest you lose your sanity forever. I will read back further if there are people insulting a n00b or talking about how good something was (like a new trick or segment). Pain in the ass to read through the 50+, 20+, and 200+ threads.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Fact remains however, that this Thread is about EarthBound, not PSO and the GameCube.

Last time I went off topic, I believe it was in the Paper Mario 2 Thread, I had people jumping down my throat.
Urm, if you read anything from pages 10 or 11 you would realize that PSO was more of a temporary topic (I mentioned I might pick it up). The topic at hand that we were talking about was RPGs in general. Actually, it did start with EarthBound but escalated to FF and then RPGs. I suppose we could stop, I guess, since the main things we were talking about are pretty much over with now (them saying that online in PSO sux, telling me prices on Radiata Stories, etc).

Evil Ninja, I don't know when you updated your sig last so please forgive me, but have you, or when are you planning on, mailing your tapes?

I'm not pressuring, but it's kind of hard for nate to encode them when they're several hundred or thousand miles away.  Grin

I will send the tapes this Friday deutsch joe. I already contacted radix and got my comments on the run. All I have to do is mail it. I was just busy with a lot of things. (was out of town for a while because of 4th of July, then there was my dads birthday. Mine is coming up soon in 12 days) Don't worry though, I will definatly send it tomorrow. If you read my sig earlier, my run is now in 39 segments. It was a mistake on my part earlier that I said it was in 40 segments. I counted one of my "mistake segments" with my overall time by mistake (that's were the extra segment came from). I took it out, and my overall time is really around 5-6 minutes faster than before.
so my times are:
Final Hit: 5 hours 42 minutes
After conversation with Ness's mother and before credits: 5 hours 48 minutes
Till the screen says THE END, including credits:
5 hours 59 minutes
Sorry for the delay
As long as it gets sent in, it's all cool Wink Hopefully, this run will get put up soon after Friday. Go for priority mail, it will get to nate faster Smiley
............... .......
Evil Ninja, that's cool that your time is even a little faster now. I understand how things work against you in what you want to do sometimes - I've been there many time! But...the sooner you mail the tapes to get them into the 'system,' the better. Grin

MissleWaster - I've got a feeling it'll be a little while before it's put up after he sends them. I mailed my DK64 tapes to nate last week and the run hasn't popped up yet. So, it'll take awhile.

If you already have your comments, this might be yours (or yours might be one of the other "pending" ones). Bah, Radix usually has more than one or two runs per update, so your run might be ready to go up but no more are, so there would be some wait time there.

Yep, started watching this yesterday. I'm not very far, but what I've seen looks really good and well-done, which is to say, a little boring to me. :-/ It might pick up later, but I think this is the type of game where the console speedrun would be a better watch. Wink

I didn't keep up with the thread there, so that time blew me away. People in this thread were saying the TAS might not go under 6 hours, and I said it woule be under 5, but... well, it seems this game is even more susceptible to luck manipulation than the average RPG. (Apparently, in the status screen, the RNG gets called every single frame.)

OH. MY. GOD. Damn you speedruns being made/published on days so close together!

Alternate version: Downloading, also downloading DK64 run (bittorrent) and every episode of DBZ  Lips Sealed These torrents are gonna kill me.

EDIT: Enhasa: Yeah, I read a few posts on one thread and they said that without being able to manipulate luck it wouldn't be under 6 hours :/ That was long before they found out all the luck strats, I guess.

If you want to see something entertaining, fast-forward to the Deep Darkness part.  The guy teleports his way through the whole thing in minutes!

Yeah, I saw some of the TAS. I've learned some new tricks from it and I will use them in my next run to improve my time. But now I'm working on a single-segment run on this game. The main problem I'm going to have is playing in one sitting for like 6-7 hours :-/ .
Yeah, I said it.

I once did a score run of the NES game, Gyruss. I maxed out the score at 9,999,990, which took just over six hours of nonstop play. I can say from experience that it isn't as bad as it sounds, as long as you can stay focused.
Like Lucid said, it isn't too hard. Just get really into the game and what you are doing, it wont feel like that long. This happened to me on my first playthrough of Metal Gear Solid 3. I played for 3 straight hours without even realizing it cause I was so into what I was doing. So just try and stay focused on the game, you can do it!

thanks for support. I just want to say that I'm still currently working on this run. I'm still in the planning phase (this run will be harder because of the amount of luck I need, unlike in my segment run when I can just restart if I mess up) I have tried to run this 2 times now (test runs), but failed in each attempt.

How far do you get before messing up? Cause if it's a small mistake you could let it slide. If it's something like a character dieing that wasn't supposed to, just buy healing stuff before that particular part and keep them well healed.
A Pink Floyd fan
On my first attempt, I messed up when you fight the cops so you can leave onett. I did buy extra healing items just for that part, but lost to Cpt. Strong. He kept using his submission hold thing (his strongest attack) over and over again. He hit me with a SMASH, which was about to kill me and put me in rolling damage (I think that's what it is called). I ate a hamburger so I had around 40 Hp or so left. (that's when I ran out of burgers, and I didn't have enough pp to recover because I used it all on the 4 cops before it.) Then he killed ness on the next turn. The second attempt was when I rescued Paula and was in the second sanctuary. I wanted paula alive so she can get a huge level up bonus after defeating mondo mole, but he moved before ness used paralysis and killed paula in one hit. (because she is so weak at that stage of the game). The main problems I am having is when I have Ness alone in the beginning of the game. The problem of buying extra healing items is that I can only buy a certain amount of extra healing items before leaving onett because I need at least $200 for apple kid and $349 for a copper braclet in twoson. I believe that if I can get to the point when I get Jeff to join ness and paula, I shouldn't have any big problems in the rest of the run (except for the kraken fight and magicant). I might just fight some extra monsters if I have problems with money but I'm trying to avoid that.
Are you making sure to get money from the ATM machine? That thing has interest rates like crazy, I wish I would get about a dollar added to a bank accound every time I took a step. That would be the only reason you would ever see me on a treadmill.

Yeah, I'm visiting the atm. But I'm trying to visit stores/hotels or whatever as least as possible. I probably wont get this run done very soon because school is coming up next week. I may try one more time but if I don't get it done, I probably cannot work on this till december.  :-[

Well I'm sure your first run (which hopefully will be posted soon) is good as well. You've improved it alot from what you've said, but now we have something to watch to see how you managed to correct yourself some.
I really can'T wait to see your segment run. I palyed through the game twice since this topic was made just to enjoy more your speed run.

Hope to see it avaible soon !
