The question is: if he did it again, how much time would the next version save? I'd prefer if the answer was <5 mins. You wouldn't mind if it was more. That's where we disagree, no problem.

And now we have the answer... over 30 minutes.

Meh. Close to 6 hours is better, but I'm still not excited. If you tried a couple more times, maybe you'd cut off another half an hour...

I took your advice StrangenessDSS, I tried one more time. I didn't improve my run by a half an hour, but I did improve it by around 22 minutes or so. So I got it in under 6 hours. I don't think I can improve my run by a whole lot anymore, so I'll stick with this run. Besides, I can always improve my run after I send in the tapes.  Cheesy

Here are my times.
Final Hit: 5 hours 47 minutes
After conversation with Ness's mother and before credits: 5 hours 53 minutes
Till the screen says THE END, including credits:
6 hours 4 minutes

still in 40 segments and no rock candy glitch.
I hope this gets accepted.
Wordzorz!!! Wow, each improvement to your run keeps making me want to see it more and more Wink So for this time did you just redo the last segment or the whole game?
(user is banned)
great job, I can't wait to download this run, and maybe I can give my 2 cents to =)
Glitching EB 1 flying man at a time

That's a great time! BTW, what levels were your guys upon finishing? I beat the game last night and dont remember the other 3, but I know they were in the high 50's, but Ness was like 66 i think when i beat Giygas. I didnt think it was possible until last night, so i guess Giygas could be beaten on a lower lvl than that, but my other three were higher than yours though, thats the difference, which im gonna fix since im gonna play through again and try to beat the game on the lowest lvl possible. It's gonna be great to see your run, I'll definately put in my two cents as well to help improve it if possible. I'll also be one of the ppl trying to improve the time maybe, don't know if ill be able to post it, but I'll sure try to beat the time.
welcome to the machine
Hopefully nate secretly moves this to the top of the submission stack. >_>

Here were my stats from my final save point pooisdaman. Some (but not all) have gained a level on the way to giygas though.

Ness: 61
  Hp: 619
  Pp: 481
Paula: 53
  Hp: 213
  Pp: 191
Jeff: 50
  Hp: 246
  Pp: 0
Poo: 48
  Hp: 315
  Pp: 105

I leveled up Ness a little bit more because I wanted him to have more Hp for Magicant (That place is evil  Sad ). I only had like 400 Hp for Ness at the time which made it difficult. I HATE carefree bombs forever now.It took me like 100+ tries to get to the the Ness's Nightmare and beat them. He keeps killing me instantly with his glorious light thing everytime (I'm exaggerating but hey, it's still annoying). I guess it's bad luck  Sad .

I leveled Jeff more because i want his stats to get higher (like his speed for example) so he can move faster in battles.

This run was very hard to do because I really had nothing to compare myself to except my old runs, so hopefully this run will encourage other people to do a run on this game.

Some parts I had big troubles on and didn't think I could get past:
Frank at level 4
That path on the way to Happy Happy villiage (forgot what it is called)
The gold mine
monotoli building (that Clumsy robot)
The Kraken
Scaraba pyramid (most enemies are really hard to avoid)
Magicant
And the cave of the past (one starstorm alpha can do around 400 damage to all characters. Even the PSI "favorite thing" beta that giygas uses can kill everyone except ness unless Paula can get a shield up in time.

If you all have any more questions on some tricks I did or need help, you can ask me.

PS: missilewaster, I improved my whole run by 22 minutes, not a segment. (none of my segments are even 20 minutes long.)

I will eventually try to beat my time again someday, but I think I'm going to try to beat this game in a single segment first. I don't know when though. Maybe when I get a new DVD recorder.

Nice stats at the end,  :o. I'm sure lower is possible, but getting too low in this game could be disastrous. I want to try to be at least that low myself upon getting to the last save point. You must've gotten pretty lucky on evasive tactics in some areas to get the time you did. Some areas are really hard to pull that stunt off. I think how many guys you dodge or kill with smashes will determine the fastest time in this game overall. Yea carefree bombs are the biggest pain in the butt in the game I think. How much did you actually train everyone? Like when you had ness alone, did you train any, or did you when you got Paula any? I found you dont really need to after you get her really because the Mondo Mole turned out to not be so hard on a low lvl as long as you have paralyze :P. Did you train with Jeff in Winters, or just level as you went? I'm sure at times you decided to fight if it was a guy you knew you could beat fast or if there was only one guy instead of a room full. Cant wait to see this, again great time and great job doing this game.
A Pink Floyd fan
pooisdaman, I'll try to explain how I trained my party. I try not to level up in one spot at all. In the beginning of the game, It is kind of important that you verse your enemies that you encounter. For one you need ness at level 14 before you encounter the mondo mole. Plus money is REALLY important in the game. Mainly to buy better defensive items for your party members. since your levels are going to be low, you need good defense. Also not to mention to buy bottle rockets for Jeff. The hard part is defeating the enemies fast though. Try not to run away too much unless you know the battle will take a long time (or as a last resort). The reason being is that when you are very far in a segment and you get encountered by an enemy and try to run away, You may get stuck for several turns trying to run and you will possibly die, and thus you have to start over. I learned this the hard way. I did raised paula's level a little on the way to the mondo mole so her Hp can be higher and learn other PSI spells. She can usually kill things very quickly. For jeff, I just kept him alive for the whole game so he can gain levels. In winters, I did train a little so he has more Hp before the boogie tent fight. I didn't really try leveling poo that much though. The main reason my levels were that high (or low, depends how you look at it) was for more Hp and more money to buy equipment and bottle rockets. If my run gets accepted, then you can watch that for reference. It's kind of hard to explain what else I did (or I just don't remember right know). I hope this helps you in some way. If you are doing a run on this game in the future, I wish you luck.
Glitching EB 1 flying man at a time

Yea thanks, I figured as much for training Paula before Mondo Mole. That's actually what I did a little. I was on 16 at Mondo Mole, so I couldve trained a little less for Ness in the beginning I guess. Yea money is important, I kept that in mind while i was playing, probably why i got my levels too high for some ppl. Multi bottle rockets are worthless at Giygas because I shot one at Pokey and it took 19, I was like wtf. I couldve sworn that those take more from Pokey than they did. Oh well, I know alot of these questions will be answered that I have when the run gets on here anyway.
Glitching EB 1 flying man at a time

Well I'm gonna be gone for a week, but it would be sweet if this game was up when I got back :D. I'll be making my own route for this game during the week, but it will be much easier when this run comes out to plan around it. I don't really know if I'll ever speed run this since I've never done anything like this and really dont know how to record these things... Who knows though, maybe someday. Well, good luck on the run, hope it gets accepted. Everyone have a great 4th!!!
Yay, you can submit now! Unless you are already working on an improvement, in which I will say "Wow, submit the run already!" I really hope you can get this run sent in soon Wink
............... .......
Sweetness!

I'd contact Radix in the #metroid channel on irc.metroid2002.com (I think that's what it is...) and tell him about your run. Then if he thinks it's decent enough, he'll give you nate's address.

Looking forward to seeing it!

I like how everyone is overly cautious now even though 5:47 seems like a pretty good time to me and is almost an hour faster than a previous run that was widely praised. Considering some other runs on this site, I don't think you should have any worries about this being rejected.

Evil Ninja, I like anybody who can take criticism well and try for improvement. I do want to say one thing for future reference though. You say you fight some enemies because it's too dangerous to run away and fail. You're not doing SS, so the best way to handle this is just to try running and reset if it doesn't work. Annoying, but that's what's expected if you're segmenting. Easy for me to say though, because I don't think I'd be caught dead trying to run a game that worked this way. Wink

Also, you saved time by being at lower levels this time, which I'm sure you realized. In general, I find that most people could save time in RPGs by being at lower levels and getting less stuff, but since I remember EB half as well as you do by now, I'll leave any specific suggestions to other people.

Oh, and I'll check this out when it's posted. Smiley

You realize the chance of that is somewhere in the negative territory. I do mean negative and not zero, btw.

Pedantic CS alert: Oh and it's a queue and not a stack. Tongue A stack would be rather unfair I think.

It's always touching to see such optimism. Don't want to alarm you, but to prevent heartache you might want to think in terms of months instead of days. Dunno when it was actually submitted, but that recent ZAMN run was apparently done last Halloween, for example.

Oh, I have something to say for MissileWaster from page 10. First off, I don't really like any of the games you mentioned: KOTOR, Quest 64, or Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.

I'm glad you have a PS2, because if you only had a GC, I'd be forced to recommend a game (ToS, don't think you'd like BK) that I like as opposed to love. Now I'm free to go to town, but instead of making things complicated, I'll just recommend one game: Radiata Stories. I have a really good feeling that you'd like it, so I would really appreciate it if you took me up on this. Tell me what you think.

pretty sure that one's actually because tom sends tapes in batches though...

lol, it's totally wrong for me to say this, but i agree...radiata stories looks so awesome...

i can't wait to play it >.<

edit for below:  i almost want to delete a crap post i had in this thread for hilarious page break effects Wink

Just owning it is half the battle! (The other half is owning a PS2 I suppose.)

Edit for below: Yeah, it's cheapo, because SE prints like a gazillion copies of everything. Good for them.
Is Radiata Stories new? If so I might rent it. I've been needing to save my money for a Wii anyway, so I need to be less money-spending-happy (similar to trigger-happy, but less dangerous).

came out last october.  word was that last week circuit city had it for 8 bucks.  i don't know if that was true though.

otherwise it should be between 20-30 dollars.

Holy crap, 8 bucks? I wonder how much I can get it used at GameStop...(I have the card, 10% off!)

Edit: 24.99 used, and the GameStop I frequently go to says it has 1-3 copies in stock Cheesy
EditDos: I just used the calculator on this computer, 24.35 with tax and with the 10% removed. Sweetzorz. I need to get a job anyway (only ones available to me atm are bag boy jobs Sad ) so I might pick this game up Wink

I took this out of the edit and made a new post so you'd see it.

I don't go by that site much at all, but I know it was featured on CAG (cheapass gamer) for being a good deal (at ~$20 somewhere... actually here it is). Ok, I found a thread about the Circuit City sale and there are lots of games, some a lot of which are good.
Sweet, now I just need to find a Circuit City near where I live (my mom says that there is one). I have also been looking into Phantasy Star Online Ep. I + II for GCN along with the Broadband online connecter for GCN. I don't have any clue how much the game costs or if the connecter can be gotten outside of the Nintendo website, but it says online that the game is cool offline too.
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.

I wouldn't reccomend getting the broadband adapter for the GCN.  I can't imagine that the game is that popular nowadays, which would remove msot of the online appeal.  That and the game has a monthly subscription rate, IIRC, which is DEFINITELY a worthy concern if you're scrounging for used game purchases.  That game itself isn't bad, though I may call it an acquired taste.

aside:  I LIVE!
You don't have to pay to play PSO online from what I hear.  There's a server of somewhat questionable legality that will let you play for free.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Since when did this Topic become about the GameCube and Phantasy Star online rather than EarthBound?

Take that crap to it's own Topic.

I am looking forward to seeing the EarthBound run.  Getting rather bored with the current runs I have downloaded.

Besides.  This game is one of my all time favorite Role Playing Games.
