There's a group of us that do retro races (not just ducktales) starting around midnight Eastern Time (think that might be 6 am your time?) on Friday night into Saturday and Saturday night into Sunday. So if I'm right.. 6am Saturday and Sunday for you.
that difficult to hit her in the middle pattern, you just have to learn where to stand, since the hit box is thin. The key to hit her is doing it while DESCENDING -> so, you must jump in front of her and calculate the distance to hit her immediately when you start descending (i also suggest not to press the d-pad when you've found the correct position -> moving only in vertical).
well after reading your post i went back to practicing on magicka, heres the strange thing. i still have timing issues for her middle pattern but it seems her top pattern is easier to actually time the hit for me which idk how that even works. i did it on accident and after that was pretty consistent on hitting her in her top pattern now my problem is the game is self aware and knows this and has been feeding me middle patterns all day now just my luck. fingers crossed i get a good pattern later on and im still trying to get this middle pattern thing down
its pretty strange as you hit under her sprite but i was just messing around during practice and hit her. basically youre at your top most part of your jump and she is on her bottom most part of her flying pattern and it just hits nothing at all but she still flashes. im guessing her hitbox far extends past her sprite because youre a good half inch under her when it hits. believe me i was as surprised as you but it is very possible. finally got my duckula strat for double hitting as well so im stoked until i see magicka flying her middle pattern lol
It is possible to hit her in the top pattern, just look at the TAS. I've made it several times, but to be honest i don't think you could make a good time with the top pattern.
The strategy is to hit her while descending exactly in the center of her body if i remember correctly..anyway, the TAS run would clarify it. And moreover...it is more difficult to hit her top than middle..
i understand that the top pattern is less optimal for speed purposes but for some odd reason i am able to time that jump perfect and always take damage on the middle pattern, i dont get it either. until i get it ill hit her anyway i can because she just murders runs by flying back and forth deciding to land well after ive already reset lol. im not saying top pattern is the way to go but when she does go top during a good run im going for that hit to try and salvage it. i hate magicka so so much she ruins more runs then me jumping to my death when i stick to the rope during the heli skip so guess its back to studying her patterns until it finally clicks. believe me i am gratefully appreciative of pointers but when it comes to this game ive learned its just best to reset and hope for the best when its time to kill her. aside for my hatred for magicka finally got under 8 mins woohoo so practice has definitely improved my boss times

well garadas i went back to practicing the middle pattern and finally nailed it. i was going about it all wrong and my killer was not knowing exactly where i should be trying to hit her at. after watching dxtr's killer run i just practiced that one boss fight until i found the sweet spot and for the tips you shared i thank you. with that being said i have shaved my pb down to a 7:43 and i completely brain farted a few times but the big time saver is definitely magicka for me. i still have much more time to save and much more boss practice.
theres a top row hit in there just for good measure because magicka was being bird bitch this run lol
Duck Tales 2 has more margin IMO. But that Mu Island boss.....
Yep, agreeing on that one. You can shave off like another 5-6 seconds of my time. WR is totally free in this game. I am planning to get back on grinding later this year Would be nice to see more DuckTales 2 runners. Good game except of, yeah, Mu boss
btw Garadas there is also a leaderboard for DT2 on speedrun.com but I am using RTA timing for it (start with difficulty selection and end at last hit on the last boss)...if you are interested feel free to check it and submit your runs
So I believe this is the place to post for help with this game. If not, please point me to the proper thread. I have The Disney Afternoon Collection on my PS4, and have just started trying to learn Ducktales. I've watched several of the "GDQ" runs of this, and a few off of YouTube. I was curious if someone could help me understand a few of the mechanics of the game better. 1: The Moon Skip- I've managed to consistently spawn the duck to hit me, but it only damage boosts me some of the time, often when I stand in the exact same spot. Is there a level of randomness to this? 2: The Helicopter Skip. If there is a specific way to set it up, or the bee substitute, then I would love a bit more detailed explanation of this. It still confuses me. 3: The mechanics of pogoing without getting damaged. I get that going completely down is supposed to be phase through bosses at certain times, but I don't have a complete handle on it. Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated, if The is a video of this already online please point me to it, or any help at all. Thanks in advance for at least reading through this rambling post!
