Ah, gotcha.  Yeah, I don't have a capture card and I won't have one in the near future.  I think there are a few important parts to speedrunning DCC:

1. You have to get the boost at the beginning in USA and Europe levels.  You just hold down right trigger (or left, doesn't matter) and right before it says GO right at the beginning hit right on the stick.  You'll start out running full speed instead of speeding up.
2. Falling is slow.  People always seem to think that the key to everything is to slidejump constantly and while you do pretty much want to slide jump constantly there is more to it than that.  If you slide jump off of a ledge instead of sliding down it you're just wasting time.  Sliding is so much faster than falling.  The paths I take on the USA levels (and Japan too honestly) are very intentional and are pretty much the exact same everytime.
3. USA is all about precision.  Japan is all about execution and Europe's a mix of the two and it took a long time and a lot of back and forth between people to get current records.  I'd be surprised if anyone beats or and neither of those are records.

There's more to say but those are the important things I think.
O Captain! My Captain!
Do you have any idea how to reliably go through, or stop yourself from going through, the metal chains in some parts of the game? Because I've only found it on USA 3, but I seem to go through the first one like, 1 in 30 runs, and I have to always restart.
There are a couple specific spots on chains that you can hit where you'll just go straight through them but it's almost impossible to do it consistently.  Honestly if you're looking for a glitchy way to go fast the biggest thing is hammers.  If you land a jump right on the edge of where a hammer hits downward right as it's hitting downward sometimes you'll just fly like two or three screens ahead instead of getting crushed.  However that also is almost impossible to do consistently.
O Captain! My Captain!
Yeah, I wouldn't think so. I've seen it push me forward... slightly. But never very far.

Thanks for those tips though, they'll help us out a ton.
If you guys ever post any videos I can try and tell you if I think you're doing anything wrong.  I don't know every shortcut but I know most of them.
O Captain! My Captain!
I recently got my capture card back, so I should have up a 52.2x video of USA3 soon.
Here's my USA 3 video

I think I still have the record at 48.8 (that video is 49.1).  Pretty much I just did the same thing as that video but I went over the rope toward the beginning of the video.
O Captain! My Captain!
Its funny, at the first metal chain, I consitently get a better time than you got in that video. However, at the first bright red hammer (21 seconds in this video) I'm usually on 22, and then at the checkpoint before the upward shooting paintball launchers, you're again, a second ahead of me, but then you come out 3 second ahead of me at the end... ehh, its a bit annoying.
Yeah, without seeing the video it's hard to know.  I do know that slide speed down hills depends on where on the hill you start sliding so it may be related to that.

O Captain! My Captain!

There we go
Ok, the biggest thing I see is that you run way too much.  Running is really slow in this game.  You want to be jumping or sliding as much as possible.  I put our videos side by side and I immediately get ahead because I slide jump as soon as the level starts whereas you're running for a while then you slide jump.  You can cut out running at the beginning, 0:24, 0:37, 0:39, 0:56, and 0:58.  The other things I see are you poutrobably should've jumped out of your slide at 0:42 so that you could've slid down the next, steep slope and you really need to slide down the ramps at 0:56 and 0:58.  That's all I can see right now.
O Captain! My Captain!
Yeah, I know what you mean about the whole running thing. Contrary to what that video shows, I don't usually run quite so much. It was just the closest to my 52.220 that I could be bothered getting, so I uploaded that one. Usually I do slide a bit more on the bit with the sideways paintballs, dunno why I didn't on this one. I would slide asap at the start, but I haven't managed to do the running straight off thing, so I don't have speed.

Yeah, I don't mean it as arrogance or anything but you'd probably get a better time if you started out copying my video and then made changes as you see fit.  I run pretty consistent 49s and a very few 48s.

I do think the way you do the beginning should be faster if done totally right though.  I'll have to try it out sometime.
O Captain! My Captain!
The biggest problem with that start bit is that bloody wall. You can sometimes get it so that you slide immediately and jump up to the wall, but 9 times out of 10, you'll wallbounce and get bumped the opposite way. Hence why I go up and crouch at the foot of the wall.

And I don't see it as arrogance, your route is clearly superior, and you're definitely the superior runner.

Btw, I'm so confused as to the start of my video. It like, warps to a death scene. Haha.
I used to have trouble with that all the time and I don't anymore.  I'll try and remember why I don't have that issue, I think you just have to make sure to slide all the way to the wall?  The problem with a game like this is so much of it becomes muscle memory that you don't really have good reasons for things you do sometimes.

Taking a break from marathon practice.

I have not practiced this game for speed before. So please remember this was taken after about 28 min of recording. I just wanna get some feedback and see where I can improve (Tec wise, proper route can come later).

All feedback is welcome. This is a vid of USA 1. Just trying to learn mechanics so I can apply them where and how I feel they need to be.
The main things I would say are:

1. You need to get the boost at the beginning of the level.  The speed boost lets you slide jump immediately which just gives a big advantage.
2. You do a lot of falling.  It's hard to describe.  Obviously you aren't falling into the water but basically you're jumping and the the ground is sloping down so instead of landing and slide jumping again you're just falling.  Falling is really slow.  You want to slide jump and slide as much as possible while running and falling as little as possible.
O Captain! My Captain!

So, I'VE BEATEN BIGPANDA Cheesy

I consider that an achievement. Now to hunt down Motiak...

Congrats on getting 1/15 done...  The main question is though is that... Did you record?

Edit: o wait, never mind, saw the post above about motiak's earlier run...  sorry about that, good to know though that you are making good and steady process...

FYI, don't settle just because you came up with a fast time. Keep going till you feel your at your max. I will be challenging every time you get. If I feel like I can beat it, I will. Friendly competition = better IL Table
O Captain! My Captain!
Yeah, I am definitely gonna be trying for a faster time.

I'm not gonna settle until I can get a time thats at least similar to Motiaks.

O Captain! My Captain!

This video is a HOOOOLY SHIITTT RUN.

EDIT: FML. Big Panda's run of Europe 1 is faster by .03s!
If I get any free time from work I'll try and video tape how to do the beginning of Europe 1.  Bigpanda's way is pretty slow.

O Captain! My Captain!
Thats the way I've been doing Europe 1 for quite a while.

Just to be clear, the speeds from fastest to slowest is: Slide Jumping Ascending > Running > Falling/Descending

This excludes sliding down a slope.
