Hey Manocheese, would you mind if i used some of your videos or tricks for the new dk speedruns site I am making? just to use them for tutorials and demonstration purposes and give you the credit.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.

0% / 0 Banana finally possible! At least theoretically...doing this without savestates is going to be really, really hard.

Awesome find. I tried that method for a while, but the timing is really tough. I kept hitting the ceiling with my skid jump, which caused me to start losing height too soon. I attempted to get around this problem by positioning myself so that my skid jump took me under the stairs (or the small rail next to the stairs) so that I wouldn't hit the ceiling so quickly. I had trouble doing the jump and aerial attack into the loading zone afterward, though. Eventually, I decided to focus more on Helm lobby early with DK to try to solve 0 GB/0% that way. I still think that that might be possible, but I'll probably try to do 0 GB/0% with your method first.

Sure, you can do that.
There's a weird glitch in Gloomy Galleon that I came across a few times while going to the mechanical fish. After a bit of testing, I found out that it happens because the game loads different parts of the map seperately.
Make sure that the water level is raised and enter the level. Now go to warp pad 1 without triggering the game to load the huge area with the sunken ships. Do this by facing the lighthouse area and zooming the camera in. Jumping and pressing the joystick to the left might help to prevent the camera from screwing up. When the tunnels are completely out of sight, go on normally and use warp 1 and then 5. If done correctly, the warp will take you underneath the piece of wood on which the warp pad is located. Now you can swim through every wall and every object until you jump out of the water or enter a loading zone. Bananas are still collectible though.

Since I only found this on the PAL version, I'm not sure if such strange loading glitches exist in every version of the game. So if no one else manages to do this trick, I'll think of posting a video.

I accidentally did that glitch on my first 101 playthrough, posted it here, but nobody was able to figure out how it actually worked. Nice to know I wasn't crazy. You are a wizard for discovering how this stuff works.
I think a video would be nice either way, would be interesting to see if this has any application in 101.

It took me a while to record it because my capture device caused some lag, but now I finally got a video. As you'll see it's also possible to just go directly to the lighthouse and do the warp glitch there, which is easier than using warp pad 1.

Thanks. The idea of a loading glitch came to my mind when I realized that the game puts me under the warp pad as if the water level was low, which is the default level. So I would say no wizardry was involved Tongue
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice find. Here's a new video:

I finally found a way to get from the starting area of Factory to the top level of the Production Room. It requires Pony Tail Twirl, though, so you can't use it when you first enter Factory. I think it could still be useful, though.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Yes!!! I got into Aztec with DK. I'll wrap up my 0 GB, 0% playthrough tomorrow.
What are the version differences for DK64? I couldn't find them on the wiki and I know that there are some substantial differences for NTSC, PAL, JP, EMU, etc.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I think STVW doesn't work in PAL. In JAP, you apparently can't press B to skip textboxes. That's the extent of my knowledge.
ok, thanks. I've been trying to make a version differences page on dksr. guess ill just put this on it for now.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I finished my 0 GB, 0% playthrough. I ended up using a different method to get into the Aztec lobby early with DK:

That's crazy man lol. how hard is that to do? would it be worth it in an any% run?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
It's not as hard as the skid jump method, but it's still pretty hard. It would be the hardest trick in the any% route if it were used. Even with practice, it's probably still quite a bit harder than Diddy's method.
wonder how much time it would save though. how do you buy diddy's moves?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Diddy's moves could be bought in Frantic Factory.

It is definitely not worth it for any% unless the route is completely retooled to skip Tiny and Diddy and free them in Castle. Using very, very, very rough approximations I think that route would be somewhere on the order of a minute slower though.

Pros of new route: Skip Japes, Use warps asap, turn in key with first k. lumsy visit, skip freeing Tiny, skip Crystal Caves
Cons of new route: Needs an extra Rainbow Coin (though all 4 are directly on the path unlike the one in Japes), have to fight King Kut Out, have to buy moves in Castle, have to do Forest early, have to get to/beat Dogadon 2

Without this major route alteration (ie freeing Diddy in Japes anyways), this isn't going to save anything more than seconds at most. You still need to go to Caves and you will still need to visit Cranky in either Caves or Aztec as before to buy Chimpy Charge to free Tiny. Buying Charge in Aztec instead of Caves saves somewhere around 3 seconds, because you have to make trips both to and from Cranky.
how'd you unlock diddy though? In castle?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I forgot about the need for Chimpy Charge in Aztec. In that case, this trick wouldn't save much time. And the route involving going to Castle is definitely slower.

Yeah.
I KNEW IT WAS POSSIBLE. As soon as the trick was found I was convinced it was possible with a ceiling kick if you could get lower than the initial height. Or I was hoping after the height gain but RR said it wasn't possible to I stopped trying. Anyway great find manocheese you are a beast!! Smiley
If done correctly...
Speaking of 0%, 0 Golden Banana, I've been able to get a boulder inside the Blast-o-matic, but I couldn't get high enough to get on top of K. Rool's ship's arms or enter Hideout Helm. Maybe if we could get two boulders up there, it could be possible, but I'm not sure if that's possible to do or not. Sad
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
How did you get a boulder in there?
If done correctly...
I used dry storage for the boulder to load properly, and I entered the Blast-o-matic at a specific angle so Chunky wouldn't slip when he got inside it. I'll try to make a video of it tomorrow.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice. I look forward to the video. After what happened at 4:55 in this video, I thought that if you had a rock stored and you grabbed a ledge, the rock would appear and prevent you from pulling yourself up. But I tested it on other ledges and something different happened: I pulled myself up, then the rock appeared. That's what we want in the case of the Blast-o-Matic. Maybe the edge that's used to pull Chunky into the Blast-o-Matic is just weird.
Micromanager extraordinaire
This is very exciting news. Congrats to those who've figured out the Japes skip!
