Anybody remember this N64 game? I remember playing it when it first came out and developing an addiction, so I thought why not do a speedrun? I was thinking a single-segment Adventure mode run. It's been a long time since I plugged this game in, but I think I can still handle it. What do you guys think?
Thread title:
Never give up!
I know I'd be interested in watching this for sure.

I'm curious about two things, though:

-Who are you going to use?  (I've always had it drilled into my head that Pipsy and Tiptup are the best characters, but I remained unconvinced, and after my newbie days with the game, where I used Krunch, I played as Bumper, and I can definitely suggest the latter.  Just a little aside, I assure you.)

-You don't suppose it's possible to beat this in under an hour and a half, do you?  (I hate to project times like this, but I know that some of those races took forever for me to beat.  I'll still watch if it winds up longer, though.)
Yes, a bunny riding a towel
I vote go for it!
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Yes, this game rocked.

Here's an older topic on the game: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1120333830;start=

Can't blame you for not finding it, as you have to bump up the maximum age on the search function. I just got it because I remember the topic from before.

Jack of all Trades
About a year ago I did a run of adventure mode as a lark, took ~ 2:15 (I think) from start to beating the second Wizpig in the secret space world. I was going to do it again and try to lower my time but then I looked at time attacks of the races and realized I am bad!
yeah, do one for mirror aswell? because mirror one is slightly harder, not just because the courses are switched, the racers are better.
Not only that, but the silver coins in the Silver Coin Challenge are hidden in different places and are harder to find than in Adventure. I may do an Adventure Two run after I finish with this run.

As for which character I'm going to use, if hidden characters are allowed, I'm definitely using T.T., but if hidden characters are not allowed, I'll probably use Conker since that's who I used when I first beat Wizpig.

As for the sub-1:30 thing, I don't know if it's possible or not, but it may very well be considering some of the world records I saw at http://www.geocities.com/dkrhighscores/Records.html.
I say run it. This is a damn awesome game.

I always thought Pipsy and Tiptup were best, too. They are definitely the fastest, but they also get knocked around easiest. Like Toad on Mario Kart 64, I guess. Either way, I guess it matters little if you can remain in control easily, or use the knockage to your advantage.
Pipsy and Tiptup are the fastes acceleration wise, but not top speed wise, and they are quite annoying to have to control using the hover-craft (but you get used to it).  I used to excell at this game, but stopped playing it, and haven't picked it up since about 6 years ago!  Shocked

Hah, same here. I have gone through at least 2 TV sets since I last played DKR. :-/

Either way, I am pretty sure Accelerration overrules Top Speed. There aren't too many long straights where it's possible to get to the Top Speed anyway, and even then there are the Blue Balloons.

I didn't mind the Hovercraft with Pipsy, myself. After I got used to it. Roll Eyes

As usual, unlockables that make the game easier are not allowed before a normal run. So no starting with T.T. or Drumstick.
Alrighty then, Conker it is!

Sorry for bumping this old topic, but I thought I'd let you all know that I'm going to start this run soon. I've been busy with my other runs (SSB, SMB Lost Levels, Forsaken, etc.) as well as outside stuff like schholwork and such. But I'm free this weekend so I'll start my run ASAP.
OK, I think I have this run figured out, but I want to see if anybody knows a faster way. Here's my plan:

1. Grab the 4 balloons in the overworld, starting with the one near the Wizpig head and moving counterclockwise from there, ending with the one in front of Dino Domain.

2. Enter Dino Domain

3. Complete all tasks in Dino Domain (Trophy Race, beat the boss twice, beat the T.T. challenge, etc.), snagging the key on Ancient Lake and winning the race in the same run.

4. Beat Taj's car challenge.

5. Enter Snowflake Mountain

6. Complete all tasks in Snowflake Mountain, coming back for the key on Snowball Valley.

7. Beat Taj's hovercraft challenge

8. Enter Sherbet Island

9. Complete all tasks in Sherbet Island, coming back for the key on Crescent Island

10. Beat Taj's plane challenge

11. Enter Dragon Forest

12. Complete all tasks in Dragon Forest, snagging the key on Boulder Canyon and winning the race in the same run.

13. Beat Wizpig the first time

14. Sit through the credits (you can't skip them unfortunately)

15. Enter Future Fun Land

16. Beat all the races and Silver Coin Challenges in Future Fun Land (you don't need to beat the Trophy Race in order to beat the game)

17. Beat Wizpig the second time

18. Enjoy the ending.

How about it?

hi
i'd recommend pipsy...but I guess you're already using conker so ok

also if you're thinking you can get boulder canyon's key and win in the same race, snowball valley shouldn't be hard.

crescent island is though. but maybe on the third lap if you get really far ahead?

you should get the balloons in the overworld (minus the first one) after you beat taj's plane race, because youre already in the plane. plus you need it to enter one of the worlds anyway iirc

also good luck with that octopus damn that thing took me forever to beat
Take This! Ultra Frisbee-Disk Attack!
I was thinking about doing a 100% SS run on the first adventure when I finish with my Sunset Riders run. I am really good at DKR and it's one of my favorite games to play. Even not playing it for a while, I still play the game very well.

Well, he just gave some tips.  I really don't think he'd expect us to ever trust him making a run now.

I wouldn't use Pipsy or Conker ever. I go with the character that I use every single time and have gotten very familiar with ever since the first time I played the game, Tiptup. This is b/c I'm not comfortable enough to race with any other character b/c I don't have the experience racing with them, using Tiptup every single time I play the game. Looks like its a contest, MetalSmasher. When I finish the first adventure run, I am debating as to whether or not I will make a run of the second adventure given that it has a higher difficulty than the first adventure, which people would definitely look forward to, right? I'll get crackin' on the first DKR run hopefully sooner than later as I am to finish the Sunset Riders run, which is currently my top speedrun priority.
