Is anyone interested in an improved Diablo run Huh? (by improved I mean sub 25:00) I have a run up that is 34:54 (which unlike the run that is up on SDA contains loading and demo sequence times) but I just know that I can do it under 25 minutes (I'm currently half way through hell and 7 minutes faster then my sub 35 time). Main thoughts:

- fight monsters only when I can't run from them
- pick up and sell rares instead of picking up tons of gold
- eq dosen't matter at all! You could defeat diablo on a naked lv 14 character with ease (I only pick up items that actually don't slow me down, are quite usefull, and are worth almost nothing at the shop)
- never underestimate the real power of telekinesis Wink
- and I developed a imo perfect strategy for Lazarus. Walk to the upper-left corner of the room. When he is 1s from finnishing his speach cast stone curse on those two succubus bosses, kill Lazarus and teleport to the red portal. That way I skip unnecessary fighting and walking all the way around which saves me about 3 minutes

Here is my old 34:54 run that dosen't contain any of the tricks mentioned above done in 17 segments (yes I know, the improved run will be done in 10) in medium quality:

part1
part2
part3
part4
part5
* Somehow I can't upload anything larger then 50mb to filefront...strange

If anyone has a suggestion, question or has something to discuss post! Now! Smiley
Thread title:
I would definately watch a run like this.

Here's a list of file hosts (nobody likes filefront):

And good luck on your improvement!  I'm watching the 35min one now...
VERY interested in this. Please demolish this game.

i watched the videos and it already looks very promising.

do you aware that adria's stock changes every time you load game (besides when exiting dungeon)? it might help you if you save right before her when you purchase a book of fireball (although i don't know how random it is).
i can't say more than that since my diablo knowledge is very limited, but good luck Smiley

Somebody said random  Huh? RANDOM !?! For gods sake, a one minute segment was replayed atleast 300 times to get a fireball book and a teleport scroll...took me 2 days to get this combination. Shops are the only thing that I can't manipulate during the run which kind of pisses me off. And when I would load a in-town-saved-game it would erase my teleport to the dungeon as far as I know  Tongue

I've finished my second run which is around 28 minutes btw. I'll be uploading it when I'm done with the encoding.

My next goal is sub 25 minutes (of course ...)
Nice gj.
I will watch it for sure

HQ vids: (Sorry for multiple files. Now I know that my ISP has an uploading limit for files up to 100mb max  :-/)

part1
part2
part3

Total time is 28:47 (15 segments)  Wink

Any suggestions?

oops. forget about it then. it must be a real pain to do that segment. selling stuff and walking entire village over and over Tongue

Yes it was, is and will be a pain  Lips Sealed
Speed is the key.
I'd so watch this.

The 28 minute run is imo great too (post number 7 in case you missed it  :P). Watch it while you wait for my sub 25 and tell me if it's good or not please  Tongue
I have very little experience in Diablo. Yet i like to watch every speedrun of any game i have ever come in touch with.

I just have one question. Why did you toggle the cow to say "muhhh"  Grin at the beginning?

Doesn't this cost at least some msecs?

Just curious. Not really a relevant  question.  Grin

Better than Whining around in SpiderWaffle's Thread.  Cheesy

I just love teh m0000h  Grin No seriously, after redoing a certain segment for the 100th time that IS a way to relax  Smiley And yes, my run would be 1s faster if not for the cow.............damn you cow....................

And suga, thank you so much! Loading the game in the village won't remove my teleport! It'll be a lot easier for me to do those segments that require insane luck  Smiley

That sendspace thing gives me much worse service than filefront. Smiley

Just watched the 34 minutes one, quite impressive. Some dodgy fighting though. Any chance of manipulating any more hit recovery items for vs. Diablo? Looks like he smacked you around a lot there and stopped you casting.

This is so much faster than the run that's up. Might watch that one again to see why!

Edit: (Slowly) Downloading and watching the 28 mins run. Great cape to start with, nice timing on the level ups! Lol at the Telekinesis on the tavern sign. Firebolting Burning Dead... tsk tsk! Lol, that Gargoyle missile-bugged you!

Groobo, I'm so glad you decided to submit a Diablo classic run; considering your current progress, we are in desperate need for a replacement (no offense, Marshy).  Keep us posted.  Wink

Watched your 28min run.

The first two parts were simply great, but you seem to slack a little in Diablo's lair. Healing for eample. Also, isn't Diablo's lair already open after you flip the first two switches?

There's a trick to avoiding hit recovery - get your health low, then any hit that would normally kill you won't cause hit recovery.  I haven't played 1.09, so I don't know if that bug is still around.

These runs are really impressive, but there still seems like a lot of improvements you could make.

First of all, you don't need to hit those two levers on the upper right side to release Diablo.  So that seems like two minutes of wasted time.

Why didn't you pick up the teleport book from Adria?  I costs some mana, but you had plenty;  it would have saved a bit of time overall.

You made at least one more trip to the surface than you had to - I would think that you would wait until you are out of mana before making the trip.  Obviously this would mean less opportunity for books from Adria, but in that last run the last two trips could have been one, and you didn't pick up anything special on those last two trips.  So I think that could save about another minute.

Some minor quibbles:

why did you toss aside your staff with charges still on it?  Right after that you were a little conservative with firebolt against some familiars, it would have been faster to just spam the remaining charges from the staff.

Right after that you skip a bookcase, that seemed odd.

It looks like you are ignoring the shrines, but with TK there's no harm in giving them a look.  Enchanted shrines would be great, but there are a few other helpful ones as well.

When you don't have mana shield, you don't really need to worry about you mana ball getting low - it seemed like you were chugging potions before you had to.  There was one occasion where you drank a potion just before you levelled, and once where you drank it just after;  since the levels come so frequently, it helps to take the fullest advantage of the mana restores.

Also, why do you use the mouse to drink potions instead of the hotkeys?

The harlequin crest just gave you 1000 gold you didn't really need, so even though it only took you about 30 seconds, it didn't seem to be worth it.

You were using firebolt against the gargoyles because of there resistance, but I'm not sure that lightning isn't still better when you can line up more than one of them in a row.  Just a thought.

Anyway, it looks like just eliminating those two levers and one town portal would save you the three minutes you need, so you can definitely get under 25 minutes!

Wow, thanks for some constructive criticism  Wink

Like I said, I don't care about eq at all! The cape is in my inventory only because it was looted from an enemy I would kill anyway AND is worth 200gp at the shop.

I could actually get some great hit recovery items for Diablo's Lair but it would cost be precious time (the final time would be atleast 2m slower, and I would kill Diablo maybe 5s faster)

Now when I'm at the end of my 3rd run (fast eh?  8)), I see that you only have to flip 2 of the levers but thanks anyway Smiley

I always get a little paranoid in hell... Wink

I don't buy a book of teleport because it costs 20k! I have my gp planned well imo.

In my 3rd run, I have to go to the village only 2 times overall (when I enter hell to get f-ball book and some usefull scrolls + when I get Lazaru's Staff or something like that bring it to Cain to open the red portal for me)

I actually always drop my staff when the charges get under 15.

The bookcase contained some crappy spell, firebolt or so? The loot is always the same.

Yes, shrines are great. There was a +2 to magic nearby. But again it would cost me precious time, and 100 magic or 102 magic? Do you get my point?

I have a better mana control in the current run that I'm doing.

I have my fingers on the F5-F8 hotkeys not 1-8, and using belt items with my mouse dosen't slow me down at all. Also after redoing a certain segment god knows how many times, I;m getting paranoid about dieing...again (it is harder than it looks)

I have to get the harlequin crest so that I can continue to level5. I have better money control in my third run.

There are 3 types of gargoyles. 2 are fire resistant and lightning sensible, and one is the opposite. With my bad luck I've get to fight the third gargoyle type.

Yes and actually running from monsters that semi-block my way instead of killing them.

Thanks again  Grin

edit: Which free file hosting site do you recommend? (I felt like having faster downloads from sendspace, that's why I've chosen it) I can host on multiple sites if you want...

I've won against Diablo and said to myself "hrhr at last it's all over!", started with appending the segments and encoding. I've made a cup of tee, sat in front of the monitor waiting untill the progress bar hits 100%. That moment came surprisingly fast and when I opened the final avi, I was like..... ZOMGF WFT!@@!@!!!!!1133 NOWAI  Shocked  And btw the final time is 21:35 in case someone wonders why I'm so excited. Anyone wants the avi  Grin ?
100% runs=great to watch
Hooray!  That's a spicy time indeed!

Indeed.
Insane time.

If you're going to submit to SDA, be sure to go through the knowledge base to get your videos up to SDA standard quality.

If you're using Virtualdub's append feature... don't. It'll most likely desync the audio.
boss
I'm reading the kb right now because the sound actually de-synchronized.  Tongue I'll upload the vid in a moment because I think I can get the time under 20 minutes. After watching the video you could throw some suggestions at me.
I Was about to dl the 28 but ...pff... I will wait Smiley
