I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I don't need to read the commentary one more time. It would require level up to read more books if you need to read them all as soon as you get them, but you don't.

It took you about 12 seconds to kill laz and about 26 to kill diablo. Each extra slvl of fireball would increase damage by about 12.5% so duping the book twice would save about 10 seconds, minus the time to dupe. It might also save time against a few other monsters you kill and maybe the reduced mana cost would be useful too but I doubt it.

Also another idea, if you can get book/staff/scroll of holy bolt/lightning you could draw just diablo out saving some time. I don't think this is practical due to the trouble of find such an item, although I think you could buy scroll of lightning pretty easily.

Also you still haven't really explained how you did the dungeon level manipulation. This is my best guess at what you did, is it accurate?

Create new characters until you get level that you like. For deeper dungeon levels same thing but use an external program to load original character data into the new characters game.

Edit: 1 more idea. Instead of buying a bunch of scroll of teleport from adria, would it be faster to buy 1 and dupe it?

Edit 2: About drawing just diablo out, you could use your staff of charged bolt, but the bolts don't go very fast.

Almost correct. I didn't use any software to import my character data, although it would save me some hours of work.

The problem is that it won't damage only diablo. Notice that only one monster comes after me before diablo and the big guy him self comes from above. I assume that the first three fbs were accurate enough to draw diablo out. I've found out that you actually can manipulate monster movements, something like a RNG. I'll try to manipulate him to get closer to me sooner next time.

One duping cycle (picking up, throwing away and positioning) takes about 1.5s while buing TWO tp scrolls takes about 2s. And you have to count the seconds to buy more mana pots.

It could probably save ~5s considering that I'd have to dupe even more. I'll test some things later.

Only one monster came at you but it took about 5 seconds to kill, it is certainly possible to do it only drawing diablo out with holy bolt. Inside the chamber there is 1 diablo, 1 black knight, and a bunch of advos/blood knights. Only diablo can be hit by holy bolt and only diablo and the black knight can be hit by lightning based attacks.

Naj's Puzzler when found has 23 of its 57 teleport charges. It also has no magic requirement, but might be hard to find (not sure how good of luck manipulation can be done). This would greatly speed up the run. Weaker alternative is Gleamsong with 10/76 phasing charges.

Back to the drawing diablo out method, I think it could be done quickly with charged bolt using some variation of this depending on how the timing works out:

Go flip first switch, when walking back to other switch cast charged bolt towards diablo. Then flip the second switch, the goal is to open the chamber right as the charged bolts get to the wall. This should draw just diablo (possibly lone black knight too) out pretty quickly, but will require luck to pull off.

Anyways I just hope a Naj's Puzzler is likely enough to be manipulatable, that would be pretty cool.
Didn't get to say this last night, but this run was hilariously good. I'll have to look up the item duping trick, but the luck manipulation was something surprisingly familiar. I wasn't aware you were allowed to do this stuff in a segmented run. If you really are serious about going sub 6:30 I wish you all the best. 30 hours spent just to get this product translates to a lot more effort than I'd probably ever give to a personal speedrun. Great job.

The item duping is easy, just drop whatever it is, walk away, click to pick it up, and just when you pick it up, grab a potion from your belt, should turn into the item you tried to pick up.

Can you upload the video again?  I tried to two links for the sub 20 and they didn't work :x

EDIT: or has it been surpassed by the video I found on the main page?
boss
I don't have the sub 20 version anymore and it seems that filefront deleted it too. Sorry.

This run was actually recorded on several save states. Level layouts are generated randomly, which means that you could even get better ones on one save state.

Could you please explain what you mean by this? Both sentences. I saw flagitious guess and what you said about it, but I still don't really understand what you did.
I read your submission text, and it wasn't helpful at all. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, there are save files for the characters.  I wonder if he made copies of the save file and loaded up each one to try to get different maps.

If you start a new game with a character, do you keep the shortcuts in town you found?

No.

Mike agreed that the lazarus's cutscene alt-tab skip is legal. I'll be looking for better map layouts for the next two weeks (I've already improved level9 with about 40 frames and the first town visit with 2 frames). If all of flagitious's and some of my ideas work out, maybe I'll nail a sub 6.

Somehow, reading something I had already read didn't seem to help. I was hoping for further explanation.

i dont get what's so hard to understand about it :p

he replayed the game until he got the best spawn for the exit. then he saved and recorded the run up to that point and then continue from the save. (tbh, i have no idea)

Maps are generated upon character creation.

1. Create a character and save in town.
2. Backup the save file.
3. Play all the way to diablo on that character. (take notes)
4. Repeat...

I get it now, thanks.
I see yet another new version of this run is up for verification.  I'm assuming this includes the alt+tab trick to skip the cutscene and this is where your getting the gained time.

Improvements:
-better map layout for lv9
-better route for the town -> lv1 visit (after creating the character)
-fixed the one-frame mistake on lv1 and like 10 frames on lv2
-faster lv11 (monster manipulation)
-faster lazarus's lair (monster manipulation)
-lazarus cutscene skip
-lazarus's speech skip
-faster fight with lazarus (he didn't teleport his ass this time)
-drawing diablo out with chain lightning
-hiding behind a wall so that diablo comes immidietly after me, instead of running around for a while
-buying the minimum number of mana pots. (15, five for lazarus and ten for diablo)

My fight with diablo is imho entertaining this time. I've finished him off with like the last fb that I could afford and while having like 1hp left.  Wink

Who ever did the 50 minute something completion of this game is probably crying right now, when will Groobo's insanity end? Exactly how much more can you improve from the old run?

This one is 5:54. I don't think that it can get even faster... Doing the shoping part frame-perfect would require one segment per scroll, which would be slower because of the 0.5s save penalty.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It could be much faster if the first monster than can drop a Naj's Puzzler, does drop one (plenty of teleport charges). But I guess this was too hard to manipulate, although I didn't see any mention of it.

Looking forward to seeing the latest version.

You can't manipulate drops.

The game does not drop the same items every time you start a new character, so therefore you can.
