Wow. I just got the game a day ago and I've been playing it pretty dang hardcore since then and... it's interesting. My next speed run is definitely going to be on this game and character mode, and since Vergil is such a DRASTICALLY different character than Dante, there's going to be a lot changing in this game.
First off, Vergil starts with all three weapons and along with it, you can buy several moves for the weapons. HOWEVER, unlike Dante, Vergil is limited by his style level along with the orbs to purchase various moves. So, for example, I can buy Stinger level 1 and Sword Throw for the Force Edge after mission 1, but I can't purchase Helmbreaker level 2 until I have Dark Slayer level 2. This is very limiting to a point, due to the fact that I can't get the level 2 moves until mission 6 unless I can possibly get away with some farming, but it's doubtful since A&R provide TONS of experience that I don't think killing a few more prides would justify.
Secondly, the blue orbs I pick up for the single segment run, they're going to have to change. Vergil's moveset is very limited in comparison to Dante's especially from the get-go. By Default, Vergil has one combo with Yamato and a launcher move, which is just too damn slow to get the blue orb fragment. He also has no airhike, so that makes a few others a touch unattractive. So, combat adjudicators may be out of reach and I'll just might have to go through with just a single health upgrade in the run. Ouch.
On a MAJOR plus, any and all pre-rendered cutscenes are REMOVED from Vergil's game entirely. It's just level after level after level with no loading interruptions at all. You still see the in-game rendered cutscenes like when the Hell Sloths make an apperance in the Love Planet, but other than that, there's nothing. Finish mission 1 with Vergil, there's not even the gunfire graphic to slow you down. Once the screen fades to black, you're delivered straight to the mission select screen. Loading levels is much faster because of it (Due to in Dante, you'll have a five second loading screen, watch two seconds into a cutscene, skip it, wait another few seconds, and then FINALLY get to the action).
And while we're on the topic of much faster, there's going to be another way to categorize runs with the addition of the "Turbo" option which speeds up gameplay 20%, but the timers don't reflect that, they still measure in real time throughout the levels. I may make use of this, may not, but it makes doing more bigger and better combos much more friendlier than having to stick with the "Normal" ones that I play with. I may do Dante and Vergil in this speed mode because of it. I'm afraid of mission 12 though with that on... Oi.
Hell, I'm almost afraid to use Cerberus at 20% faster, WITH the 20% speed bonus from its Devil Trigger. Also, I think it may be worth my while to invest in some
We'll have to see what comes from those two features, but it'll be good...
